Star shelter is a space survival game built from the ground up for VR. You are stranded in space, you must climb around in Zero-G, explore, scavenge, craft, hack and fight to survive. You have to build, arm and upgrade your own space station in order to escape the cosmic graveyard.

This game is super underappreciated, it's possibly my favorite survival/crafting game. Jetting around open space in zero G and pushing off surfaces is really satisfying and responsive. The game progression of building up your space station, your spacesuit, your sidearm, and into the endgame happens very organically and at a very reasonable pace. The difficulty is also on point, you're challenged and you'll learn some harsh lessons in early playthroughs; but you very quickly learn what problems to get ahead of and how to handle combat effectively. It's a perfect, bite-sized survival experience that makes excellent use of VR, I recommend it to anyone with a headset.
This will not work with steam controllers. The Co op split screen multiplayer also does not function when you join the host, you only see what he sees. And the devs did not see fit to explain how this is supposed to work. I joined the discord to try and get help and the devs completely ignore questions. Don't waste your money if you have an index controller!

Honestly, this game is just gosh darn amazing. Floating through space, building up your base and fighting some robots along the way, it is incredibly fun how open this world is. The first few hours will be quite confusing. There is a small tutorial on the controls, but then you're pretty much just thrown into space with your small space station and are supposed to figure out the rest. However, due it it's relatively small amount of content, it is quite simple to figure out what to do and what is worth salvaging in order to build the things you need to progress your spaceship. There appears to be no real goal aside from "make a spaceship, get cores, and go hyperspeed". There are also the occasional robots flying around, which, at the start, are not worth fighting in the slightest. Replenishing health is near impossible and the gun uses so much power that, if you cannot aim properly, will waste your power quickly. There is also a robot buddy that can be controller by the VR player, or someone else using your computer (or just by using Steam remote play or Parsec or another service that lets one user control another one's computer), which sounds really fun and once you have some solar panels, it really is fun and handy. However, before you have solar panels, I'd recommend not using the robot at all. It drains power quite quickly when moving around and I've had it where the ship simply couldn't recharge fast enough to give me and the robot enough power as well as craft, and you can only disable the auto-charging for both you and the robot, not just one of them seperately. The shipwrecks are quite fun to explore though with tons of loot inside and some tech points which can permanently (I think) upgrade some stats. I think this game is an exceptional concept. Truly, amazing in so many ways. Sadly it is held back by it's age. Controls feel a bit clunky at times, some of the salvaging things cannot be salvaged or even held onto, the power consumption early-game is unbalanced and there is not much content nor variety to it all. That said, This game needs a sequel. It deserves one. Now that the devs have more experience with VR as well as the improved tools (as they stated previously in some posts), they have the perfect opportunity to turn this into a huge game, kind of like a space version of Subnautica, but then in VR. Imagine if they added mod support so users could perhaps create their own wrecks with salvageable parts, or vertical base building, or perhaps a gravity switch in the ship that would be so much more convenient to walk around in XD. This game has infinite potential, and I really hope that the devs and publishers decide to use that and innovate and create one of the best base-building survival games for VR. TL;DR This game is quite old and it feels that way in the controls as well as the content itself. It is still however, quite fun to travel through space and build your own space station potentially with a PC robot friend to tag along and help you out. It has tons of potential for a sequel and it desperately needs and deserves one. I do think this game is worth trying, but not without a sale.
good game but remote play dont work
I received Star Shelter for free from Lurkit, a platform that provides keys to Content Creators. After a few hours playing the game on stream with input from chat, Star Shelter has great potential, the initial idea is unique and interesting. However the game lacks in many areas. It's initial "tutorial" is lacking, with not much information to help with surviving, the controller system is clunky and not very intuitive. Multiplayer Co-op is basically none existent, it requires player 2 to play on desktop, there's no VR Support for player 2. There is also no pause option if you need to take the VR headset off for a second, which can involve in death if something happens. The game has potential to be unique, it's not an "experience only" VR title but an actual game where you could sink in a lot of time building a nice base in the stars. If your looking for a single player VR Space Survival game you may enjoy Star Shelter, but if your looking for a Co-op game, this isn't a game for you. Personal Rating: 6/10
I really wish this thing wasn't abandoned I enjoy it a lot However, it had so much more potential
its pretty rough around the edges, but its just BARELY a correct, enjoyable game. ive played vr games kinda similar to this one before (like into the radius) but this one actually works by giving you actual objectives. theres a lot of strategy you have to implore to make sure you dont run out of power or oxygen which is something i do like. the main bulk of this game is divided into 2 parts: looting and scavenging for resources and gear, and building your base. its basically a zero g subnautica. there will be some light combat segments here and there, but its not too focused on this. i do like it how the game isnt so stubborn about the hardest to find resources and you can craft them if you dont want to just search and search for one specific rare thing. like i said however its not perfect, but to the games credit none of the problems are due to bad game design, just budget restraints. the game is a little cheaply made, the graphics are extremely simple, and all the stuff that floats around your space ship just stays there until it despawns and some newer thing appears. i would have preferred if the stuff would gradually drift towards your station, pass it, and then drift away. they would help me suspend disbelief and give me a visual indicator of how much time you have before something is too far gone. the game is really buggy and has been abandoned by the devs for years so its pretty likely that it wont get any better, grabbing mechanics are finicky and difficult, the movement system is similar to that of ECHO VR but harder to grab onto stuff (especially if you have a valve index kit) its not perfect, but it was still able to outshine despite its flaws. it was a one time play, but i still enjoyed it from start to finish. 6/10
fun but grindy
insanely confusing and broken, but the multiplayer is fun enough to make up for it 6/10
It's a nice concept, but the early game might as well be described as a death simulator. Frequent asteroids guarantee that your starting station will take damage that will rupture the hull and spill all your limited supply of oxygen out into space. Unless you happen to be on a life that has an oxygen bug in which oxygen just keeps replenishing indefinitely. Still starting out, you are likely to die of starvation or suffocation before you get very far. The next problem spot is storage; the game has no simple means of expanding your storage, and by my 3rd character, the station inventory was full, but I still did not have enough materials of the right kind to build more storage. You lose anything in your character's inventory when they die.
