Remarkable indie sim game. Truly stellar. I've been playing since very early beta's and watched as this game continues to get more and more content added to it. Beyond worth the purchase, seriously exceptional work here.
I don't normally review games, but if you like in-depth business tycoon/simulation games, you will not be disappointed! The game goes deeper than I imagined. It has a bit of a learning curve, but the in-game help is decent, and the game is definitely fun enough to reward your efforts.
Software Inc. on Steam is a compelling and intricate simulation game that invites players to build and manage their own software company from the ground up. Developed by Coredumping, this indie title offers a deep management experience, blending aspects of business simulation, architectural design, and people management into a highly customizable and addictive gameplay loop. What starts as a solo developer in a makeshift garage quickly expands into a sprawling corporate empire, provided the player can master the game’s layered systems and stay ahead of the rapidly evolving tech industry. At the heart of Software Inc. is a robust simulation engine that governs everything from employee behavior to market dynamics. Players must juggle development timelines, manage staff morale, respond to economic shifts, and keep up with hardware and software trends. Projects can range from simple 2D graphics tools to massive operating systems, games, and even digital distribution platforms. Each project comes with its own complexity, timeline, and requirements, demanding long-term planning and an understanding of market demands. The freedom to choose which niches to dominate and how to specialize keeps the gameplay open-ended, encouraging experimentation and replayability. One of the game’s standout features is its detailed office design system. Unlike many tycoon-style games that use abstracted building mechanics, Software Inc. allows players to design every aspect of their workplace, down to furniture placement, lighting, HVAC systems, and acoustics. This isn’t just cosmetic—well-designed spaces improve productivity and employee happiness, while poorly constructed offices can lead to inefficiency and workplace dissatisfaction. It adds a surprising layer of realism and immersion, making the player feel like both a CEO and an architect, responsible for crafting an environment conducive to creative and technical success. The employee simulation is another area where the game shines. Each worker comes with individual stats, personalities, specialties, and needs. Hiring the right team, training them over time, and managing team dynamics becomes a strategic challenge in itself. Leaders can be promoted from within, and eventually, departments form, making HR and hierarchy management critical to scaling effectively. Personality conflicts, burnout, and underperformance can all derail a successful operation if not handled carefully. This depth creates emotional investment in your team, turning what could have been faceless units into valued contributors with careers you actively shape. From a technical standpoint, Software Inc. is still in early access, but it's remarkably stable and polished considering its complexity. The user interface is detailed, though it can feel overwhelming at first due to the sheer volume of options and data. However, after a modest learning curve, everything becomes intuitive. Regular updates from the developer continue to improve mechanics and add features, and the modding community is strong, offering everything from new building assets to rebalanced economic systems. The developer's transparency and responsiveness have helped cultivate a dedicated fan base, contributing to the game’s ongoing evolution. Graphically, the game uses a clean, low-poly style that emphasizes clarity over detail. While it won’t win awards for visual fidelity, its aesthetic serves the gameplay well, making it easy to track employees, office setups, and development progress. The day-night cycle and weather effects add a nice touch of atmosphere. Sound design is minimalistic but functional, with ambient office noises and subtle cues that help communicate game events without overwhelming the player. In conclusion, Software Inc. is an exceptional simulation game for those who enjoy systems-heavy management experiences. It successfully combines software development, corporate strategy, and architectural design into a rich sandbox filled with meaningful choices and strategic depth. Whether you want to run a boutique indie studio or dominate the tech world with monopolistic force, the game offers the tools and freedom to realize that vision. While it still has room to grow as it progresses through early access, its current form is already deep, satisfying, and endlessly replayable. For fans of simulation and business management games, Software Inc. is a must-play that continues to evolve with care and ambition. Rating: 9/10
Constantly being updated, and believe me, I know the game says Early Access. But to me there is so much content, not to mention all the mods on the workshop, that the game feels finished without mods. I would highly recommend you pick up this game If you're a fan of Mad Games Tycoon Mad Games Tycoon 2 game dev tycoon game dev story This game is all those games plus 10 times more depth. It's the best game in its genre, hands down.
Easily my favorite game out. I've been playing since early alpha and have to give kudos to the dev for how much the game has grown and the consistency in quality. Every update brings new experiences and only moves in the right direction, and we rarely get games like this with this level of support and passion put behind it. I highly recommend and consider it the best (especially tech focused) business sim on the market.
This game has captivated me. Its building, task management, and deep economic simulation all lend themselves to an experience that's like the best parts of Rimworld and Game Dev Tycoon. I recommend Software Inc. at full price to anyone who enjoys the management and progression of those two titles. The caveat, however, is a pain point I think should be known but is worth pushing past (the game is still EA after all): - **The in-game tutorials are very opaque.** They're pretty much just the minimum information required to carry out a task. The impact of these features and how they work together must be observed, discovered, or assumed, which is unusual for a game with this much depth. Not only is the unofficial wiki also not maintained, but the game has been indev for so long that a lot of YouTube tutorials and Reddit threads are outdated. Software Inc. is not overly complicated, I do still recommend it, just don't get attached to your first save file. Remember it's a one-man operation still in Early Access. Play on 2-day months.
A really solid and polished simulator that rewards planning, experimentation, and long-term thinking. If you enjoy management games, optimization, or tech/business simulations, Software Inc. is an absolute must-play. It’s clear the game is made with care, and the ongoing updates only make it better over time.
probably the best game in its genre. there is so much depth in everything here, over 100 hours in i still havent even messed with hardware and its manufacturing or buying out companies. designing the office is so fun, but very time consuming and after the 90th play-through it does get a little old. you can create blueprints of your buildings though for future use in other saves if you would like which makes this a small point. absolute banger
