I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this game. It's been compared to XCOM, but I think "Into the Breach" is the more apt comparison. You have full knowledge of all enemy actions; you can plan your own actions accordingly, and if it doesn't work out, just undo and try another approach. This sounds like it would make the game easy, but the cleverly designed enemies still create interesting puzzles. It also means that you get to set your own pace for the gameplay. Combat is elevated further by combining abilities of multiple characters to break the game. Most of this is enabled by the knockback mechanic, which allows you to reposition enemies (and allies) to set off small Rube Goldberg machines of death. Pulling these off feels satisfying and has real gameplay benefits, like free actions and restored mana. The story initially lulls you in with silliness, then turns surprisingly dark and deals with some heavy topics. Clearly a lot of thought and heart went into it. I especially enjoyed learning about the moments of crisis that first "unlocked" each character's magic abilities. They are clever twists on classic tropes and make the main cast feel like fleshed-out and multifaceted characters.

I got this as part of a Jingle Jam collection, so I went in with no idea what to expect. What I found was an absolute gem. The tactics-meets-puzzle mechanics are unique, engaging, and encourage creativity; and the story and writing are at once amusing and genuinely compelling. All around it feels like the developers had a silly idea and decided they might as well give it the full send. An inspiring act of creativity.
Absolutely amazing game
This is the greatest game of all time. Truthfully, I have gotten so so much joy our of this game. It's characters are cheeky but with great depth, the world is rich and interesting, and it makes learning about the world a part of the plot & the fun. Moreover, the puzzles are so exciting and inventive, and there are so many ways to play the way you want to. And the confidence mechanic? Absolutely magnificent. If you enjoy puzzles in any game, this is the one for you. There's so many reasons to play it back through, leaderboards, extra challenges, and some excellent rewards. The humor is so so good, the characters are alive, and the story is a joy to romp through. Plus it answers the age-old question: what would an army of wizards look like? Defenestration.
Great game, a loved the rewind mechanics and the way the different abilities interact together. Great design and flavor.
Bite-sized turn-based tactics - can't go wrong with that!
I cast DEFENESTRATE! This was fun. Nice tactical combat game that felt like dynamic puzzles. The characters are great too (not counting Steve), and the writing was pretty good, especially the witty dialogue in-between missions. The missions are easy enough to get through, so extra optional challenges were included to spice it up, and it was fun noodling it out. There are also difficulty settings to change things up as well. I will say in the later levels, they throw ALOT at you, but the characters (which can level up their skills) start feeling really overpowered, which is great! Try it out, you might be surprised!
This is an amazing game from an amazing developer. Combat stands out as its best feature. Every level is a puzzle because of your ability to undo any moves from your entire turn, only locking in your moves when you pass the turn. Most characters don't deal much direct damage. Instead, you're supposed to focus on positioning your characters to knock the enemies around, into objects, and out of windows (the developers love a good defenestration). When I started using my characters to push each other around for optimal positioning, I realized the beauty of the system. Beyond that, the world-building and characters are excellent. Wizard spec ops team played straight is excellent from the very beginning. Each character is unique and has an individual voice that shines through in the written dialogue. The one-liners and ongoing gags kept me laughing all the way through to the credits. I trust these developers to make great games. If they chose to make another game in this series, or with similarly creative mechanics, I'd buy it without hesitation.
Incredibly designed tactics game, with a surprising amount of heart and great storytelling!
