The Last Door feels like someone took a Victorian horror novel, dunked it into a pixel-art blender and somehow the result still manages to crawl under your skin. The atmosphere is so thick you could spread it on toast. Sound design? Absolutely carrying the team. The puzzles occasionally gave me that classic adventure game moment of staring at my screen like a confused raccoon, but nothing rage quit worthy. If you enjoy slow burn horror that whispers in your ear instead of screaming in your face, this one hits the spot. [8.5/10]
The only game I've ever played to properly capture the true 'fear of the unknown' quality of Lovecraftian horror. No guns, no generic tentacles, no jump scares... just a winding, labyrinthine story of dread, madness and dark science. Oh and the score kicks raw ass.

Just play the game, absolute cinema from start to finish
I remember playing this game on Kongregate back in the day, when Flash games were plentiful. The minimalist graphics are great, but the story or puzzles are nothing special. It's just a few short episodes that are alright to play through. 2 playthroughs, 16/16 achievements.
Great sound design and music. Unfortunately, the pixel art makes objects hard to distinguish.
This game really surprised me with it's ability to capture the gravity and atmosphere of each new situation and environment with very limited graphics. It almost as if the graphics are actually helping the atmosphere. Would definitely recommend if you point and click horror
A short narrative point and click that leans heavily into its atmosphere. I felt that jangly jumpscare chords were used too much and it took away from the oppressive dread that most of the game has, which is unfortunate since that is its strongest point. The puzzles are mostly fine and not very complicated.
An engaging Lovecraftian horror story. Like all Lovecraft stories, the ending is a little anticlimactic. I wish there were fewer jumpscares in the last episode, but overall would recommend.
This game is good. And keep in mind, this review is only for this game, not taking the sequel into consideration. The story is inspired by the works of writters like Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe, not as good, but decent enough to intrigue and introduce you to this world. The story doesn't end in this game, so i'll let to speak more about it on the second one's review. The pixel art style in this game is... kinda ugly. Not ugly "poorly done", but ugly "small game made by a small studio with backers support in 2014". So the pixel art is simplistic and ugly, but i can understand why and even see some charm in it here and there. Also, this is the studio who made Blasphemous around 5 years later, so it's crazy seeing how much they improved in such a short amount of time. The gameplay is, well, you point and click at things, that's it. There are puzzles in this game, obviously, but they're mostly just fine, except for a few ones which can get annoying due to their crazy solutions.
Like one where you need a red lamp, so you grab a normal lamp and cover it with blood from a deer corpse or one where you have to put a tear on one of the Virgin Mary's eyes and reflect light on it in order to fake a miracle. ffs
This game has a very nice mechanic. If you already entered a room, you can double click it to enter immediately without having to wait for the character to walk there. But you can't highlight interactibles, what a bummer. Recommended because what's in this game is good, a bit rough around the edges, but good, especially considering its scope.
The Last Door - Collector's Edition is a very well made game, released as four episodes. The main strengths of the game are the music, the audio design, featuring unsettling ambient sounds, and the story. The puzzles are fun, and can be solved logically. I recommend this to point and click adventure fans.
