oh my god dude i was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scared the whole time This game displays a really impressive amount of flexibility from its mostly singular developer. This guy made Turbo Overkill, one of the best boomer shooters ever that feels like it was made by a AAA studio, then turned around and made a horror game that feels even more high-budget. It's very polished, constantly introduces new elements to keep you scared, has some really good combat and general combat-feel for a horror game, and a genuinely compelling inner story about the horrible person you've chosen to be. I still gotta play that NG+ mode, though
this game NAILS atmosphere, while also taking full advantage with the the amazing setting and genuinely scared me with some enemy placement and especially the fire doors. the story was something I was privy to before playing this game, but I love the changes they made at the end. also the new voice for Tyler is such a step up when it comes to range and emotion. Love this game <3

i love my alcohol, and my ciggies and i love my wife

First and foremost, I think this is a good game, but I don't think its for me. I've put about 6 hours in, made it to "The Storm" chapter, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not having that much fun with this. I reached a point where they throw a returning enemy at you, The Widow, a weeping angel type. And then 2 more. The first encounter was short and sweet and I enjoyed it. This encounter just left me feeling tired and frustrated. I'll probably finish up the story watching a play through. I think the story that I have gotten so far is good, as is the ambience, and the overall atmosphere is oppressive. I think I might have enjoyed the game more without the survival crafting aspect. Constantly watching my hunger bar was tedious. The crafting system, while I do like it, felt like it took me out of the game more than immersing me. I felt like there were enough makeshift weapons laying around that they coulda done without most of the crafting stuff. Maybe just had an upgrade bench to add the barb wire and nails and whatnot. Map. One of those woulda made my experience so much more enjoyable. I can't count how many times I found myself lost and turned around and having no idea where to go, re-running through completed levels wondering where exactly I was meant to be going. And of course all these complaints are subjective. They might be why other people like the game. But if you're like me, it doesn't take long for all these little frustrations to add up and make it unenjoyable. So as I said initially, it's a good game, just not something for me.
I loved a lot about this game. The atmosphere is great, the controls are tight, and enemies are cool, the crafting was well done, and I truly enjoyed the melee combat. So why the thumbs down? I almost rage quit during chapter two (the whole, if you don't look at the enemy they move trope) and it had so many dead ends I basically had to memorize the layout so I could run through it backwards. Unless I missed something, I didn't see another way to do it. During the fuse puzzle in Chapter 3, I gave up after trying about 15 times. I enjoy difficult games, I died over 120 times the first time I beat The Evil Within, but in that games it felt like the deaths were my fault. n chapter 3 of this game, the creature touches you and you basically die. And it's pitch black so you can't see, but it can see you. It was so frustrating I don't know how any game developer can think that was a fun time. So much of the gameplay is great, but I can't get over how tedious and frustrating certain sections are.
There is certainly total chaos
