Hailed as one of the largest, longest and most meticulously detailed turn-based JRPG series of all time, this first chapter in the ongoing Trails saga sets the stage for what's quickly become Ys developer Nihon Falcom's most popular and best-selling franchise in their entire 30+ year history.

Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.43/day in the week to Sep 3 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

TLDR; I wish I could give this a thumbs up and down because the game itself is great. I am giving this a thumbs down for the PC version, though on the Steam Deck I would give this a thumbs up. The game is very charming and the story is really good. It is older and is a bit rough around the edges and missing some quality of life features found in more modern games. There is a lot of text but I went in treating this as a Visual Novel JRPG. The world and character building is some of the best I've played. I am giving this a thumbs down for the PC version, because I have had quite a few problems trying to run the game. First, when I loaded the game initially it started in full screen and it had strange artifacts and looked very bad. I had to play the game in windowed mode to fix it and then that was fine. Next, my biggest issue was with the trying to use a controller. Sometimes it loaded flawlessly and the controller worked, other times not. I have uninstalled the game, reinstalled the game, loaded the game from the configuration tool, enabled steam controller, disabled controller, etc. I tried a both an Xbox and PS5 controller to see if it was just one or the other, but both had issues being detected. Once detected though, it would work fine that play session. I don't have experience just trying to use the keyboard for controls. Lastly, I had one save file get corrupted but thanks to others in the community, I learned there is an autosave that saved me literally hours of gameplay. With all that said, I finally ended up just installing the game on my Steam Deck and it worked right away. Honestly, it played better on the Steam Deck than my PC. I didn't have any graphical issues and no problems with it detecting the Steam Deck controller. The text is a little small, but for me it was readable without using the magnifier. I didn't measure the battery life but I played recently about an hour and the battery went from 100% to 86%. All in all, the Steam Deck was a great experience but I would almost recommend waiting for the remaster for the PC.

I actually like the game, but I wouldn't recommend it. It hasn't aged well. It's far too slow of a burn. I think it might be better to just pick the series up X games in, where the story and game mechanics aren't so bare bones.
do you like it when every single debuff gives your characters damage at the end of the turn randomly not being able to attack or cast magic randomly being frozen then this hot turd is for you. im barely through chapter 1 and im already wanting to throw the computer out the window on nibel pass the freezing debuff from every attacking enemy is so pointlessly over the top it makes me wonder if this is worth playing. brilliant game design making running anywhere takes an hour and random monster encounters when you have low health.... truly love only being able to properly heal in town. it screams im not final fantasy but new doesnt mean good.
