game is decently fun, most stages are well designed and fun, music is a little bit of a mixed bag, but usually pretty good, art style and visuals are passable, boss fights suck ass and make the game unimaginably unfun, they're too long, some are just plainly poorly made. with all this in mind, alongside the incredibly high price of $80 CAD ($60 USD), i just do not think this game is worth that price, maybe if there was sale with the game at half the price, it could be worth it. for now, i do not recommend.
Infelizmente um dos piores jogos 2D do Sonic. Se está pensando em comprar, pode passar longe desse jogo. As fazes são até legais, mas é impressionante como toda boss fight desse jogo é HORRÍVEL. Batalhas essas que ocorrem todo final de fase, e é uma pior que a outra. Quando você se aproxima do boss final, as batalhas vão ficando longas e cansativas. A luta contra o robô do Eggman no espaço virtual é mais longa que o Senhor dos Anéis: O Retorno do Rei (Versão Estendida). Morreu nela? Volta absolutamente tudo do começo pois não tem checkpoint. A SEGA pra fazer um jogo bom do Sonic erra em 10 jogos. Eu sinceramente faria uma reestruturação na Sonic Team, pq esse jogo não dá. Preço cheio muito menos. Compre Sonic Mania ou Origins e seja muito mais feliz. Passe longe dessa bomba do Superstars.

i am completely unsure as to why i can review this game as i do not own it. i wish i did, though!!! edit: i now have the game!! the first half of the game is amazing but i genuinely just could not enjoy the second half. amy is really fun, the emerald powers are cool and lagoon city is one of the best levels in the franchise!!! it's a very 6/10 game for me second edit: this game keeps growing on me the more i replay it. 7/10 game!!! i enjoy it in full now
The physics feel good, the new character is fun, like half of the OST is great, so why no? Quite simply, the bosses are atrocious. Also, lack of online coop. Single screen coop feels like an afterthought, as the game clearly wasn't designed around it. Too bad Trip will likely never appear again outside of a panel in the comics every decade.

Contrary to what has been said prior, I really do think this game recaptures the classic vibes from the franchise. It does not aim to recreate the feels of sonic 2 and 3, aiming instead for the design philosophy sonic 1 and cd. They nailed the platforming and the special powers, while not being a necessary addition, are fun to use. Most levels are in fact great, with the only downside being the bosses being way too long (although they are not as bad as Sonic Rush'). They were designed with multiplayer in mind, so that 4 player would not melt their health, but they tend to get annoying in solo play. I did not try the multiplayer mode and did not pay full price (60 bucks is certainly overpriced). For me, this game is an 8/10. Definitely go for it if there's a sale and you liked sonic 1 and cd.
this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the bosses are nothing but waiting and its filled with insta-kills (also cutscenes de-selecting super forms is pure ass) play mania or origins instead
Man, this is so close to being a favorite Classic Sonic game for me. The level design was fun, I love having the variety of playable characters without needing to devote a full save file to them, the special stages are mostly pretty cool, the chaos emeralds all granting new abilities is really cool (granted, some are way more useful than others), the music is (mostly) good, and I love the new character, Trip... but those bosses. Oh my God the bosses. Some of them are way too easy. Some of them are way too hard. All of them are way too boring. Extremely long wait times between attack opportunities, and rarely for any good reason. The bosses in Trip's Story are especially bad. The final boss in particular is so ridiculously difficult that it made me drop the game entirely. I haven't quit a game right at the end like that in years. But by god this game just isn't worth finishing.
