Hailed as one of the largest, longest and most meticulously detailed turn-based JRPG series of all time, this first chapter in the ongoing Trails saga sets the stage for what's quickly become Ys developer Nihon Falcom's most popular and best-selling franchise in their entire 30+ year history.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.43/day in the week to Sep 3 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It took me a long while to finally finish it some of the early parts are really hard to get through in my opinion but the pay off is well worth it
Great game
Первое олдовое jRPG, которое я прошел до конца и с удовольствием. Отлично играется на Стимдеке. В предвкушении продолжения истории этого мира.

51 hours of pure goodness. It took me quite a while to get used to the old graphics, but if you can overcome that, then you'll have a good time with Trails in the Sky. You'll want to remap some buttons to make things easier on PC. After playing the remake demo, I dusted off this game that's been sitting in my Steam library for so long and finally completed it. Totally worth it. If you started the series with Cold Steel 1 like me, then you'll know that endings will make you want to immediately buy and play the next game. Trails in the Sky First Chapter is no different. Onto the Second Chapter!
Great game but it has a pretty bad map
fantastic game well worth a play!
The beginning of the greatest JRPG series your friends have never heard of. A little rough around the edges given that it is a 21 year old game, but hey that's what the remake is for. Do it for Bestelle.
This is the first game out of the Trails in the Sky trilogy, which means it's the one you should start with. It's a wonderful oldschool JRPG that still holds up very well today. The music is really good, and the graphics are excellent. Once you get used to the artstyle you might even find that they managed to make many scenes surprisingly cinematic considering the limitations of having 2D sprites with a fixed perspective moving on a 3D background. The story is rather slow-paced. There's lots of dialogue and worldbuilding and loooots of running around talking to NPCs. It's great. In fact, I would say that the way they gave each NPC a small story that progresses as the main story advances is the game's greatest strength. Every single time the story progresses all the townspeople will progress their own stories as well. That means you will sometimes spend an exhausting amount of time time running though the same place over and over again to see what new thing they have to say. It's very much worth it. The combat, however, is a bit of a mixed bag. I played the game on Hard difficulty, and sometimes it was flat out painful (and not in a good way). When you start the game you'll notice that enemies in the overworld will rush at you to start a battle, and if they hit any of your party from behind they will start the battle with an advantage, which will far too often mean that they'll move before you can do anything and oneshot one of your party members. And if you're unlucky enough to have a NPC accompanying you it's even worse, since them being defeated means it's a game over. Restarting the same battle over and over again hoping for better RNG to avoid an instant game over is not very fun, and the speedup button only makes these situations harder to avoid. Luckily it becomes much less of a problem as you progress through the game. I would especially recommend equipping the upgrade that stops enemies from sprinting straight at you in the overworld as soon as you get it. The battle system itself is fine. Not amazing but not bad either. And if you do find it frustrating there is an option that will slightly lower the difficulty every time you have to retry a battle. I did not use that functionality in this game, but I did turn it on in the sequel and ended up enjoying that game more than I otherwise would because of it. It's something to keep in mind. If you want to you can play this game with just a mouse, or otherwise with a keyboard or controller. It can also run on surprisingly old hardware. Even an old laptop with integrated graphics should run it just fine (it did for me, although I did have to use the DX8 mode instead of DX9). I would highly recommend you check this game out if you're interested, and it's sequels too. Or you could try out the 2025 remake if you'd prefer that.
