Super Panda Adventures

Super Panda Adventures is a relatively basic platformer that combines a barebones RPG (quests and a levelling system) with Metroidvania-inspired item collection and platforming. It sounds good on paper and was actually kind of fun in spurts. Every quest chain involves a pretty ridiculous amount of backtracking where you go to one location in the game and talk to an NPC, oftentimes to be told to go directly to another location and talk to someone again without actually doing anything in between. Like it's often literally just talking to people in different locations back to back to back to back. The quests aren't very engaging either with kind of boring dialogue. Some of them are technically relevant to the plot, but the main story goes so far off the rails by the end of the game I really didn't care too much about what was happening. Each level will have sections of it blocked that you won't be able to access without certain items or abilities, hence the Metroidvania comparisons, but there are also doors that are locked with colored keys just like in Doom or something. Having it as a stage-specific mechanic here and there wouldn't be that bad, but literally every single level in the game has you hunting down keys, and if you hated it in classic FPS games you're going to hate it here too. The levels also have virtually no variety. It's the same enemies and the same platforming everywhere in the game. The only major shake-up comes in the form of some boss fights, but they are very poorly designed a lot of the time. In fact, the end boss is one of the worst ones I've ever seen in a game with completely random attacks that oftentimes left no room to counter or escape. It was pure luck that I even defeated it. At the end of the day I have to ask myself, "Why would I want to play this game?" The story? No. It starts with you trying to track down and save a princess and then turns into Mass Effect with talking animals. The graphics? No. You can draw your own panda in MS Paint and it will probably look just as good. The gameplay? Maybe. I liked the combination of RPG and platformer, but by the end of the game I hated playing it because of how repetitive it was. I adore Metroidvanias as a genre, but they need variety in the exploration and enemies. This game lacks that. I don't hate this game. I don't even think it's necessarily bad. I just felt like I wasted my time playing it, and therefore I don't recommend it.

Для 2014 года игра была нормальной и даже приятной. Сейчас ощущается максимально устаревшей. Играть в неё в 2026 смысла 0. Покупать за такие деньги — тем более.
