I never leave reviews. This game is a gem. I played this with a friend 1-2 years ago we had an amazing playthrough even though there were some obvious improvements that needed to be made. Since then we've both monitored the games progress. A lot of smaller release games like this are cash grabs. A decent idea semi-realized and then abandoned once its made a decent bag. That's not this game. The dev's have an original, fun idea, and have consistently communicated with their community. They put a counter for post release updates on their store page. They have proven they're committed and continued to work on the game despite a recent leadership change and initially overestimating their abilities. Gameplay wise, if you want a mobile base builder game with environmental effects and fun combat, this game is worth your time. The drills and equipment are the right mixture of complicated and customizable that make each upgrade feel earned and fun. For some the resource collection will be tedious but the dev's have been working to make the map locations more unique, improve mobility, and make the enemies more diverse. Strong recommend. Very excited to play and see more of the new map now that it's preview is up. Cheers to the Volcanoid Team. Keep it up.

New "Hunt" patch means every time you fight a couple of patrols, you get forced to fight an overwhelming, military style quick reactionary force... or you get to hide underground for ten minutes and just not play. If playing the games means not playing the game, then I'm just not going to play the game. This is strangely out of place when the rest of the cog difficulties are customization, but this one isn't. Edit: This apparently applies specifically to co-op, where the threat accumulates 2-4 times quicker than in solo.
I like the concept of using the bodyparts of 3 different divisions of the COGs faction for different purposes and I love the fact that multiplayer is more stable than it used to be. But please, do not buy it just yet. The unstable multiplayer is what turned away my friends and I from this game back in 2022-2023, maybe earlier. But now, I feel COGs spawn WAY too much and the ones you actually want just never spawn. It leaves me with only 2 theories; 1) Since my drillship was green and almost T2 all across the board, it likely prevented all other T2 Research Drillships from spawning. 2) Because there was a T1 Research Drillship on the surface of the island almost all the time, it prevented a T2 Research Drillship from spawning Either way, this completely prevented me from upgrading my Research Worktable to get Iron-grade weapons and armour even though I looked everywhere I could for 8 hours. 8 HOURS. 8 HOURS I SPENT LOOKING FOR A SINGLE T2 RESEARCH DRILLSHIP. On another note, the Tesla enemies and tanks spawn a bit too frequently for the amount of damage they do. I would strongly recommend that gets dialed back a bit, especially if the T2 Research Drillships are as rare as a flying pig. What I would do personally, is create a rare resource that could be found in T1 Drillships that's a broken version of the rare resource. With a little more resource hunting, you could fix it up or destroy to get a chance at a piece to make it into 1 of that division's T2 'Rare Component'. For example, you found a broken sensor in a T1 Research Drillship? Fix it up with the missing parts/resources and you get 1 Sensor.
the game can be a -Little- Clunky, however, i've followed the game since 2019, pirated old versions, bought the early access when i had money. but honestly, no other game feels like how this game promises (and those promises may be Arriving in a Month! (NEW ISLAND UPDATE!?) but if you like factories and production, get this. if you like Solo FPS Games? Get this. like protecting your Base? this. roleplay as THE UNDERMINER- yeah- uh, this. most everything is straightforward, makes sense, and isn't -TOO- Punishing. i feel very excited for this games Future. (i typed this with smol, Lizard hands)
comlicated, difficult, but pretty fun! also, please give me the rolling cog vehichle thing its so cool i need it please i need it
Unreasonable difficulty and no fairness between you and enemies. (to hide the fact that there is no content) The truth is, DEVs had one good idea (volcano eruption and all the steampunk drillship thingy) but not enought content, because of that as soon you cross the first part of the game (destroy laser drill) they just super ramp up the difficulty up to the SUN to prevent you of developing further and each time you even try to get what you need some Hyper Super black mech spiders spawn in 3 seconds, just in front of your drillship (those reach your ship b4 you, jumping like superman and traversing mountains in 2 seconds) and DELETES your vessel, they destroy all your storage, all your modules, (they explode your chests and storages inside your drillship without even needing to destroy the walls its RIDICULOUS, you LOOSE ALL MINERALS, COMPONENTS YOU GRINDED, kills you even inside of your drillship, leaving your backpack in the limbo, you literally looses EVERYTHING going back to stone-age and needing to start from zero, then it takes 3 more hours grinding everything back from scratch, mining all those dumb lvl 1 minerals, working like a retarded to rebuild EVERYTHING and to try again, just to be DELETED once again in 20 seconds. Devs put the money in their pockets, never looked back to the game again and are already gone. Stay away.
So far, this game has been a lot of fun! There's something about setting up a mobile base armed to the teeth with guns, while also sending out mining drones that just hits the spots. Wish I could build my own tanks/bots though to send out against the onslaught that comes for me.
Great little game! Gameplay loop is short, yet satisfying and relatively good, multiplayer is stable, and the amount of refined crafting and automation available is actually kinda impressive. You can tell they are crafters at heart. It has real potential but its been in EA for 6 years and it still needs a lot of love. It needs a texture overhaul real bad... its got Oblivion level graphics from a 2016 engine. It needs to expand the playable area, add some enemy variety (even if it was different movesets per refinement, production, etc...), make windows NOT a module, and allow the end game to include the ability to own more than 1 drill. (You get to the end of upgrades an thats kind of it. We need motivation to keep playing). Got it on sale for 13$usd. That is the right price point for the amount of content currently. It retails for 20. By that ratio, they need to up the content by 65% and it will be perfect for its pricepoint.
This game is a hard one to actually review and I will try to be open and honest. Graphics - At times a rather comical affair but then at the same time, nicely made. Not exactly pushing the boat out but gets the job done. Gameplay - On Easy = ok ...normal = hard ....hard = WTF. Without providing spoilers, the latter stages due to game mechanics means that on normal and hard the final "key" to the last area is a damn pain in the arse and should be made more reliable and not so....temperamental. Mechanics - standard. Nothing overly impressive but then nothing that makes me say "eeeek". Longevity - medium. Now I have finally completed it, to me it's a job done, tick, the end. It's a closed story which, to be fair, is kind of stupid as once you have finished then you either restart or just quit. This game had a permenant quality to it but they decided to close loop it. Better for the story but kills the game off. I would say its a 5/10 to be fair. It has a nice niche feel to it, but it has a short life, little replay and the gameplay is a little monotonous and is frankly just graded to 3 levels of actual difficulty. The mission guidance is average at best which kind of hampers progress because at time you can be looking around for what to do next instead of a clear path of progression which the game requires. 160 hours of play and frankly I'm...meh. Buy it cheap but, frankly, only buy for cheap thrills....like a cheap hooker on pay day, you can have some fun but it's brief and you might regret it later but it scratches an itch (try to avoid the itching ;) )
