Takes a long, long time to build up but the payoff is some of the best writing of all time, not even confined to video games, just in general amazing writing
J'apprécie vraiment la licence Ace Attorney, et l'histoire de ce spin-off est excellente. Mais il y a un énorme éléphant dans la pièce qui m'a régulièrement sorti du jeu : le décalage complet entre la gravité des thèmes abordés et la lâcheté de la direction artistique. Tout le scénario de The Great Ace Attorney repose sur le choc des cultures et le racisme de l'époque victorienne. En tant que Japonais à Londres, on subit en permanence le mépris et la xénophobie des Anglais, qui nous rabaissent et nous traitent d'insulaires arriérés. Le texte insiste lourdement sur notre différence. Le problème ? Visuellement, c'est du foutage de gueule. Il n'y a aucune différence physique entre les personnages japonais et britanniques. Les développeurs n'assument pas du tout leurs origines. Le soi-disant "choc des cultures" se limite littéralement à l'accoutrement (des kimonos d'un côté, des capes et des hauts-de-forme de l'autre). Un des exemples les plus flagrants est celui de Natsume Soseki. Amusez-vous à comparer une photo historique du vrai romancier avec son design en jeu : ça n'a absolument rien à voir. Sous prétexte d'en faire un comic relief naïf, ils lui ont gommé toute caractéristique asiatique et lui ont collé des yeux plus gros que ceux de Sherlock Holmes. Zéro yeux fins, zéro phénotype caractéristique, aucune fidélité. Quand le cœur de ton intrigue repose sur la stigmatisation de l'étranger, c'est vraiment gênant de refuser de dessiner des traits ethniques distincts et réalistes. Les Anglais passent leur temps à pointer du doigt notre différence, mais à l'écran, on est face à des clones avec les mêmes visages de manga lisses. C'est un excellent jeu d'enquête, mais cette dissonance ludo-narrative est ridicule. Si vous voulez traiter du racisme institutionnel, ayez au moins la fierté et le courage de dessiner vos personnages de façon authentique.

Honestly as I played through the first of 2 games I though it was a good Ace Attorney game but, after finishing the second one I can confidentally say this is a phenomenal Ace Attorney game that had me absolutely ecstatic that I had finally given it a playthrough and it will definitely be remembered fondly and hopefully given another playthrough in the future 10/10 would OBJECTION again

this is the best game in the series btw. it's ridiculous in every way and exactly why I love ace attorney so much. if you like the other games but have problems with some of the writing/pacing/graphics I promise this fixes everything. besides the usual copaganda lmaooo. when I picked this up I figured it could never compare to the original trilogy or aa4 but these characters have taken over my heart so bad. everything about it is a delight. you should play this game right now!!
