About
You know, when you explain an idea, the idea fundamentally changes.
UNBEATABLE is an anime-juiced rhythm adventure where you (figuratively) destroy on stage while you (literally) destroy on stage. During rhythm gameplay, you only need two buttons: a button for up and a button for down. Simple to understand! The complicated part is doing it. Try not to get destroyed yourself.
Half the game is walking around and taking things at your own pace. The other half is trying to keep up with ours.
The pink-haired girl is Beat, and she is you, and you have a lot of things to worry about. The cops are everywhere, and they are mad at you for what feels like no good reason. Though it doesn't help your case that you keep making friends with people that the cops are mad at for slightly better reasons. But what do I know?
Talk to people, help them out (or don't, I'm not your mom!), play huge concerts, and punch cops. And then run away from the cops you punched. Also there are monsters or something. Not sure what's going on there?!?!
All of this culminates in massive setpieces where everything is at stake. The music got you here. It'll get you through it.
*if this was 1999 this section would be called "talk the talk and rock the rock"
UNBEATABLE's full arcade mode is an entire game by itself with its own progression system and a full online component. There's modifiers, tons of songs (with more to come!) and a whole challenge board to beat, with things to do that range from as simple as "beat a song on easy mode" to, one may presume, something as complicated as "solve an ancient riddle while skateboarding." That's not a real example.
**if this was 1999 this section would be called "party like it's now"
FEATURES:
Story Mode: 6-8 hours. Arcade Mode: UNLIMITED
Characters that hate you!
Maybe also some that don't!
The arcade mode has a cute little profile you can customize and unlock stuff for and I think that's pretty neat
Graphics! We'd describe them but I mean it's right there, you can see it
A whole entire double album worth of original songs
plus acoustic versions of those songs
oh and also remixes, too
You can unlock all the songs by playing the narrative OR just by playing the arcade game exclusively! Great for those who truly hate stories
Something (in this game) will make you feel something (in real life)!
It's anime
If you think about it, QTEs are basically just rhythm games with no music
Please, whatever you do, the title is either all caps or no caps. Be kind to us.
And the idea changes you in return.

UBEATABLE is my #1 "what-if" game of all time. It is absolutely *dripping* with style, and it's full of so many inspired moments. The development team must have poured their souls into this. Briefly, it gets at the space around an idea that I've felt but never heard described before. That moment alone makes me glad I played it, and I don't think I'll ever forget the game. But...it feels like it's built out of popsicle sticks and glue. It's half-baked and overcooked at the same time. The story starts really, really slowly. Running around the environments is awkward, confusing, and annoying. The automatic camera movement mostly works. The game has typos. The voice acting cuts in and out, and it's hard to tell if certain lines are meant to be voiced but it's just bugged, or if they actually only recorded half the lines for a scene. Sometimes the text and voices differ in trivial ways. I played on expert difficulty, and there were only 3 songs I had to try more than once. One of them I had to try close to a hundred times and the other two took me under 5 tries. The game has a bunch of minigames and side stuff that you have to navigate and then it's dropped and never touched again. I could go on. All in all, the good doesn't cancel out the bad. The various elements of the game don't cohere. The exploration, visuals, puzzles, characters, rhythm gameplay, music, difficulty, and story fail to complement each other.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

i've been following and anticipating unbeatable ever since white label released. it has so many great things going for it. the music is phenomenal, the art is amazing, and the rhythm gameplay is akin to muse dash, another rhythm game that i've played and enjoy. so, it's really frustrating to be making this review. i want to preface that i played through the story mode on unbeatable difficulty with the flashy visual effects turned on. game performance was fine, running on ultra settings with a 1660 provided a smooth experience for the most part. as for the story episodes, i have many gripes with them. the difficulty wasn't really what i expected and isn't consistent. i found episodes 4 and 5 to be the hardest (besides the cop fight in episode 3 where cop trauma plays, i absolutely despised this fight). for the normal rhythm gameplay across all episodes, i pretty much breezed through it all. however, i can't say the same for the vertical fight portions. the way they're set up made it difficult for me to tell which side incoming notes were coming from next. it also doesn't help when you have the fights swapping between lanes all over your screen, notes being ridiculously close to the judgement lines after aforementioned swaps, and the notes seemingly being on the lanes for a much shorter time compared to the more charming normal gameplay. now don't get me wrong, i like a challenge, that's the whole reason why i decided to play on unbeatable difficulty. many of the fights took multiple attempts, exacerbated by my visual effects choice, but i was fine with that. that was, until i had to redo the cargo elevator fight 10+ times, each time having to skip through the dialogue to get back. this got tiring really quickly and really brings into question why there's no option to immediately replay fights/songs after failing them. furthermore, the lack of qol really showed through while getting all the steam achievements. having to play all of the minigames and obtain a bunch of collectibles would've been fine if there was a quicker way to do it, but as it stands you have to go back and play from the start of the corresponding episodes. although this gives you a chance to explore alternative dialogue options, i really think the option to go into specific days of any of the episodes should be available. i found other time sink achievements like one very full combo and [white label] to be fine since it was enjoyable to play through a bunch of different songs. on the other hand, the i know what kind of person you are achievement is quite possibly one of the most displeasurable things i've ever experienced. the associated brickout minigame is just such a buggy and unpolished mess. the ball's weird hitbox causes it to not bounce back when hitting the sides of blocks even though the block gets destroyed, game overs can randomly occur, and the physics are inconsistent. all of this, combined with what seems like the ball gravitating towards open holes, led to 8 boring hours of retrying until i eventually got a lucky run. this really needs to get replaced with something actually fun or interesting. moving on, i wish i was able to enjoy the story as much as others have. the intro sequence with mic check was really promising, but episodes 1-4 ended up being pretty underwhelming. i feel that the story would've been better off without some of the jump cuts. it wasn't until episodes 5 and 6 that i regained some interest, but this didn't salvage the overall experience. i did find it cool for a game like this to have voice acting, even if it sounded unnatural for the majority of the time in the earlier episodes. overall though, the story failed to grab my attention and i found myself unable to resonate with it. unfortunately don't really have much else to say about the story since i've forgotten most of it at the time of writing this but it seems that the story just wasn't for me. in the end, it's evident that d-cell games took a lot of liberties and poured a lot of passion into this game over 7+ years of development, but the game definitely leaves a lot to be desired. with everything said, i still like unbeatable for the muse dash-esque gameplay and will continue to play the arcade mode here and there. i'll also most likely pick up the jamie paige dlc when that releases. however, i find it difficult to recommend the game in its current state unless you're planning to pick it up during a sale and play purely for the arcade mode.
So this isn't really gonna be a review but more a spill of thoughts as I just finished this game and felt like I had to write something now before it loses from my head. This game is such a mess. At least to me the story is jumbled, the setting is interesting but very poorly fleshed out in so many ways, the game is buggy at times, animations can be smooth one moment and stilted and rough the next, the game can have several moments in it where its just not fun to play as a game and almost monotonous (lookin at you ep2) , and the dialogue can be extremely disjointed and hard to follow at times in terms of what is even trying to be said. The story itself feels like the writings from a journal sifted through the thoughts of a mind palace, if that even makes sense. I struggled to finish this and I took a big break around ep4 of months which is crazy to think of as its not even that long. It's a complete mess in so many ways yet has so much heart and beauty in it that I can't not love what it gave. The art style and world give me 2000s Studio Trigger vibes (Kill la Kill especially in terms of the world). The MUSIC IS INCREDIBLE (shouldn't be a surprise in a rhythm game), with so much in tone and feeling. It can be punk and in your face with a garage rock feel, heavy and oppressive with some of the industrial beats, and melancholic with the slower, more emotional songs. The dialogue and the way characters speak to each other at first was a negative for me, with characters cutting each other off and speech bubbles being overwritten by others. But it eventually became something that I appreciated because of how real it felt. Conversations are filled with constant cutoffs and drops and people yelling over each other and games don't really capture that feeling of how people really talk to each other (shoutout to the VAs they did an amazing job). And it had me laughing out loud as much as it had me introspecting from its words. The story and writing is so messy. So many things kind of just happen and there's very little explanation on why things are just happening. The break I took in the middle may have affected that but there was a lot of points where I struggled to understand the character motivations or why some characters were even fighting or what was happening to them. But especially in the last couple of hours, this game was able to touch on so many feelings on identity, loss, feeling stuck in life and the struggle of creating art and music and the emotions that push us through those struggles that in the end I kind of stopped caring about how we got here and cared more about what the writers had to say. It almost felt like watching someone spill their guts out in a diary entry, a jumble of thoughts and doubts the characters have to fight through to reach their conclusion, and that's what I found beautiful about it. It was raw and passionate, and many times had me in my feels with its final crescendo. If you end up like me and decide to buy the game because of the cool art style, punk aesthetic and music and enjoy rhythm games. You will probably enjoy the arcade mode a lot because there its purely that and its very fun. Even when I wasn't going through the story I would occasionally boot up just to do a few of songs in there. The story on the other hand is different. There will be many points in it where you feel the game is struggling to figure out where it is going and will probably get on your nerves once or twice. But I definitely would say to see it through, because you will reach those end credits and not only see a passionate team fulfilling there dream project, but also leave with a rollercoaster chorus of emotions and a heartwarming message of life and the pain we push through to find the meaning of it. Music is one of the greatest forms of expression that we have, and this entire game feels like it encapsulates that idea to its fullest.
It's a great concept and very pretty but this game doesn't feel finished yet, hope it gets update one day and I can come back.

This is quite possibly one of the worst attempts at a game I've ever played. The tags claim it is a rhythm game but it's really a very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ walking simulator that has a poorly designed rhythm section haphazardly stapled to the side. I played for an hour and didn't naturally encounter any rhythm game sections at all. The story might be good but in the hour I spent with it nothing was worth sticking around for. Any time a game says "I don't have time to explain" my response is "Then I don't have time for your game." I did try out the arcade but there's too much visual clutter to get any sense of flow going. This is one of those games you know got made entirely in a bubble because if anyone on the dev team had shown this to someone outside said team they'd have already heard all of this. Lastly, I can't comment of the soundtrack because the game never showed it to me. "Do you recommend this game?" There needs to be a more negative response than No because that's how this game makes me feel. Maybe like a "Not even if I was paid to."
Great game, undoubted. But we all need chinese. Hope the official Chinese translation comes out soon.
Unbeatable is a bizarre experience, and not in a good way. It feels like it wasn't meant to be experienced by people who weren't part of the development team.
Story is inconsistent in both its pacing and the logic behind its events. I've played for six hours and i'm genuinely at a loss as to why people in this game do the things they do. It's like listening to your friends talk about something after joining the conversation too late. You spend a while just trying to figure out what the hell they're talking about. It feels like the development team just didn't feel like giving players the context needed to understand and dive in their world. Core gameplay is alright. Although i'm not a fan of this genre, it kept me entertained. The problem is that it's really buggy. Bugs keep showing up in all kinds of ways: sometimes a music track starts with incorrect timing, forcing you to lose just to reset it, sometimes the collision works like ♥♥♥♥, sometimes the camera shows crazy angles that are obviously not intended or characters just floating in the air for no reason. I probably wouldn't be so irritated by them if this game had just come out, but it hasn't. It's been like this for seven months or so. Unbeatable has the feel of a gamejam project in many aspects, like developers just didn't have enough time to polish it. Tutorial especially gives off that impression. Just like with the story, you're expected to figure out each minigame's controls on your own. It's not difficult or even particularly time-consuming, but it feels like nobody cared about the player's experience.

I would've dropped Unbeatable within the first few hours if this incomprehensible mess were all it had to offer. The developers' artistic vision is astonishing. The game looks and sounds incredible, expensive and unique. Characters are always bursting with visual charisma, action scenes are flashy and small, quiet moments are beautifully drawn. And that's what confuses me the most. Why are the other aspects of the game so different?
