STAR WARS™ Dark Forces (Classic, 1995)

Very good DOOM-like game in Star Wars setting, although it has a few hiccups. Level design is not all that impressive and sometimes can be really repetetive and confusing. Same goes for a few puzzles this game has. Overall, not bad, but not really memorable

Honestly did not expect this to play this smoothly and aging this well (although played it with The Force Engine source port). Controls felt smooth, level design "largely" intuitive - unless you've become "retro FPS-brained" after playing a few dozen Quake 1 map packs, you'll likely swear bloody murder at level designers during Sewer puzzle or Imperial City hex room puzzles - but other than that, smoother sailing that most modern slop "bümshoots". Decent MIDI OST, good weapons, decent length that doesn't overstay its welcome (unless you get hung up on the aforementioned puzzles), nicely challenging on Hard without turning into vitriol farming (unlike the sequel). Worth it on discount, grab the remaster - it's not like you've got a choice now, lmao

As a DOS game from 1995 this game runs phenomenally well, though it's not without its flaws. The controls and level design are very much from another era that doesn't really translate to modern story-based shooters. HOWEVER, there is incredible modding support for this game that brings it closer to the modern age. I played the first 6 levels vanilla, basically abusing guides to get me through this doom-like. My biggest issue with the controls was aiming up and down being mapped to page up and page down. Using modding support like The Force Engine made the game much more playable and even enjoyable with the reworked graphics, controls and save states. I would highly recommend it for your playthrough, and don't worry about the remaster, The Force Engine is more than sufficient for a decent Star Wars gaming experience. I'm glad to have cleared this from my backlog and experienced the beginning of the Golden Age of Star Wars PC games. On to Dark Forces 2!

Un vieux jeu et pourtant on retrouve de bonnes sensations ! Certes, on galère, on cherche, on trouve difficilement la solution, mais c'est un plaisir qu'on retrouve dans très peu de jeux aujourd'hui. Il est parfois frustrant et les niveaux donnent parfois envie d'arrêter tout simplement le jeu. Mais une fois terminé, on a l'impression d'avoir vécu une vraie expérience de l'époque et on peut être fier d'avoir terminé ce jeu.

Juego muy recomendable. Sin embargo, sería mucho mejor contar con una versión remasterizada, ya que esta versión es difícil de jugar en los dispositivos actuales.
