Needs updates - Fix map bugs, Balance AI, Controls are weird... maybe this is a feature and here to stay but the UI is clunky and definitely needs a rework. Honestly could also do with more game too
- Log in - Load previous campaign - Find and track Yamato/Musashi - Send 4 gazillion Avengers and Dauntelesses - IT DOESN'T SINK - It's gone for 2 weeks ^^rinse and repeat Serious short note: base game has a lot of potential but it's the mods that add replayability; without them you probably wouldn't enjoy it past the 30-35 hour threshold imo.

too much time wasted unpausing the game every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day because the game informs you that air operations are again available. then you are interrupted again every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time a plane appears near your base/base and you have to enter the battle and watch a long boring ass dogfight unfold... maybe give us an option to autoresolve air battles?
Initially tedious but extremely fun game for naval history and warship enjoyers. Explore mods.
Developers abandoned it, no activity for over a year now...
Just recently got back into playing since the new update. Been having fun with it, even with just the default campaigns, it just feels like a more refined game. It's still a bit clunky, and can test your patience from time to time.... But it's come a long way since it first released. Also, it appears that the devs haven't abandoned it either. Add in the fact that the they are now collaborating with the mod community to fix issues and add new content, there is a bright future for this game. I would definitely say it's worth the price now.
The game is alright for the most part, but it has a number of issues letting it down. I am aware some have been worked on. Aircraft AI has been but that only seems to have made bombers almost OP. Unless you swarm them with fighters they'll win almost any engagement with fighters mainly because of how the fighters are flying which really needs work. Defence against against air attacks on ships are nearly pointless because an incoming wave may have 8 aircraft of insert type you shoot 3 down. hey come back with 8 again, how? In the same day mind, which makes no sense and just makes the constant and endless air attacks feel like a chore and need even a realistic one, or at the very least you know that what's happening makes no sense. I would like to see light cruisers and destroyers be able to do bombardments as well and at the very least the damage be limited to troops and supplies on the bases. The AI's collision avoidance for ships needs either removing outright or a lot of work since it is both over reaction and avoiding collisions are not gonna happen. This messes up formations and makes fleet management really annoying. Something I noticed really quickly is that you may have a encounter with aircraft, your ships are lets say near Savo Island the aircraft are on the map near Tulagi and you have some fighters somewhere around Henderson field, you go to the actual battle itself and the enemy aircraft have magically teleported right near your fleet, that needs addressing. It's so bad I don't allow the AI to use carriers because all that happens. As much as I've pointed out issues encountered it isn't a bad game. It has potential, maybe in the future these issues get addressed more which alone will make this game way better, not to mention any new features, units and mechanics that maybe added later. However, I'll be honest it is very messy.
It's decent fun, but in its current state feels extremely janky with AI controls and the such. Also appears to be entirely abandoned by the dev team.
War on the sea is a very interesting game with a good concept in mind. While I have spent a good number of hours into this game it lacks any kind of replayability altogether as what can you do is very limited. There are people that do make mods for this game to improve and give you that missing aspect of being able to start over and try something new. The game overall is OK, while you can take control of naval vessels and aircraft in this game. it's very micromanagement heavy and the UI doesn't help with that at all. having to switch between every unit one at a time and give them one specific order instead of being able to select multiple to do so, it's really annoying and tedious to have to do that over and over again constantly. Same with aircraft and anti aircraft guns, the aircraft gameplay is really bland and you're very limited to what they can do. It's just point A to point B with a chance that they survive while doing any kind of damage. My one gripe about Anti aircraft fire is the small caliber guns, While I do understand that they can't hit targets far out like some secondary guns, there is variety of multiple caliber guns (20mm, 25mm, 40mm guns etc.) and how effective they are are certain ranges. The only AA we have in game is long range AA and short range AA, there is no in between which I feel is a must because by the time the short range AA start engaging is practically too late to avoid any aircraft coming to bomb your ships and I feel like mid range anti air would make AA more effective if not more entertaining The vehicles models in game, while somewhat decent lack individuality. what I mean by this is how certain weapons are grouped together. on some battleships where they have multiple secondary guns along the side of the hull, if one gun were to get hit and damaged, the remaining secondary guns stop working because they are grouped into a single compartment and it seriously reduces your damage output on that ship. Same with how every ship is a copy and paste of one another, it would be nice is some ships of the same class have some AA guns in one spot while others don't (all while keeping the same number of AA guns in total). I feel it would add more life and unique aspect that each ship is different in a way. As for the engagements, it's very predictable and super easy to cheese especially with how small the combat area is, it's super easy to pinpoint where the enemy is how set up an ambush to blast them in less than five minutes. I feel like it would be better if the engagement areas were much larger with a super rough estimate of where the enemy location is, therefore forcing you to take a risk of being shot at first without ever seeing them. An actual fog of war. I do enjoy this game but it's just lacking a gigantic load of potential to become something really great. There is so much more that can be done in terms of QOL, a complete overhaul of the sound design, Improve on the vehicle models and make damage more visible and consistent, small details that people will enjoy and praise the game on. I do hope this game does improve because this game has an insane amount of potential as there few naval combat games that are like this one in terms of variety and scale.
A little game that is actually quite fun! It doesn't look particularly impressive, but on the flip side, it runs even on PCs over 10 years old at the highest settings. The campaign is enjoyable - at least until you've sunk all of the enemy's capital ships; after that, the AI unfortunately just spams destroyers on suicide missions (along with submarines, though you can at least disable those in the campaign settings, although that makes the AI even less of a threat. You can also enable respawning capital ships, but that's kind of immersion-breaking imo).
