The Turing Test

Any game attempting to ape Portal has one simple test to pass: Is it better than playing fan levels for Portal 2 for the same length of time? You'd think the test would be "is this game better than or on par with Portal 1 or 2?", but time has only shown just how pointless a question is when the answer is always "no". So instead I think it's fairer to compare to the fan content built in the actual skeleton of Portal. And honestly, the Turing Test fails that test entirely. What's here is pretty weak honestly. The puzzles are adequate enough, but do nothing that hasn't been done a thousand times before. Many mechanics are cribbed directly from Portal with often no changes at all, such as weighted boxes and ligtbridges. The only time I found myself stuck for any amount of time was in one optional puzzle, the reward for which was so pointless that I almost wished I hadn't bothered. The big issue with the Turing Test is it has too many mechanics, and none of them are fleshed out or interesting enough to be considered central. The game consistently introduces new puzzle tools every few levels right to its very end, meaning that most of the puzzles feel like tutorials rather than genuine headscratchers. But the puzzles aren't awful. They're passable, on the level of your fairly mindless newspaper faire, with some lateral thinking occasionally required. What of the story then? Sadly, it's no better. A nonsensical sandwich of exposition philosophy 101 thought experiments humorlessly discussed with a dull AI. All building up to a final moral quandary that feels like someone thought the trolley problem was too balanced and needed to be easier. Again, I want to say I don't hate the Turing Test, it's a decent enough first effort, but it's copying its homework from one of the best games of all time and as a result fails to bring anything interesting to the table. Play any other Portal clone, or hell, just replay Portal for the fiftieth time and ignore the Turing Test.

The Turing Test is a puzzle game that feels somewhat similar to Portal. The game is set up in rooms, and each room has a different puzzle you must complete, with there being 7 total chapters (each chapter has like 10 rooms). The puzzles were very interesting to play through, and most of them had a good blend of difficulty (difficult enough for me to think, but I never got hardcore stuck on any). There is an overarching storyline that dives into the philosophical nature of the turing test and a degree of morality (esp at the end). If I had one gripe, it would be that I wished the game was longer (I beat it in ~5hrs) I honestly enjoyed my time playing the Turing Test. If you were a fan of the Portal games, you will probably enjoy this one too.

The Turing Test - головоломка от малоизвестной студии Bulkhead Interactive хоть и издавалась силами Square Enix, какой либо известности или признания так и не получила, и очень жаль, что такая прекрасная игра прошла мимо большей части игроков. Перед нами головоломка от первого лица с полным отсутствием противников и какого либо экшена, на протяжении 70 тестовых комнат игроку предстоит решить разнообразные задачки используя местный аналог портальной пушки из Portal, только местное приспособление может захватывать в себя до трех энергетических шаров и в последствии выстреливать ими в ячейки питающие замки на дверях, гигантские магниты, всевозможные мосты, пластины реагирующие на нажатия и тд и тп. По моему описанию это выглядит достаточно примитивно, но как по мне у игры отличная кривая сложности, она плавно разгоняется, постепенно переходя к все более сложным головоломкам, добавляя постоянно какие то новые приспособления и нестандартные задачки. При этом хочу отметить что общий уровень головоломок тут относительно щадящий и в итоге я прошел игру полностью ни разу не воспользовавшись гайдами, чего не могу сказать о Portal и The Talos Principle. В каждой из глав есть по одной необязательной головоломке, и пожалуй некоторые из них я бы назвал самыми сложными, в награду за их прохождение игрок получает расширенные сведения о лоре игры. Кстати о лоре и сюжете - сразу могу сказать, что если геймплеем The Turing Test явно напоминает Portal, то вот при написании сюжета разработчики явно вдохновлялись моей любимой The Talos Principle, как по мне получилось все же послабее, но тоже крайне достойно. Под нашим управлением Эва Тьюринг - инженер международного космического агентства, находящийся на исследовательской станции на Европе - спутнике Юпитера. С помощью искусственного интеллекта по имени "Том" главная героиня должна посетить научный комплекс и выяснить причину пропажи группы исследователей. В ходе расследования мы натыкаемся на разнообразные записки и другие предметы раскрывающие сюжетную линию. В ходе сюжета поднимаются философские вопросы затрагивающие темы искусственного интеллекта, ценности жизни и неоднозначных моральных поступков. Опять таки, как я уже говорил ранее, многое из этого есть в The Talos Principle, только там это сделано намного глубже, The Turing Test же не хватает раскрытия темы, возможно виной тому слишком малая продолжительность - если на The Talos Principle у меня ушло около 30 часов то на героя моего обзора всего около 6. По багам и оптимизации все в порядке, с какими либо проблемами я не столкнулся на всем протяжении игры. Картинка приятная, дизайн уровней во многом напоминает Portal, но отличается от него чуть большим разнообразием. Музыка - в основном это приятный, ненавязчивый эмбиент, отлично дополняющий атмосферу и не перетягивающий внимание на себя. Однозначно рекомендую данную головоломку к прохождению, она вполне способна подарить яркие впечатления на пару вечеров.

A very interesting PORTAL-like puzzle game with Sci-Fi and Philosophical tones. Half puzzler, half First Person Explorer. If you like/liked PORTAL and The Talos Principle (and their sequels), I'd DEFINITELY recommend this!

Clunky controls and light story. And that's about it for the cons. Phenomenal atmosphere, wonderful puzzles and overall fascinating plot. A breeze to play if in the right mood for solving tests

A really good and fun puzzle game that scratches the itch that Portal leaves behind after playing of wanting playing more games similar to it. I wish there was a sequel to it.

4/5 No subtitles on audio logs sucks considering they are important story-wise and often have interference making them hard to understand.
