Ummmmmm... No. Some people are going to find this really charming. I love the art style and direction. Slight bug when I first started that the first room wouldn't display when I was in fullscreen mode... No idea what the intro to this game looks like, I sat round on a black screen for quite a while before I tried hitting "Start", found the menu was available, dropped into "Windowed" mode and found there was a game here (which disappeared again if I went back to fullscreen)... But when I tried again later fullscreen was fine. No idea why. But... the art is all it has. It's a walking simulator without the deep subtle story. As far as I played; 90% of this game can be beaten by an elastic band round your left analogue stick. 5% is short-dialogue-less cutscenes. 5% are "puzzles" with no fail states, just an excuse to push other directions on the stick for a bit, or hold a button down before you progress. For a game that is apparently short and sweet, to me it felt empty and padded. Maybe it gets meatier later, but half an hour in, I don't feel compelled to keep going. This feels like it would've been an awesome web animation; a nice little story with that mix of cute + creepy. But as a game... I had enough of walking between featureless corridors between actual bits of gameplay in Mass Effect, and I got frustrated with it in that game too. This is going to be someone's favourite game. Not me, though. Sorry!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Genuinely surprised by the influx of negative reviews on this game. I played it around when it released and had a really good time with it. It's short, sweet, and doesn't overstay its welcome IMO. I struggled a bit with one specific puzzle but outside of that everything else was pretty straightforward. Great game for those nights when you wanna sit down and play through something in one sitting, as it only took me a few hours to fly through everything the game had to offer (including all three endings.)
Beautiful art but gameplay is extremely lacking. I really wanted to enjoy it, but I had to stop 20 minutes in because it just really isn't what I expected. First off, I had no clue what I was doing the entire time. Didn't know who the character was, what was going on, where I was supposed to go, what I was supposed to be doing. Maybe the first two questions would have been answered if I played more, but not knowing what I was doing really made it hard to enjoy whatever it was that I was doing. Which was mostly slowly walking in a straight line. Second off, the walking is wayyy to slow. It's one thing for a game to be slow-paced, but the walk cycle was much too slow for the proposed urgency of the game to the point it felt jarring. I was being chased by a creepy guy and literally was walking away like I was leaving an awkward date. Lastly, the empty cars. It would be fine if these cars where you just walked through were providing atmosphere or backstory, but they felt like they were just there to take up time. I would be going through 4 cars of missing posters and just a guy looking at me when one would have sufficed. Overall, the art of the game is beautiful, but the gameplay felt way too slow.
I should have dropped it, and ran when I saw "accessible entry point into horror for all" being touted in the description. To put it bluntly, most of the gameplay is holding down W watching your protagonist slowly waddle down a narrow subway car. The puzzles are just picking up items, and handing them to the ghosts.
Really neat art style, sound design, and story! Very cute, but with some good scares imo. Roughly 3-4 hours to play it through. There's almost no exposition whatsoever so it can be a little unintuitive at times, but overall I enjoyed it!
I bought this game a while back as part of the Land Crab bundle, and honestly I can't say that I would've bought this game otherwise. I do want to clarify that I love the uniqueness of this game's visual design. It's just so individualistic, and you can tell the developer(s) really put a lot of soul into it. Unfortunately, the visuals are where the perks kind of end for me. The game just isn't fun to play. It's like a walking simulator with a small puzzle sprinkled in every few minutes. Outside of the puzzles, it's just walking, and for me personally the game doesn't do very much to make that engaging. The scary factor doesn't do much for me either, because genuinely I'm bored. The eeriness and horror aspect of this game just don't do enough. It's also not like I don't enjoy slower-paced games either, it's just the fact that Subway Midnight doesn't have much going on as far as gameplay goes. Like I said, the visual design is awesome, but the gameplay is so lackluster and leaves a lot to be desired. I honestly don't know if I'll ever play through to the end because I just don't enjoy it.
The game is very pretty and aesthetically wonderful. The art direction is incredible and I'd love to see more in this style. With that said, the gameplay is nothing. Nada. Zero. Legit just holding the W key with small puzzles in between. I felt like I was waiting for the game to actually start. The story is lack luster and boring with nothing to really make me go "wow let me know more". By the third ghost variant I was over it and wanted the game to end already. I think if you enjoy Yume Nikki and games with very forgiving win conditions, vague storylines, and a lot of theory crafting, it could work for you. But as someone who wanted more from the game, I was left disappointed since I had been wanting to play the game for over two years. Not worth it at all.
The art style is beautiful, but it's unfortunately the game's only real strength. The story didn't hook me, the puzzles are weak and often boil down to trial and error, and there's barely any gameplay besides walking forward. In the end, it just felt like a waste of time. Such a shame.
I thought the reviews were just people with poor attention spans who couldn't handle a slower paced art-focused game, but no the game is honestly worth the middling review scores in my oppinion. Subway Midnight's beautiful art and aesthetic appeal doesn't make up for not being fun to actually play. It is not an objectively bad game, it just really wasn't for me. I really loved the first hour or so of the game, up until after Collin's Game and the theatre segment. The main character moves slow as a snail, and as much as that makes you slow down and appreciate the game's artistry, it blows up in the game's face as soon as it expects you to do more than just walking in a straight line or press buttons. Walking away from a big slime monster, or through a conveyor belt room, where any mistake means instant death and having to redo the whole thing from scratch...just isn't very fun. The game's segments are all very brief, but when you move so slowly, and mistakes are punished by instant loss, it just completely sapped my motivation to see this game through to the end. For now I think I won't sit down and fully finish the game because if I'm not having a good time, then why bother? It's not worth it to subject myself to a game I don't enjoy just to be able to feel validated in dislking it. I wish the game just stuck to being a walking simulator, because a game where everything except the gameplay is fun...is not a very good game in my oppinion. Others may be more willing to be patient, or may love the art so much that it makes up for these flaws, but for me, they weren't enough to make it worth my while.
