tl;dr
pretentious, terrible, pseudo-smart ChatGPT-Script that made me want to take a break from the FMV-genre altogether
Overview
You travel to the the Isle Tide Hotel to rescue your estranged daughter who has become entangled with a strange cult-like group. Interaction with its staff and guests leads to gradually uncovering that mysterious things are happening with everything seemingly being connected.
The Good Stuff
The main character looks like Gareth Southgate, which is unintentionally amusing and probably the most memorable thing about him. Also, Richard Brake is in the game. Unfortunately, that fact alone already exhausts most of the praise. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3584611839 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3590835563
The Sorta-Kinda-Grinds-My-Gears-Stuff
Richard Brake’s role is surprisingly small, which feels like a massive waste. More irritating, however, is the game’s tendency to produce different outcomes even when taking the exact same path through the story. Decisions feel inconsistent and unreliable, making it hard to tell whether your choices matter or if the game is simply rolling dice behind the scenes.
The Atrociously-Bad Stuff
The writing is convoluted and painfully pretentious, as if it was generated by a chatbot instructed to “sound deep.” The acting is uniformly terrible, the story is incoherent, and the game constantly mistakes obscurity for intelligence. Instead of building tension or intrigue, it becomes exhausting and frustrating. It’s not unsettling in a good way, it’s just plain terrible.
Achievement-Hunter-Things
Guided and rather easy, but partially bugged. Some achievements may or may not unlock as intended, which adds an extra layer of irritation to an already unpleasant experience.
Conclusion
The Isle Tide Hotel tries very hard to be clever, artsy, and profound and fails on all fronts. What remains is a pretentious mess with bad acting, a terrible story, and the uncanny feeling that the script was written by an overconfident algorithm. Made me take some time off from cheap FMV productions.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Jul 26 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I would say this is one of not so good FMV games I played. Story makes no sence, acting is not good. Not good at all. After completing it I still do not understand what I saw - it looks like some random scenes assembled together with no intention to create some solid story. No, this is no for me.
One of the most boring and flavorless game by Wales Interactive. QUite short story with no plot twists. There are better and more interesting FMV games.
The Isle Tide Hotel is a live action interactive mystery that feels like a surreal blend of Wes Anderson aesthetics and a high stakes cult thriller. You play as an absent father who must infiltrate a strange hotel during the final night of a mysterious cult meeting to save his estranged daughter. The game is filmed entirely with a real cast and sets, which gives the experience a tangible, cinematic quality that traditional CGI often struggles to match. Every performance is intentionally heightened, contributing to the unsettling and dreamlike atmosphere of the hotel. I found the set design particularly striking; the hotel feels like a character itself, filled with eccentric guests and hidden corridors that keep you guessing about what is actually real. The core of the gameplay revolves around the decisions you make during conversations and the items you choose to interact with. What makes this title stand out is how significantly the story can diverge. Depending on your choices, you might find yourself deep in the heart of the cult rituals or uncovering a completely different conspiracy involving the hotel staff. The flowchart for this game is massive, and I was surprised by how much new footage I discovered on my second and third playthroughs. It is a game designed for multiple sittings. Because many of the paths are mutually exclusive, you are practically forced to go back and try different personalities for the protagonist. Whether you play as a desperate parent or a calculating investigator, the world reacts to your tone. It is a slow burn mystery that rewards patience and careful observation. 8/10. It is a unique FMV experience that leans heavily into its oddness. If you enjoy narrative puzzles where the solution isn't always obvious and the atmosphere is thick with mystery, this hotel is worth checking into. Just be careful who you trust in the hallways; everyone there has a secret to hide.
Aunty already: ✔ sweating like pasar at 12pm ✔ holding ikan but judging FMV game ✔ emotionally disappointed but still talking non-stop Let’s go.
🔥🐟 STEAM REVIEW: The Isle Tide Hotel “Aunty Check-In, Regret Check-Out” Edition
OI— You come here. Stand properly. Don’t lean on the ice box. This fish fresher than this game story.
🏨 FIRST IMPRESSION (AUNTY ARRIVE HOTEL)
Aunty open The Isle Tide Hotel right… Thought I getting: 👉 creepy mystery 👉 cult horror 👉 big brain detective 👉 “WAH plot twist” experience End up I get: 👉 people talking nonsense 👉 weird hotel guests 👉 me staring at screen like 👉 “eh… what is happening ah???”
🎬 GAMEPLAY (OR… WATCHING NETFLIX WITH RESPONSIBILITY)
This one ah… You don’t “play” game. You watch. Then suddenly: 👉 timer appear 👉 choose option 👉 panic 👉 press something 👉 pray it makes sense Then next scene: 👉 STILL CONFUSED Game mostly just FMV — interactive movie style, more watching than playing Aunty: “EH I pay money to watch drama AND do decision making ah???”
🧠 STORY (BIG IDEA, SMALL DELIVERY)
Story supposed to be: 👉 missing daughter 👉 mysterious cult 👉 secret hotel Sounds power right? Reality: 👉 people speak in riddles 👉 nobody explain anything properly 👉 everything feel half-cooked Even reviewers say the game introduce big ideas but don’t fully explore them Aunty watching like: “Why everyone talking like fortune cookie???”
🧍 CHARACTERS (AIYO… ALL WEIRD ONE)
Every person in hotel: 👉 talk funny 👉 behave weird 👉 act like got secret 👉 but actually just annoying Some reviews say characters are confusing and annoying, even embarrassing sometimes Aunty: “Why you all cannot talk normally one??”
😴 PACING (SLOWER THAN MELTING ICE BOX)
Game pacing ah… Wah. Legendary slow. You sit there: 👉 watch scene 👉 wait 👉 watch more 👉 WAIT SOME MORE Long stretches got almost no interaction Aunty already: ✔ sell 5kg ikan ✔ argue with 2 customer ✔ drink 1 kopi Game still explaining NOTHING.
🧩 PUZZLES (FRUSTRATION LEVEL: HIGH)
Got puzzle right? You think: “Okay finally gameplay.” NO. You get: 👉 confusing 👉 repetitive 👉 same scene repeat again and again One maze section especially damn annoying and frustrating Aunty: “EH I walking hotel or IKEA showroom?? SAME ROOM SAME ROOM SAME ROOM???”
😂 COMEDY (UNINTENTIONAL BEST FEATURE)
Game trying to be: 👉 deep 👉 mysterious 👉 artistic But end up: 👉 awkward 👉 confusing 👉 accidentally funny Dialogue so serious until become comedy. Aunty laughing: “THIS SUPPOSED TO BE SCARY OR TED TALK???”
💀 BIGGEST PROBLEM
This game biggest sin is: 👉 NOT BAD ENOUGH TO BE FUN 👉 NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE MEMORABLE Even harsh reviews say: 👉 “not even funny bad, just bad” That one very painful category. Like: 👉 nasi lemak no sambal 👉 teh tarik no susu 👉 life no meaning
👍 OKAY LAH (AUNTY TRY BE FAIR)
Okay okay… Not everything terrible: ✔ acting sometimes decent ✔ set design quite nice ✔ concept interesting ✔ got multiple endings But all this like: 👉 nice fish 👉 but you cook wrong
👎 REALITY CHECK (AUNTY REMOVE FILTER)
❌ gameplay minimal ❌ story confusing ❌ pacing slow ❌ characters annoying ❌ payoff not worth it Even critics say the game fails to fully capture attention despite good premise
🐟 AUNTY COMPARISON
This game like buying fish: 👉 Look fresh outside 👉 Inside… hmm… soft already Not rotten. But you also not excited.
⭐ FINAL AUNTY RATING
👉 5.5 / 10 Malaysia scale: 🐟 edible 🌶 no kick 💤 sleepy 🤨 confusing
🧺 FINAL CONCLUSION (AUNTY CHECK-OUT)
The Isle Tide Hotel is: 👉 more movie than game 👉 more confusion than mystery 👉 more talking than doing You finish game like: “EH… that’s it ah???”
🐟 LAST WORD (AUNTY SHOUTING AT YOU)
“YOU WANT CHECK-IN OR NOT??” My advice: 👉 buy on BIG sale 👉 play once 👉 don’t expect genius
An utterly strange and fascinating FMV. Without giving too much away about the plot, you have arrived at the Isle Tide Hotel, looking for a girl, but you will have to unravel the further reasons that led to you arriving there, and figure out just what is going on in this strange place. A well-executed mystery that is designed to be played through multiple times, to begin to piece together the plot. My first playthrough I was utterly perplexed by so many of the events, but I liked how further playthroughs gave you a clearer and clearer picture of what was going on. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but I certainly enjoyed myself, and enjoyed unraveling the events.
FMV : Folie Mentale Visuelle ?
It's a good game, I liked it. I understand why it has a lot of negative reviews – a lot can be confusing after just one playthrough, and that's something people don't like. This game requires multiple playthroughs, with different endings, to fully grasp the game. I also couldn't find a full guide (there are walkthrough videos on YouTube, but they don't cover all the achievements), which might also be a turn-off for some players. I completed the game with all the achievements (it took me over 11 hours – for comparison, completing "The Complex" and "Mia and the Dragon Princess" with all the achievements took me about 5 hours, and completing "Night Book" with all the achievements took me about 4 hours), and I don't regret the time spent. I recommend purchasing it and playing it multiple times.
I've played other Wales Games, this one of their worst. Pass on this even if you've enjoyed other of their titles.
