STORY OF SEASONS: Grand Bazaar

Its very much a Story of Seasons (A.K.A Harvest Moon) game. It has all the things I love about Harvest... Story of Seasons. Very fun and plenty to do with the Seasonal Events, relationship quests, and building both your farm and the Bazaar.

This game is the proof that details matter (and I mean this as a compliment). Most of the wides strokes are just ok: the music is pleasant, but not memorable; the mechanics work well enough and there are some unique twists, but nothing revolutionary; the art style is pretty, but not super distinct. Overall, one would expect the game to be painfully middling... And yet it isn't! I'm not saying it's the next big thing in farming sims or anything, but there are so many great details in it that show how much heart has gone into it. One such example is the animations: there are custom animations for the smalles things, such as having several animations per type of animal you can pet, even going so far as changing slightly based on from where you press the "pet" button. The fact that the town is constantly visited by passerbys that you can actually talk to is another such detail. The greet mechanic; the fact that, when it rains, characters run to their destination while trying to cover their eyes from the rain; the landscape viewing; the ability to jump about the town... There's so many details that come together to make this game such a pleasure to play. I also want to give them props for the characters. At first, I felt like they were just like the obnoxiously cheery neighbours in Animal Crossing, but as you get to know them, their personality really starts to show, especially in cutscenes. Their storylines are always quite light-hearted, but they're not shallow: they all have their own inner world and inner conflicts that make sense for the characters they are. Most importantly, those personalities also show when they interact with one another, even in pairings that you would not expect (such as when Samir comforts the mayor). Overall, what I can say is that, while the game is not revolutionary by any means, it does have a lot of heart.
