For those of you who have known me for any period of time.. or it may be more accurate to say, for those who I trust enough to speak without reservation, you would know I have an incredibly complicated history with Sen no Kiseki IV. This game, since its release, has been the most divisive entry in this entire franchise for me. It should be of no surprise to anyone that I live, breathe and thrive off of Kiseki so I would imagine my words have some weight. However, I am writing this due to my selfish desire to leave some record of my thoughts in this infinite sea of data. Ultimately, when Sen no Kiseki IV is good, it is some of the greatest moments this series has ever produced but when it is bad, it is arguably the worst. But- I'm not really going to talk about that. I had an entire review written up to air out my thoughts regarding this entry in the franchise and- I think I'm alright. Genuinely speaking, I have went on for hours and years about how I find masks to be an incredibly contrived plot point that insults both the writers and the readers. I have went on about how I feel the "curse" is a joke outside of the main narrative. And I have went on about how I feel regarding some of the other pertinent negatives I experienced playing this game. But I want to talk about what I liked because I want to gush about my passion for this franchise, as I usually do. To begin I would like to mention shifting the protagonist role to Juna. This was the best decision Falcom had made. Putting my absolute love and adoration for Juna aside, she best embodies both Lloyd and Rean's spirit. She possesses Lloyd's will to surmount even the most impossible of barriers and Rean's will to relentlessly move forward into the unknown. She is the bridge between Crossbell and Erebonia, and between Class VII and the SSS. She possesses the staunch stubbornness seen in Rean and Lloyd and the unrelenting drive to do the right thing which is precisely what Zemuria needed come Sen 4. To this end her desire to act, which has been shown repeatedly in Sen 3 stemming from her desire to protect Crossbell, snaps Class VII out of their stupor and pushes everyone to action. This allows the narrative to shift focus to New Class VII and provides them an opportunity to demonstrate their growth as Rean's students. I adore this shift in dynamic and feel it adds a breath of fresh air to the story. Of course, I am bias because this means more Juna and you can never get enough of Juna. The last detail I would like to eagerly mention is the world-building and lore. Sen IV does an excellent job of executing on the lore we have been provided so far. I would even say this is when the game is at its greatest. Eryn is one of, if not, my favorite town in Kiseki. Saint Gral Labyrinth is one of my favorite dungeons. Hexen Breed are absolutely rich in culture and background and Eryn serves as an excellent hub for that first portion of the game to say nothing of the OST. Additional locations and their associated tracks are also simply beautiful, Alster, Osgiliath Basin, Tuatha de Danann, Sanctuaries, etc. etc. etc. all are wonderfully crafted and execute well on the "magic" aspect of Erebonia. It is difficult to find fault in this as there is passion and purpose behind each location in this game. I genuinely love the mythical, fantastical aspect of Erebonia and deeply adore how Sen IV melds such fantasy into the narrative. Additionally, it must be said that Act III and beyond in Sen IV are wonderful. The conclusion of Lianne and Rutger's stories, the determination and resolution demonstrated by Duvalie and Fie, the assault on the Pales and final confrontations at Tuatha de Danaan were all enthralling. Final chapter does an excellent job of tying up loose ends and bringing closure to Liberl as well as Elie's stories. And I think this is the important part. Every moment from Act III onwards, aside from those involving the absolutely inane masks, feels deserved, deliberate and satisfactory. It is filled with a genuine desire to bring to conclusion everything this series has been building towards and pave a new path for future entries. In this game, we see the culmination of two years of Class VII's struggle. Two years of pain, grief, sadness, anger, hate, pity and all the other messy emotions binding us to our humanity. We witness the realization of Olivert's dream and the conclusion of so many stories within Erebonia. As Sara mentions, and as Emma has mentioned previously, Class VII truly is the greatest class and they embody such pure determination and hope as they make their way into the future you can only cheer for them. And to that end, the emotion this entry provokes, the genuine familial bond demonstrated between Class VII and their desire to become the foundation of the world is nothing short of perfection. And I will never not be grateful for being able to witness such a beautiful story. Class VII is the best class.

Вот я и завершил всю квадрологию Trails of Cold Steel IV.
/!\ SPOILER WARNING FOR COLD STEEL 3 AND 4 /!\ To this day I still don't understand what the vision was with this game, and how this script was somehow greenlighted. Multiple hundreds of hours of build up for this game to deliver in the absolute worst way possible. The plot itself and it's execution is EXTREMELY wacky. Multiple characters turned into caricatures of themselves, some that don't even get their awaited character development AT ALL. Female characters don't even get the freedom to have character development by themselves in bonding events without Rean stealing their own growth and screen time, because they wanted to accommodate for romances (WHILE SOME OF THEM ARE MINORS MIND YOU) that didn't even manage to feel a little satisfying. (I would even go as far as calling it blatant misogyny) Themes from the previous Cold Steel entries, like the class system dilemma, do not even show up ONCE, when it was highlighted as one of the core struggles of Erebonia. All because they chose to represent the history of this country through a "metaphoric" curse extremely heavy handed; that does NOT get the point across whatsoever, unless you try to read into it extensively (quite shameful for a series of FOUR GAMES to build into it). Because of that, side quest were extremely gutted and are at their absolute worst in the series, and I don't think any Trails game will ever be able to top that. Rean, who had one of the of the most satisfying growths in CS1 and 2, and had an extremely promising setup in CS3 (in theory), becomes COMPLETELY LOBOTOMIZED. The protagonist goes through a complete regression, which could've been fine, if temporary, but lasts until the near end of the Finale. Not to mention, this game tries it's HARDEST to make this guy not take any accountability for his actions, even if he was constrained, all the Class VII characters in this game do nothing besides babysitting him and saying "Rean..." over and over again, was genuinely rage inducing. That and the fact that nothing was done about the whole regression, and that Crow, who had a way better setup for it, got completely disregarded aside from his (MISSABLE) last character note, can only leave the most painful taste in my mouth, and was frankly enough to almost disgust me of the entire character that is Rean. The second worst character of this arc I want to talk about is the quintessential "Potential Woman" of this series by a long shot, Juna Crawford. A character with the most promising introduction of the arc, being actively hostile towards Rean and echoing the conflict caused by Crossbell's annexation, which shines, more or less, in Chapter 2 of CS3. Which amounted to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING after this very chapter, everything and everyone acts like it never happened and Juna turns from a really interesting character to a mindless bot, that always acts optimistic, and that is put "at the center of New Class VII" in the most forced, fakest way possible; and that, from this point on, does NOTHING except undermining other characters, with the most blatant example being Ash in CS4's Prologue in Hamel. Out of all characters, I think the character that represents the mediocrity of CS3 and especially 4's writing, is without a doubt Juna Crawford, that I've sadly yet found a way to enjoy despite my earnest efforts. Ouroboros, despite how much I wanna like them, goes through their biggest credibility loss in both of those games, by doing absolutely nothing besides messing around and vagueposting for absolutely no reason besides keeping the "Fool" appearance. The only interesting thing Ouroboros related in both of those games, is Arianrhod's own plan getting revealed (and absolutely butchered in her own dungeon because of how abysmal the quality of the dialogues were), and McBurn acting rogue and mentioning what he discovered about his origins and the world beyond Zemuria (which, despite being a great scene, feels like an incredibly heavy handed lore dump if you only take into account CS4 and not the games after it.). Which for the main villain organization, and compared to a game like Sky SC SPECIFICALLY, is honestly nothing less than shameful. But despite everything negative I have to say about every other characters there is in this game. I instead wanna focus on what this game actually managed to do right. To me, there were 5 characters who particularly stood out in terms of writing quality : Rufus, Jusis and Ash, which quite frankly, I cannot even find a weakness in their writing in this game somehow; and Osborne and Duvalie, which despite the abysmal plot, basically fulfilled their roles as much as they could, and did it quite well. I do also think that the final stretch (from the point of no return to the end), was really nice despite it all. And the music and gameplay we're still good besides some stinkers here and there in the music department (although that's only a recurring theme from CS3 onward) However, I sadly did not find a single redeeming quality in any of the other moments. The other characters I didn't mention range from being absolutely horrible to passable. I genuinely think that, if it wasn't for Reverie's godlike salvaging, on top of being an awesome game altogether; and Daybreak, which was a very needed turnover from the Cold Steel arc, and one of my favorite experiences in gaming as a whole, I would've lost my passion for this series. And the worst part is, after playing both of CS3 and CS4, I've yet to recover the same amount of passion I felt when I was playing from FC through CS2, which is nothing less than a tragedy, for a series that I was so obsessed with.
赤了3部的史,打完闪4比鹿出来还爽
Seriously? This game is the last straw for me. Cold Steel 1 was extremely boring, cold steel 2 was SIGNIFICANTLY boring, cold steel 3 wasn't as boring but at least was a bit more fun to sit through. This game? I prefer to review the Trails games after i've beaten the story since a lot of the time these games can have absolute droughts or low periods that reward the player for their dedication later in the game. This game? This game, after recovering from a massive cliffhanger the third game leaves, is so obvious they just made this game for the sake of padding time and resources. I've never experienced more deus ex machinas, more "not so fast!", more "this guy died... but not really!", more non-existent tension followed by dramatics that I am supposed to care about when this game hasn't done a thing to give me that reason. I'm hoping to come back and edit this review with better details. I'm at the end of Act 2 and I'm so violently bored I had to put this review out; they really weren't kidding, The entirety of Cold Steel's arc has been sad to experience after going through the previous 2 arcs following it up with much better praise and optimism. -- I got the true ending, this was worse than I thought! This game is just full of things that add up to culminate every annoying thing Falcom could conjure. Anything that wasn't a problem or wasn't as big of a problem, got exaggeratedly blown up in this game and sometimes Cold Steel's games as a whole. This game in particular has everything boring front loaded up until you're maybe at the 65% mark in the story, and then from then on things do pick up, but that's far too long. This game is a massive waste of time: -Randomly in dialogue there will be soft-cutscenes where you wont be able to advance dialogue manually, auto-advance was already a thing - stop it -Too many segments overstay their welcome, the entirety of act 2 until the very end was the most pointless waste of time possibly made - it nearly killed my interest multiple times -The story is some safely bottom scraped pack of cheeks. Everything works out, and I do mean nearly everything, very little consequences are had for a country that went to war with the rest of the continent, death in this game is almost comical, i shouldn't even be mad considered you can revive people with an item and magic. -Battles get old quick in this game, enemies have massive speed stats, so their turns come often unless you invest into always buffing, enemies will cast arts/crafts and you can impede them, but they'll just recast it and immediately get their turn again to attack you anyway - wonderful design. -Bosses, after spending time and resources to break them, will recover their break gauge when their HP hits 50% and ignore turn order to recover in the middle of your character's phases to enhance and get HP back, Cold Steel 2 just couldn't stay dead with its mechanics huh -The whole cast (which there's too many of) circlejerks to Rean -There's a true ending lmfao. which has the REAL final boss behind it, you HAVE to waste your time getting the lame ending along with researching into how to get the true ending's requirements which is absolute dogwater. 4/10. I uninstalled this immediately. I am waiting to hop into Reverie, this was just that bad.
Pacing is a slog, barely anything relevant happens on act 2. by the time you reach the final chapter you want to be done with the game... this is making me want to drop the series, the ending is not that satisfying I can't recommend this after how amazing CS3 was. it's a good and fun game but in my opinion not a great culmination for a very interesting story.
This isn't just a game... it's a true masterpiece... 10 / 10 Just buy it, play it, and you'll see what I mean.
mid on mid crimes
Well, Cold Steel was a really long arc, at some point I thought I wouldn't make it to the end. But here I am! This game is peak but only once your reach the end and I'm so glad I got there. I recommend it only to people that have played all previous games. It was hard for me to finish at times because of the poor narrative pacing, which honesly made me want to throw up sometimes, but the finale was really great and a strong conclusion to Rean and class VII's story.
结局又是一个大坑,不愧是你,坑之轨迹,注水之轨迹,能在我四十岁前完结吗
