when i first picked up the game off xbox game pass, i didn't think much of it. i couldn't get past the first area without some events that i perceived to be beyond my control taking me down. years later, i picked up the game on steam and i gave it a second chance. played more strategically. chose options i didn't even think were options on my first playthrough. this game is brilliantly designed. every jump you make, every whip crack, every shopkeeper aggro, matters. i don't know if my perspective changed, but the game has become less about getting to the end and more about the journey. through that lens, losing became fun. some of the secrets in this game are utter madness that i will never come close to attempting. i haven't even beaten the base game, yet the game rewards you every small step you make. i think this game may be literally perfect. i haven't played another game that feels more deliberate in its design and execution. derek constructed a world that is complete pandemonium yet never feels entirely unfair. nothing about this game should work, yet it does. 10/10
I'm not that much of a experienced player for this game but I'd say it's more of a 50/50, I played and beat the first Spelunky and it's definitely an upgrade graphically and in terms of length; but I'm not that sure gameplay wise because after I played in solo and co op matches I realized that this game its very, very overwhelming to deal with and almost every enemy and traps can one shot you or stun lock you for 3-4 sec, even some "secret" quests can be hard sometimes but I really like they implement the possibility to skip some of the boss fight and other annoying parts. At the end of the day I think It's worth buying, but I recommend thinking a bit before buying this game.

its pretty hard, also very fun! until its not... awesome game.
