(Leaving this as a positive review for the sake of the original Mane6 development team) Great game, had my fun with it. However, what saddens me as a backer is seeing active development abandoned, especially work being done on story mode cut off completely, that was a goal well exceeded in the crowdfund, and I genuinely wanted to see that being done. What's totally understandable is needing more time to be able to work on the game, not rushing things gives a game better quality. The not so understandable part is laying off the dev team and just raking in the profit, what BS. Mane6 put their soul into this game only for (most of?) them to be laid off and have development abandoned. As playable as the game is in its current state, I would not recommend buying, I don't think Mane6 is getting a cut of the sales and it's all going to Maximum Entertainment
Seeing the state of the game writing this review genuinely makes me sad dude.

I love the art style, I just wish they were able to do all they wanted to do with this game.
Great systems, cleanest, most non-cluttered and slick art style from all the 2D fighters I've played, great characters, insanely good music work, overall quality of things like training mode is higher than many AAA fighting games. It's hard to even comprehend how this is an indie FG, it's so good and so much work and passion put into this. Unfortunately, dead and underrated by the FGC. Absolute tragedy
This game deserved so much better...
An OK fighting I bought due to it being recommended so many times by the MLP community. If only its development continued it might have been a great game but alas it was abandoned in the state it is in
Impo goated fighting game, and pun is not even intended. Most characters have more or less straightforward kits and some universal controls, which allows even new players to pick it up pretty quickly, with the help of the thorough tutorial, including guides for individual characters. While the character kits aren't particularly complex, they can be utilized in highly advanced ways, pushing the boundaries of skill ceiling, and even unique ways - there won't be two players who play the same character the exact same way (this unique utilization is prominent in TFH more than in other fighting games in my experience). There is a story mode, a single finished chapter that's actually pretty fun and interesting. Pixel lobbies that have cosmetics and salt mines minigame, which can be fun to play in groups (remembering peak active community days here...). It's sad to see this game so inactive as of today, both community and development wise, although some regular community tournaments still happen. There are incompleted contents and balance nuances that should be addressed. All in all, I think TFH has been produced a great fighting game: characters with accessible kits that can be played on very advanced levels, thorough tutorial which introduces the very basics of fighting games as well as more advanced features for specific characters, engaging pixel lobbies with cosmetics and a minigame to play in groups, story mode with lore exploration and platforming and combat challenges. However, this game is currently experiencing a hopefully temporary downfall in terms of activity, both from community and development. I recommend trying TFH out to experience its the vast and unique possibilities of its characters, and I wish to see it glow up again.
current build is pretty damn jank, but saltmine runs with friends are still pretty fun. If you're on the fence about it cus of the cartoon horse aesthetic, don't be! I bought this game for several friends a few years back and it's gameplay won each of them over (with the exception of one, who was won over by pom's Johnny Bravo pallete) Also i backed this game when i was like 14 or something. I'm glad i did despite it's turbulent development cycles and publisher dramas ^u^;
I have nothing to say review wise honestly. I just miss this game :(
you're just as beautiful as the day i lost you
