Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 11: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

The Escapists is a captivating indie title that cleverly combines simulation, strategy, and stealth to deliver a unique prison break experience. Developed by Mouldy Toof Studios, the game offers a refreshing twist on the escape genre by placing players in the role of a prisoner determined to break free from a variety of increasingly complex penitentiaries. Its blend of daily routines, crafting mechanics, and stealth-based gameplay creates an engrossing and challenging environment that keeps players strategizing and adapting throughout each prison stint. At the heart of The Escapists is the intricate balance between blending in and planning a daring escape. Players must adhere to strict prison schedules, attending roll calls, work shifts, meals, and exercise times while simultaneously gathering resources and crafting tools essential for their breakout plans. This duality of routine and rebellion adds depth to the gameplay, requiring players to manage time effectively and make calculated decisions about when to obey and when to seize opportunities. The attention to detail in simulating prison life is impressive, making the environment feel alive and immersive. One of the standout features of the game is its robust crafting system. Players can combine everyday objects—such as spoons, sheets, and cleaning supplies—into a variety of useful tools, weapons, and escape equipment. This creative element encourages experimentation and problem-solving, as some escape plans require assembling complex gadgets like makeshift drills, lock picks, or disguises. Crafting often involves risk, as gathering materials and working on contraptions must be done discreetly to avoid suspicion from guards or other inmates. This mechanic enhances the sense of tension and accomplishment when a well-executed plan finally comes to fruition. The prison environments themselves are diverse and increasingly challenging. From basic facilities with minimal security to high-risk prisons laden with surveillance and patrols, each location presents unique layouts and obstacles. Players must study the daily routines of guards and inmates alike, learning patrol routes and identifying blind spots. The game rewards careful observation and patience, as rash actions often lead to lockdowns, confiscated items, or violent confrontations. Combat is possible but risky, and often the best strategy involves stealth and manipulation rather than brute force. Visually, The Escapists adopts a charming pixel-art style that lends a lighthearted tone to an otherwise intense setting. The simple graphics are functional and clear, allowing players to quickly identify objects, NPCs, and key areas. The nostalgic aesthetic complements the game's strategic depth, creating an accessible yet engaging atmosphere. The soundtrack and sound effects are minimalist but effective, reinforcing the game’s mood without overwhelming the player. Multiplayer functionality adds another layer of enjoyment, allowing friends to cooperate or compete in orchestrating escapes. Working together to coordinate plans, share resources, and distract guards enhances the social aspect and replayability of the game. This mode brings fresh dynamics to the core gameplay loop, making it not just a solitary puzzle but a shared experience. While The Escapists is highly praised for its originality and depth, it can sometimes suffer from a steep learning curve and repetitive elements. Early stages may feel slow as players familiarize themselves with routines and mechanics, and some trial-and-error is necessary to perfect escape plans. However, these challenges contribute to the overall satisfaction of breaking free, as every successful escape feels hard-earned and rewarding. In summary, The Escapists stands out as an inventive and engaging strategy-simulation game that transforms the prison break trope into a thoughtful, multifaceted challenge. Its combination of routine management, crafting, stealth, and strategic planning provides a rich gameplay experience that balances tension and creativity. Whether playing solo or with friends, The Escapists offers a uniquely satisfying journey of cunning and perseverance that will captivate players who enjoy thoughtful, methodical gameplay and the thrill of outsmarting their captors. Is it really so damn hard to NOT spread your game files everywhere and just stay in your folder? And even if you don't stay in your steam folder, would it kill you to at least make your savegame subfolder in the "my games" folder that has been around since Windows Vista (so well before this game was even conceived) instead of the trucking documents folder? This is an automatic thumbsdown from me and putting the dev on my ignore list, regardless of gameplay. Although this would've been a thumbsdown for gameplay as well. No clue what to do, how to do it, and the controls don't work.
Nothing will ever match the fear and excitement felt during your first escape attempt in The Escapists. You've spent hours gathering resources and plotting an escape for it to all come down to 1 moment, and what a moment that is. There's also a brilliant soundtrack and great pixel art. It kinda makes me want to go to prison... Wait, forget I said that... The only negative I can give is that the game feels repetitive after the 6 main prisons, but it's still nice to have bonus prisons.
This is a game I could see becoming more enjoyable with many hours and a few guides open. The main problem for me is that the game feels extremely difficult to learn. To craft anything, you would need to play hours to get crafting notes and/or have a crafting guide open. Even with a guide open, every mistake is painfully punishing. Even in the "very easy" prison, if you are found doing anything suspicious, you lose a significant part of your progress and are sent to solitary. If you start trying to escape using a specific method and learn you need something new but are already outside at night, you are almost certainly getting caught. There are some easier methods, but the thought of starting one after being caught feels like a chore. This is a game I truly wish I could love but could not get into. I also have The Escapists 2, and hopefully that provides me more enjoyment.
