full price, criminally underrated. excellent port

My favourite shmup, right next to Eschatos/Judgment Silversword. Played tons of it on PS3. It's pretty simple, the scoring system is understandable for anyone without a maths degree and the music's great. It also has badass helicopters blowing up everything in their paths.

A very addictive and extremely polished shmup! While it may look a bit generic at first glance, the levels have very tight design, and the visual and audio feedback that you get from shooting things is next-level amazing. The rotation mechanic is also a very small but neat addition that is very helpful for getting good coverage of the screen. The soundtrack is also pretty great. I will make one suggestion: don't bother with the Original soundtrack. Switch it to Arranged, as it is identical to the original but slightly extended (so each track gets its own guitar solo, basically). New Order soundtrack is a lot more upbeat, so definitely give this one a try if you find the original to be a bit too mellow. Boosted is for not me. Sounds like generic club music. There are three modes: Arcade is my personal preference. It has a vertical orientation similar to Raiden, as you can move to the left and right to slightly scroll the screen and reveal more of the stage. It's apparently not arcade-perfect, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment. New Order is the game re-designed for a 16:9 aspect ratio. To make up for the much wider playing field, you can rotate your helicopter a full 45 degrees to the left or right. It's a good mode if you want to play the game in widescreen, though since they essentially had to re-design the entire game, it does have a slightly different feel. Then there's New Order Plus. This is essentially an arrange mode, featuring many waves of enemies that you have to defeat to move forward. You also get to rotate your helicopter 90 degrees in either direction now. I believe this mode was made with the new and optional twin-stick control scheme in mind. Personally, this mode is not for me, but it is a neat addition if you just want something fresh. Any shmup fan needs to have this game in their library. (Maybe eventually we can get Border Down on Steam, too?)

A SEGA Dreamcast/Naomi classic that is always welcomed on any platform, and finally on PC! The additional stuff should be enough for old fans to justify buying the game again. The new "boosted" soundtrack being interesting but clearly departing from just sounding like a normal "remixed" version. It -can- grew on you but if not, no worries, all previous renditions of the BGMs are still there and kicking. Overall, you can clearly think of this being the "ultimate" official version of the game. It's a pretty solid port with enough content to last you for a while. Too bad G.Rev isn't keen to port "Border Down" for whatever reasons (we still got "Strania" before it, kind of mind blowing is you ask me...) but never say never, prove me wrong guys! In the meantime, Under Defeat it is~

Underrated? Under the radar? Under appreciated? You get all of that in this game: Under Defeat. If you're a shmup virgin like me, yet you love a great arcade game that is EZ to play, hard to master? cathartic to go through? AND very satisfying to truly master? with a good soundtrack to boot? ...Then what are you waiting for? Go pick this one up! And if you are ever so curious, the anime characters on the cover aren't just for show....master the game, and you shall see....That is, if you are interested in that sort of thing...

Great port of a great shmup. Do kinda wish for some other windowed video options between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 though...
