⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Players in the game will be able to play on multiple battlefields of the Maryland Campaign, from the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers where the Siege of Harper's Ferry took place, to the ridgelines of South Mountain, and to the meandering waters of Antietam Creek at the Battle of Antietam.
Additionally, players will also be able to choose from a list of regiments that fought in each battle as well as what rank to fight as, whether they want to slog it out as a lowly private, or if you want to orchestrate the carnage and mayhem as a major general.
Uniforms and bodily features will all be customizable for other players to see as you march and fight in the lines of battle according to the tactics of the period. As a General, you will operate in your headquarters equipped with a map of the battlefield and constantly receiving reports of friendly and enemy positions. Send out new orders to the regiments to move forward, or fall back - all in real time. The orders will move down the chain of command, to the Colonels, Majors, down to the Captains in charge of the individual regiments, all of whom have the option to follow the orders of their trusted commander, or rebel against his wishes and fight as you see fit.
Each map contains a period reconstruction of the buildings, farms, forests, roads, and rocks as they were in 1862 so players can fight through the streets of Harper's Ferry, in the wooded heights of Fox's Gap at South Mountain, or in the cornfields and Bloody Lanes of Antietam. Players can feel the whiz of deadly shot and shell fly by their bodies, or hit their comrades or themselves as they scream in a bloody hail from their wounds. Limbs will fly and blood will be spilt once again as Campfire Games brings the fighting of the Civil War right to the player's computer screen!
Will you heed the Union call against the traitors? Or will you fight to defend your family and livelihood with the Confederacy? You decide!

Cant give an honest review of the game because all the full servers are password protected with no access for casual players. I just want to play a game, not join some clan with requirements on how often i need to play
I am afraid this game's time has come to an end. I have owned this game since 2019. I do still have some rather fond memories of my time in several regiments in 2021 and into 2022. However, that was a long time ago, people and communities change, and the game does not interest me in the ways it did then. After the cavalry update in July of this year (the developers have been promising cavalry since at least 2021), I started to play more often, but the game is just not the same. Development time has been ridiculously slow. War of Rights entered development in 2013. It was on Kickstarter by 2015. It has been in full development for over a decade and it is still in an alpha state. Horses brought renewed interest into the game, but as of September, that interest is pretty much extinct again. The game is dying and extremely prone to bugs, the active community is mostly neckbeard-esque reenactors or reenactor-adjacent people or Redditors who have some sort of political agenda. I was recently banned from the WOR Steam community hub just for questioning someone who claimed the game should add crosshairs to assist 'handicapped' people (which, in 2026 on the internet, could practically mean anything). Well, as it turns out, today they released an update that adds hitmarkers. So, umm...yeah, I guess the developers really are listening to what people on Reddit want, at the expense of everyone else. If you know enough about Reddit or its users, that should tell you enough about this game and the people behind it. For most people, it would mean avoiding investing time and money into a game that is on its last legs and is so desperate to maintain a playerbase that it is now catering to neckbeards from Reddit. Seriously? As a very long-time Early Access game that was originally a Kickstarter game, the developers cashed out on it long ago and do not have a lot of motivation to ever get this game out of alpha. Considering the size of their team, I would have normally expected them to be more empathetic or considering of community needs, but no, they are actually quite closed-off. They read as more like a big developer like Rockstar or Ubisoft than an indie developer, and that is not a good thing. In a lot of ways, CFG actually reminds me a bit of the developers of Beyond The Wire, basically indie devs who think they are much bigger and untouchable than they really are. However, they are not actually untouchable, and the current state of the game can attest to its waning appeal and the feeling that the game has been nearly frozen in time for over a decade in development. The game is dead. I suggest moving on. Edit: with regards to TrustyJam's response, whilst I did make a comment aimed at people suffering from obesity, this is a very odd thing to ban someone permanently from a Steam community hub for saying. I later attempted to contact a few of the developers on Discord with the goal of discussing what happened and what could be done, and they proceeded to ghost me before banning me from their server when I asked publicly why they were ghosting me. I feel like there was political motivation behind this, as many, much stronger insults, are said frequently on the War of Rights Steam discussion forum, without the same result. In any case, even disregarding this issue, my other criticisms of the game remain. I think the developers just wanted to silence other criticism I have made in the past of War of Rights, and my comment in question allowed them to do that under the guise of it being a 'slur' (if it is considered one, it was only rather mildly ableist, and it also shows how selectively the developers enforce their own rules). As I said, I gave TrustyJam an opportunity to discuss this entire matter, and he was completely, utterly unwilling to talk about it. I am generally an open-minded and diplomatic person, I like to discuss things and hear both sides before making a decision. However, in this case, my issue was completely ignored.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 280.33/day in the week to Jul 17 → 7/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Booted up the game, spawned into a full-on infantry charge, ran at a bunch of confederates, beat two of them to death with the butt of my rifle, got called the n-word 3 times, then died to a bayonet wound to the head. 10/10 would charge again.
I would violently recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing video games. The gameplay is gripping! It is rather immersive if I were to be so bold as to say so myself! You can play as either the confederates or, even the bad guys, also known as the unionists. You must play with your team and obey your commanders (who are real ppl actually), although sometimes they let their egos get the better of them, and are subdued by their own delusions of leadership. Im an American in Wisconsin. Im a fan of everything Western, 1800's, and love learning about the civil war. I actually bought the computer specifically to play this game. and it has exceeded my expectations. i love the historical naroration. the authenticity of the battles as well as the authenticity of peoples attitudes. no matter how offensive it may be. war is pretty offensive. the game is great. i have no complaints. You will die... ALOT!! I love this game!
This is the game I always wanted. As a American Civil War autist this game tickles the tism. The graphics, sound design, historical accuracy is just spot on. The player NCO/Officer, proximity chat and large open maps makes this game hilariously chaotic and fun. Hope it gains more attention its an absolute blast
One of the better Civil War games? Sure. A quality product that feels cared for and will be feature complete in a reasonable amount of time? 1000% no. No way. I have been watching this game for years and only recently bought it because I wanted to finally try it out. I spent most of my time with several different regiments (Both of which had a leader who was a $80 kick starter backer that are still waiting for their backer awards... 10 years later... Yikes.) I regret giving a dev team money that I think really don't deserve it, but im glad I did it so I could see just how many ways this titles falls short. It was great for my perspective and I have spent many hours laughing and shaking my head, wondering how people tolerate this. This is less of a product and more of a 'ever changing artisic vision'. Thats what the devs say, anyway. The community seems to be content in allowing this game to never be finished and have zero community tools in the mean time... A multiplayer game in the Cry Engine is already a huge red flag, but man after all these years you'd figure it would be atleast a bit polished, if not feature complete.... Text not displaying properly on the main menu and options screen... Animations glitching out, arbitrary formation mechanics that limit gameplay (not in a good way). There are zero community tools available, so the devs balance the ticket counts for both public and private event games... with the same values, as if they are even remotely the same experience... The community that carries this game has zero control over their own events, the community aren't even allowed to host their own servers, they need to pay a premium and can't even control the ticket counts for their own private server they pay top dollar for. They can't even pick their own map rotations for their own servers, so 200+ players need to wait for 2+ map changes just to get to the map the event is actually on. Thats how unfriendly this game is to its own users. Thats just unacceptable. The basics aren't even done, what hope is there for this 'artistic vision'? People call this a 'sim'. Thats laughable, its a unfinished video game people. It really is mind boggling what people will put up with. If you are a fan of the Civil War, im sure you'll tolerate this just fine. If you like a decent video game? I might pass on this one.
My Honest review: The game is fun and interesting, it's entirely the community that makes it. You are put into teams with a commanding officer leading you along with NCO's backing their command... these are players, not NPC's, nothing is scripted, these are usually people who have been playing the game for years and know each other. Some CO's are better than others which is a given but, it is worth doing what they tell you to do because this game requires teamwork on a large scale compared to other games. It's slow paced at times, often you will be running from one side of the field to the other and then back again with nothing in between... reloading takes 20 seconds per shot and your stamina runs out quick, that's normal, this is not call of duty but, give it time and you will be charging alongside 50-100-200 men into a head on clash which is where the real fun is. It is not for the faint of heart, the woke, the salty or the easily upset, people can and will say hurty words to you and there is some toxicity in the servers but, it's rare and there are admins in the PUBS servers (The main servers everyone uses outside of events) who will sort that out if you drop them a message. The main thing you will need to accept is the mouth on some people... think pre-2014 cod lobbies. You do have the ability to mute anyone so that's an easy fix but just accept that people will say bad words to you, don't cry about it. As a brit I do get targeted on occasion but, I take it in stride and keep playing, 99% of the time it's just banter, just the odd troll who takes it too far. Putting that aside, the community is genuinely brilliant, I've met some hilarious people in voice chat and really upped my experience through getting to know some of them, the game is what you make of it and you will either find it really slow and boring or you will see it for the community driven game that it is alongside developers who are actively updating and improving the game even years later, no microtransactions, no leaderboards, just straight up gameplay.
Amazing game and fun community. Please buy this game so the servers fill up.
