Toro

This is a unique idea for a sports simulator. I don’t think this was ever with the resources this developer was working with it was every going to be “good,” but it still could have been a fun distraction. It sort of was, for a time, but… oof, the controls. I have no idea how you’re supposed to time your reactions. The first moves you unlock are easy enough to pull off, but then you have to account for the bull’s distance and angle of attack. It doesn’t feel consistent at all which direction or what distance you press the buttons from, there’s no feedback aside from it telling you when you get it right. It would be one thing if the moves were just hard to pull off, but they each have a different button combination. You’d think that would allow you to use any of them after you unlock them, but you can only assign four to your bullfighter at a time. Why have all of these different button combos you have to remember if you can only use four at a time? Let me use all the moves, or just simplify the controls so I don’t have to remember which button combos go with the moves I have equipped. You can’t stick with the same moves for convenience because you have to use newly unlocked moves to complete challenges on each stage in order to unlock more stages, not that you’d want to when the gameplay’s already so repetitive. Each stage is timed; they won’t end until you’ve waited through two three-minute timers. It’s excruciatingly dull when you’re just trying to hit the same combos over and over again on the same slow-moving bull, only occasionally interrupted by quicktime events, and they become even worse repeated over the course of career mode. Toro is just too unpolished and repetitive to have fun with. Even the ragdoll physics on the bullfighter are too stiff to get any enjoyment out of when you repeatedly get gored by the bull.

闘牛士となって牛と闘うゲーム。制限時間までコマンド入力で牛を回避してハイスコアを狙う。クリアしていくと技が増えるが、地味すぎる……。 しかし、グラフィックこそしょぼいが闘牛の流れなどは再現されており、リアルに趣がある。そこは本場スペインのマドリッドに拠点を置くゲーム会社だからかな。現実では他の娯楽の充実や動物愛護などの観点から闘牛は衰退しつつあるが、人間も命の危険に身をおいて牛と闘うことで牛に最大限の敬意を払っていると思うし、ゲームを通じて闘牛に思いを馳せてみてはどうだろうか？ 技が2回出たり、左右が入れ替わったり、やってると牛のようにイライラするのでオススメはしないが。
