SpaceChem is a chemistry themed programming puzzle game. But instead of writing lines of code you need to build tracks and place instructions along them, which will be executed by a waldo that moves along these tracks and can grab, move, and drop molecules among other things. The instructions include rotating molecules, removing or adding bonds between atoms, fusing atoms, and many other things. All of this in a limited space so the puzzles are challenging and require good spatial thinking. I think this game is brilliant and it's my favorite by Zachtronics for sure. I have only two gripes, the first is that some of the "boss fight" levels may require a bit of trial and error as the game doesn't provide all the info about how exactly the boss fight works upfront. The second is the last level, which is a pretty huge difficulty spike from the rest of the game on top of having the problem I previously described. Other than that the game's great, very challenging and extremely rewarding, every puzzle in mid to late game feels like it pushes you to the limit of what is possible within the game's systems until you solve it and see the next one. Would recommend (unless you value your peace and sanity).
Too many puzzle for tiny little monkey brain
Pretty obscure. Come for the TF2 Items, stay for something better. [h1]YOU WILL NEED A GUIDE.
The GOAT of Zachtronics.
This is a very complex, very rewarding game with a lot of content. I genuinely believe that solving the puzzles in SpaceChem can enhance the way you approach problems in real life. My only qualm is that the controls are pretty bad. Not only are they awkward, but even simple things like mouse sensitivity cannot be changed in the options. Even though the game is available on GeForce Now (nice!), it can't be played there because the mouse sensitivity is so weird. The controls can be fixed with Steam Deck/Controller + Steam Input, especially using the virtual menu feature, but that is not a merit to the game itself.
