More investigation is needed, but this might be peak gaming
I have been on the grind for getting to stage 20 on endless and just upgrading all guns, but this game is tons of fun. There are good guns and there are bad ones, sometimes your enchantments make or break your gun. I didn't know this was an early access game and am excited to see where it goes from here because from everything I have played so far its one of my favorite games due to the meaningful customization of guns and the bosses.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Sulfur is phenomenal, and I seriously cannot believe that it is still in Early Access. I don't mean that in the way of "wtf, this game is STILL in EA? Why?". I'm talking this game is so polished, so packed with features, gameplay elements, replayability and fun that it's baffling how this is still such an early version. Controversial opinion but this might be one of if not my favourite boomer shooter-type I've ever tried. There are so many different weapons, practically limitless combinations of perks/enchantments you can mess around with on those weapons, and so far they all feel so good to use. Each weapon is designed with a lot of attention to detail, and they all have fantastic feel and punch to them. My favourite gunplay has to be in Destiny (particularly hand cannons), and Sulfur unexpectedly tickles that itch with the punch the weapons provide. My only critique is that there isn't a huge variety of weapon attachments that I've found thus far, but I'm hoping this will be addressed in future versions. Art style is super unique and fun. The world is vibrant and retro-y, while enemies and NPCs are represented in 2D sprites, which also have reactive gore depending on the damage they take. It makes for really interesting and varied visuals during gunfights and is just plain cool. As a roguelite it's also insanely addictive. It plays around with RPG and looter-shooter elements, and it all just works really well. The amount of loot you can gather in each run is completely nuts, but it also forces you to make calls on what you actually need and want to take back to the Church (the central hub). The game might seem easy for the first few hours, but this mentality came back round to bite me once I got a bit too comfortable in the Town and ended up being overrun, losing some of my best weapons and armour. Methodical preparation with food/cooking and weapon loadouts is essential, and makes for a fun challenge. Buying Sulfur in Early Access was a risk, but I'm so glad I took it. The dev seems to be really passionate, communicative and fires out updates very regularly. I'm absolutely hooked and I can't wait to see what more gets cooked up.
very unique. love the art style and gameplay.
It's Ok
Fantastic, as if I was exploring a psychiatric patient's idea of hell.

Introduction
A very special game, of a very special genre. To begin, I've never ever seen a dungeon crawler, extraction shooter fps, much less a singleplayer one with decent customization. and I would've never imagined one with such an excellent execution either. SULFUR's artstyle and premise was what captivated me to try the demo, which is incredibly generous and entertaining. I pulled around 32 hours until I got the game on sale. Keep that in mind, my total playtime doesn't account for the demo.
Guns
The gunplay feels, most of the time excellent (however, the dual wielded weapons are quite janky in animations, as in almost every other fps I've ever played, and are far worse performing than other much better alternatives), the gun designs vary from slightly weird to downright unsafe, oddly niche, genius, impractical, slightly stupid and even what you could generally define as cursed. (A couple of them are quite ugly on purpose, and some are so stylish that I keep a pair of them). Regardless of that they always appear to operate as regular, real plausible firearms, and that is what I love the most of them.
Style
The landscapes are in my opinion very variated, both regarding stages and seeds, they're quite pretty too. There's plenty to explore and check out, and they also vary in linearness, if that makes any sense. I also cherish my first reactions with random events, they're either shocking or enjoyable. Or both, highly recommend them. The enemies are quite diverse too, It took me a long time to get them all studied. I wouldn't mind a little more enemies personally, but I'm saying that with 140 hours of gameplay without the demo (not without a bit of shame) I can recall around 20 or perhaps even 30 "species" on the first stage, for instance. Attacks and designs are very distinct too, but the artstyle is always consistent. By now you'll probably have noticed that I've used the word varied quite a lot, and I mean it.
Performance
This game also runs very well on low end hardware with a few adjustments, though I totally wouldn't mind a few more display and video settings to mellow out the experience.
Gameplay
The extraction shooter part is also really fun, picking up whatever you find along the way, clothing, items, trinkets, [strike] cursed artifacts [/strike] trinkets or food, checking if they are of any use, it felt awesome. You won't run out of stuff to see for quite a long while. Plus the gun customization part is also great: scrolls, oils, and attachments, oh and the kits to change your guns' bores. You can really imagine plenty of stuff and check out if it's decent, or even usable at all. I've had plenty of my creations really suck, but that's part of the fun. Some are even really worth it. If I can really point out anything slightly bad is the lack of weapon noises. You see, each firearm has a unique gunshot sound that it originally comes with, alongside its caliber. However, when you rebore the gun, to another cartridge (each caliber has its own default gunshot noise, for when changing a gun's caliber, by reboring it with a kit), it gets assigned the default for that one's.
Schizo rant
In my opinion (and I know this is an overly specific and long complaint) this kinda limits the fun of exploring customization, to the point where i'll leave a weapon on its slightly less underpowered caliber just to hear its beautiful sound (this also talks volumes about the sound design in this game, do I really need to make a section about sound design?) There's like six cartridge types in the game, and one is only available to its own guns. My dream depiction of this game would have (and I do realize, this is an absurdly ambitious request) custom weapon sounds for each gun on each cartridge. Also I kinda found the lack of religious imagery quite lame. I was expecting SULFUR to be similar to FAItH; badass priest, what is thy name, demon; maybe even a couple of verses. Turns out the roman collar shirt is the only thing in the whole game that pays rendition to its theme. You can't even fix the Crucifix on your church. This is the only letdown I had with this game, alongside the gun sound one. I'd type a little more to elaborate more on the problem, but that would imply me to drop some massive spoilers that shouldn't be revealed in any way.
Finish Hymn
This game is really good, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend you to try it out as well. Until now I feel like I've really seen everything, and have little desire to try the game out for long again. If I can really end this review saying anything, I'll say that the game to dollar ratio is an absolute steal, if you're into these type of games. Thanks, and have an excellent day.
Тарков дома 😃
So far a good game. Insane potential for combos with the guns and effects. It gets super repetitive with some of the achievements - 1 million Sulf specifically. But overall, it's fun to experiment with and cause ABSOLUTE CHAOS, either as a gun nut or an elemental wizard.
