Toroa: Skycall

A beautiful little adventure, has a lot of character and very obviously had a lot of love put into it. Definitely worth the money especially to support the devs!!

This is such a relaxing cozy game. Like if you want to lean back and relax this is it. Stunning visuals, cool characters to meet, kinda banging music and the baby albatross are the cutest thiccest thing you will ever meet. Big shoutout to how the NZ culture and language is integrated. It was amazing

Toroa: Skycall doesn't ask much of your time, but it's likely to take up some space in your mind for a while. It's gorgeous. Visually stunning. The music did a masterful job of setting the mood for each phase of the game. The game eases you into its flight mechanics with a linear tutorial segment that ensures you know how to take off, land, and maneuver in the air before setting you off into a flight course with cloud rings to fly through. Soon you'll meet characters: some silly, some serious, some mystical and unknowable. And once the game is confident that you know what you're doing, it opens up into larger areas where you can really stretch your wings, explore, and achieve objectives. There's really two parts to the story in this game. One is the story of the albatross you control. The other is a bit deeper. This game has a message to tell you, and while it's not going to spell it out for you in plain text, it's going to make sure you understand. I did cry a little. My play time lasted about three hours. I could see myself giving this a replay every now and then when I'm really feeling the mood and wanting the vibes. And really, how many games have you seen featuring an albatross? Such a beautiful, underrated bird.

I got this in a bundle I think, and that is where I am basing this review. It was about 2 hours or so end to end, and is part education and part albotross flight simulator. If you use flight sims, be sure to invert the controls -_- It is short, low key / relaxing, and not hitting you with too much so as a very chill experience I give it a 6.5/10 in a bundle / 80%+ discount from the posted USD$12.99 price. Unless you want to support the devs, then of course pay more for it. I don't think I learned anything serious about Maori culture, except perhaps how modern Maori speak (reminds me of native Hawaiian slang a little). Also learned that garbage cleaning robots are canon -_-

I enjoyed my time with Toroa: Skycall. It's absolutely at its best when you're in full flight, skimming the surface of the water, boosting through vortexes and careening amongst the trees on the coast of Aotearoa. The flow state of flight and the joy of movement. If anything I wish there were more of it, sometimes when the game slows down for a moment it can feel antithetical to the feeling of being Toroa... but that contrast can also make those moments of joy as you soar through the sky extra special as well.

this game was great!! such a love letter to te ao māori and i am looking forward to playing it in the full te reo māori version soon! i love my fat toroa pēpi

Nice chill flying game with great atmosphere and a lot of heart. I really liked the music and the art for all the animals is really expressive. Also neat to see the Māori cultural references - as an Aussie who doesn't know too much about our neighbours, I feel like I learned something.

Great soundtrack! Great writing! Great art design! Great gameplay! Great everything! Great!
