I would actually rather tidy up my house than play this any more. That's how soulless it felt!

To get it out of the way first, yes this game has a LOT of AI generated artwork and assets. I bought it still knowing that because I enjoy cleaning games and still wanted to give it a shot thinking "the AI couldn't be THAT bad, it won't bother me THAT much". Nope. The AI art is plentiful and ugly. I cannot get my mind over the fact that there's a series called Preys and Predators and the lion on the cover just does not look like a lion. Someone had a review discussing design cues, and how important it is that families have related themes to tie them together outside of "romantic" sounding titles, or movies that sound "action-y." I can see where you want to have some kind of realism, video covers in real life do not all match the same design philosophy, but on a gameplay perspective, that means I'm looking through tons of visual clutter instead. Im not looking for VHS tapes that could be in the same section, but more remembering that Fatty Bear 1 goes in the same sections as Super Ant. Put simply, the sorting process just feels less satisfying. If you can excuse the AI art, this game still feels boring and soulless compared to other tidy up games out there. It does not do much to deviate from the already existing formula, but any changes that it makes are neutral at best. The skill tree is a neutral addition-- I understand it makes it so that you are encouraged to find more tapes to recharge each ability and not immediately power up the more broken ones, but it makes the first half of the game very slow. Towards the end, you can chain powers together and it makes finishing the game very quick. The controls feel very slippery. I feel like I'm sliding when I jump and move and I find that the game will lag when turning around or using the highlight ability when I'm an hour or so in. TLDR: there's better ones out there. The AI art really IS that bad. You aren't missing out on skipping this one.
I can’t recommend the game in its current state. The biggest issue is that it frequently freezes completely. I’ve included my system specs for reference, and I haven’t encountered this problem in other games of the same genre. There are also a few design choices that bother me. The tutorial at the beginning is mandatory and completely locks you into its progression; you can’t access the skill tree until you finish the required tutorial steps. The skill tree itself also has to be unlocked in a fixed order, leaving very little freedom. While looking into the freezing issue, I also noticed someone insulting players’ skill levels under negative reviews reporting the same problem (wtf?). I’m not going to speculate on whether that person has any connection to the developers, but seeing that kind of response definitely left a very poor impression.
Poorly made. Tapes clip through the walls, floor and other tapes. AI tape cover art is just devoid of any character or charm Upgrades are slow, and appear like a tech tree but force you crappy skills you don't want Controls feel awful
Im only going to beat the game because I already have mindlessly spent so much time playing it. Would love a mod that changes all of the AI crappy imagery of the video coverart into something else. Otherwise, the game is okay. Its fun enough and at $5 it gets the job done for what it is. I just cant recommend such strong AI use in a space where artists could have drawn something funnier.
Completed the normal mode within 2.7hrs and to be honest the only thing left to-do is to complete it on No Skills mode, and to be honest, there's no incentive to do that, actually, the thought of doing it is daunting and I can already feel how horrible and tedious because the grind doesn't feel fun.....most likely going to do it because its the only way to get the last achievement, but I don't want to, hahaha. Not sure it's worth the price either. Not sure they can even add any content to it to this that would add any play value. All of the cassettes are extremely unmemorable, mostly created with AI and there textures are buggy and some blurry.
I really wanted to like this game. I love the nostalgia of it all and the creativeness of the tapes. But... the controls are weird and when trying to change the key bindings it only works some of the time. The locking the skills behind a number of shelved tapes is odd. The game itself seems bland. Compared to some of the other sorting games that are coming out right now it really just doesn't scratch that itch in my brain. It just seems like a chore and not as fun. I wanted to enjoy it, but I don't think I'm going to finish it. So I can't in good conscience recommend it.
