About

The Idol was lost — but not forgotten. In this followup to the award winning detective game The Case of the Golden Idol, you are an observer that must investigate 20 strange cases of crime, death and depravity - all somehow connected. Use your detective skills to make sense of a grand mystery that unfolds across an age of hallucinogens, disco, fax machines and parapsychology.

Two hundred years after the unspeakable fate of the Cloudsley family, the Idol's legend lives on only in whispers and myth… but some are determined for this to change. Discover the mysterious forces connecting a tenacious treasure hunter, a team of scientists, the members of an enlightenment-seeking cult and corporate profiteers drawn to the all-powerful artifact.

The Rise of the Golden Idol is a new type of detective game where you freely explore each crime scene at your own pace, using logic to build your own theories. Click to collect clues and analyze each discovery to determine what happened, why, and who was responsible.

Convicted prisoners, new age cult leaders, corporate middle management and many more figures have a role to play in the wider mystery that unfolds — each driven by their own agenda. Scour each scene for key details to put names to faces and deduce their motives.

A reworked interface lets you quickly gather key terms from observations and witness testimonies, greatly expanding the depth and variety of each scenario. Upon the conclusion of each chapter, a new type of puzzle lets you revisit past deductions, recap the events of these interconnected cases, and investigate the threads that unify them.

If you tell me to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ breath one more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. "RELAX" "TAKE A BREATHER MAN". the literal opposite way to make me relax when I'm stuck, I've asked for a hint, just give it to me. Passive aggressive ♥♥♥♥♥.
An A+ mystery and a worthy sequel to the first one, which is saying something, since the first game was already incredible. A little less grisly than the first one, which you can be happy about or not I guess (I'm a bit sad about it). But if you liked the first one, you'll love this one too. And if you don't know the first one, then HOO BOY you better play that one first. ---- Also there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of fantastic DLCs that I forgot to mention and they're all worth it

It's rare that a sequel to a good game successfully captures the magic of the original. And this one... may or may not. Depends on the player. But for everything it changes, it expands with sheer WALLs of lore. XD I enjoyed this very much, to the point where I will set it on the same quality shelf as the original. They experimented with some things, and kept true to others. There are some chapters of this game that FAR outshine the original (the apartment complex chapter is a microcosm of sheer storytelling), while still building the same world. Great game, great DLCs.
A genuine blast and big improvement over the already great Case of the Golden Idol (more fun and polished art, better UI and UX that gets less in the way of the art and makes the process of solving the puzzles faster and more convenient, and stronger writing that emphasizes characters even more). It's an absolute joy to piece together seemingly unrelated events throughout multiple points in history and slowly gain an understanding. The puzzles are varied, and entirely solvable - even if occasionally they might seem overwhelming at first. And if you're ever stuck, the hints in the game work well. Great game to play with a partner, too! PS: The "Detective Pass" DLC is an essential purchase alongside the main game - not that it doesn't stand alone well or get a proper resolution to its story, because it does! - but it just expands the world of the game wonderfully and adds so many more delightful brainteasers.
Its a very fun deduction-narrative game, but it finally falls flat by its tedious structure of getting the point and plot, but repeating the same action of trial and error by correcting adjectives, that feels like a hit and miss.

I love how so many little details eventually come back around to prominence, as more and more lines of connection are drawn in ways that feel natural and interesting. The detective mechanics and the story work together to paint a vivid picture of a world in which fate is not determined by individuals with grand and intricate plans, but by the chaotic interplay between disparate people, each with their own separate goals and motives, each unwittingly yet inevitably becoming the twist in another's story.
