it very relaxing game!
Just the jankiest gameplay you can imagine that's not an indie project
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is a game I was immediately interested in because it takes the anime world and turns it into a large open world adventure. I play as Tristan and explore Britannia while dealing with a strange collision of time and space. I liked that the game is not simply retelling the original story because it gives me a new reason to explore familiar characters and locations. The combat is one of the strongest parts for me. I can build a team of characters with different abilities and switch between them during battles, which makes encounters feel more active than a basic menu driven RPG. Different weapons and character combinations give me reasons to experiment, and the special tag abilities make swapping characters during a fight feel useful rather than cosmetic. Exploration is just as important as combat. I can climb, swim, glide, investigate hidden areas and use character specific abilities to reach places that are otherwise inaccessible. I also enjoyed the smaller activities such as fishing, cooking, mining and crafting because they give me things to do when I want a break from fighting. The changing world and day and night cycle help make Britannia feel more active instead of like a collection of static zones. The presentation is easily one of my favorite parts. Britannia looks colorful and polished, and the anime inspired characters fit naturally into the large environments. I also liked the way the game mixes familiar faces from the series with new characters, because it gives the story a balance between nostalgia and something new. My biggest issue is the free to play structure. The game includes in game purchases and chance based purchases, and the character acquisition system can make progression feel less straightforward than it would in a traditional RPG. I enjoyed the actual exploration and combat more than the parts where I had to think about character pulls and long term progression. I also think the open world can sometimes feel more like a collection of activities than one tightly focused adventure. There is a lot to explore and plenty of side content, but not every task feels equally meaningful. When the main story is moving forward, I am much more interested than when I am simply clearing another optional objective. Overall, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is a polished and ambitious open world anime RPG with enjoyable combat and a world that is genuinely fun to explore. I loved switching between characters, finding hidden areas and taking breaks with the fishing and crafting systems. The free to play progression and occasional filler keep it from feeling completely consistent, but there is a lot here that I enjoyed. Rating: 7.2/10
