this game is so much bloody fun, the art and environments are awesome, the music is amazing and hitting parries on stage hazards for speed boosts is like crack to me. it also runs really well on my crappy, aging laptop (runs better than spark 3) which is a major bonus for me!
прикольно было но крайне мало, вполне можно скипнуть и перейти к третьей части
Not nearly as good as spark 3, the level design is kinda "eh" because its linear, but its a good transition for this franchise into 3d! And the music is banger

I didn't really liked this game tbh... The level desgin felt overwhelming and confusing to navigate. And the controls for Fark felt extremely janky. And there were even less powers than in the first game. The boss fights basically come down to parry untill you get a x3 damage multiplier and spam the X button (Square if you use a PS controller).
Yikes. This is just not very good. The movement feels off, and most levels are just enemy spam you can jump over, or completely empty runways. The boss fights are just awful. A fight consists of spamming the attack button and parrying every few seconds for a few minutes. All fights play out exactly the same. My less than 2 hour playtime is the entire length of the game, and i dont think there are any side stories like the first game. At least i didnt see any, but I wouldnt have bothered anyway. Its not even comically bad or impossible to control, its just boring.
During the drought of good Sonic games, there emerged many indie substitutes that captured that same feeling, more or less, but while also bringing its own identity to the table. Spark the Electric Jester is probably one of the best Sonic-like speed platformers out there and I got to see what made it so great, even on its own. Starting with the game feel and the world design, it evokes a combination of Classic-era art style on top of Dreamcast-era cities and tech-scapes. The game has in-depth combat mechanics on top of the speedy movement and level traversal, so when you're running through levels you can feel great about zipping along the speedways and carefully skipping past tricky platforms using your momentum to fly through the air after each jump. I had a few gripes about the way I run up walls and have difficulty staying on the winding road while sprinting until I reached Titanic Tower. That's when I realized that it was meant to be a challenge to balance and "steer" your little robot so he stays on the road until the end. After that level, it really delivers the point home about this challenging mechanic to stay on the road through speed sections. Don't take Sonic's automatic loop-de-loops for granted. Next, the combat is something that speed platformers like Sonic haven't seen much of since Heroes or Unleashed, but even better. You feel the full potential of it when you step into a Boss Battle. The game will even give you tips about using your shield to parry boss attacks and gain energy to use for a powerful blast move. It's important that you find power-up capsules scattered around the stages so you can power up with unique movesets to fit your style of combat. I personally used the Edgy Jester power-up because I enjoy a fast-paced hack-n-slash experience along with the nod to Shadow the Hedgehog in its visual design and skating animation. Finally, the story is nothing major to write home about, but I feel like Fark in particular is almost a perfect fusion between Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic, mostly for his uncanny resemblance to the series protagonist Spark and how Fark seems to have this rougher personality in comparison, but still fights against the main antagonist for his own personal reasons. Where Spark stands out is that the characters can often take a very morally-grey side, so many of them end up entangled in each other's business for various reasons and not just "good vs. evil". (Then again, I am remembering several occasions where this was exactly the case in a Sonic game) Oh don't let me forget about the music. I have never felt the need before to just stop what I'm doing and LOOK UP THE OST mid-game. The boss themes with vocals are so amazing, even rivalling Sonic's Crush 40 songs. Even the stage themes are amazing enough for me to add to my favorite playlists. Andy Tunstall is AMAZING as both a musician AND an artist! Overall a really good experience out of the box. I highly recommend it if you enjoyed the Dreamcast-Era Sonic. There's just one buggy issue and that's when I try to exit the Store or Gallery and sometimes my game gets stuck on the "Saving..." screen. Yeah, that might need some fixing.
I really enjoyed the first game and was looking forward to playing the second. Unfortunately, the transition to 3D didn't work too well. While I was playing the game, I was wondering how much better it would have been in 2D with all the experience the developer gathered while making the first game. Playing felt somewhat rushed and soulless. The story is forgettable (which is ok) and confusing (which is not ok). Overall, I really cannot recommend this game. Also, it took me only 2 hours to finish the game. Pros: - good sense of speed while traversing through levels - Gameplay is alright for platforming but horrible for fighting Cons: - levels don't transition well from 2D to 3D - fighting enemies is not necessary except for bosses - bosses are boring and interchangeable - music is forgettable; What happened? It was fantastic in the first game? Some tracks were reused. - took me only 2 hours to beat the game; don't feel like ever playing it again (contrary to the first game) - levels are too short; take 2-5 minutes to finish (if longer, then because of many retries at some frustrating platforming sections); bosses take 2 minutes; it just all flies by and is not memorable Overall, the transition from 2D to 3D just didn't work for me. However, I read that the third game is supposed to be fantastic. I'll give it a try eventually and will update this review after I finished it.

I like this game because the lore is shown to not only have all that action feeling but as a showcase to how Fark's character arc evolves as he fights memorable opponents, like Astra & Romalo, Flint, Double and Float. And to a stop for a legacy of evil. For context in Spark 1, he was the average rival you'd face with. However in Spark 2 he does have a DRASTIC character development. Being more mature depending in any situation.
