Really cool rpg that does alot with little.
A very beautiful game with a beautiful story, you should try it if you love playing RPG Maker Games.
i think the art will probably be the biggest turn-off for people, i wasn't a huge fan at first, but almost immediately i didn't care, and over the course of the game i grew to like it. another thing i like is the combat, i think it provides a good amount of depth for how long the game is. but my favorite part was definitely the writing, i found that the side-stories were all pretty interesting, and really liked seeing how they mixed with each-other and with the main story. i would say this games definitely worth checking out.

About a year ago, I tried to play through this game (downloaded it on Itch.io, which is why my time isn't like... 1.7 times as long). Back then, the game's legitimately rancid vibes (I mean that positively) made me give up on finishing it, which I now recognize meant I missed out on an excellent ending to the game (plus, ironically, if I had stuck it out like... one more floor, I would have been much happier with the results). Now, having completed it, I can say, Slimes is a truly fantastic game, and I'm glad to have reached a point where I could play it through. The story is very well told with very good characters, but that's a very general thing to say, so to instead list some of the really strong things about it: - The two party members have an excellent(ly miserable) dynamic. This is reflected very, very clearly in their skills, in a really neat way that I'm not sure I've ever seen before (even through the very end of the game). - The gameplay is mostly fun (the way Julian's guns are set up makes for a surprisingly fun bit of managing guns to manage the fights most effectively). More importantly, when it isn't fun, it's not fun in a way that supports the narrative of the game. - The additional stories told in the notes gotten by clearing the floors are really nicely done and play into the main narrative really well. - Even when I knew the general direction of how things would play out, it still did it in really interesting ways I wouldn't have expected. - The story was really nice to see with how it fit into the wider canon that's also present in scitydreamer's other game on Steam, "I Hate You, Please Suffer" (especially with some certain secret bonus content). I will say, the game is legitimately unpleasant to play at times, and although I consider that a very good thing in this case, it might not be for everyone. In that case, you might want to check out scitydreamer's other game, "I Hate You, Please Suffer", which, although it has sources of stress in it, is ultimately a lot less unpleasant in that regards (and is also an incredible game).
I thought I rated this game already, but turns out I didn't. Excellent, excellent writing with a great subject matter. If you want a game that knows what it's wanting to talk about, with characters that have believable conflicts and well-written dialogue, and you don't mind a little bit of difficulty in your battles, this is a great unique game. It might look a little "scribbly" on the surface, but its atmosphere is tense, and it has a story that knows exactly what it's doing at all times. I will let you know - it's also very VERY downbeat, and can be depressing for some, but that is intentional, and makes sense given the subject matter surrounding this. If you are wanting to dive deep into a story that deals with rough topics head-on, but from an author who I think exhibits a great sense of understanding of the subject, to the point where I don't doubt this game is also very personal to them - this is a great one to consider.
This is probably the first story I've seen that discusses both the problems and importance of hatred. With it's well written lore and characters, Slimes is a game I can very much recommend for people looking for a unique narrative. Though I'll also note that the narrative is very morally draining. I found myself putting the game down for days after an hour of playtime out of necessity, so don't go into this expecting something uplifting. The turn-based combat is very well designed, constantly encouraging you to come up with new strategies to get past different enemies. Even by the end of the game where I had thought I found an undefeatable strategy, I'd still get caught off guard by encounters where one of the two party members would be stunned or debuffed in a way that countered it. The way combat strategies tied into the story of the two protagonists who completely hated each other made the design all that much better. Only complaint I have is in the UI. Slimes suffers from using a very basic version of RPG Maker UI, where the game's core mechanics and the functionality of RPG maker don't fit well together. For example, every time you want to use a gun, you have to use "Equip Gun", select the only character who can equip guns, get taken out of the skill menu, then go back into the menu to actually use the gun. This is only a bigger annoyance where if you want to reload outside of combat, you have to manually equip each gun and reload it, going through dozens of menus after each battle. The game does give you a "Full Reload" skill about halfway through, but considering it only exists to make the UI less painful, it honestly should have been unlocked from the start. None the less, if poor UI and heavy writing don't sound like a deal breaker, very much recommend this to both RPG fans or people looking for a new kind of story.
It is human nature to have sinful thoughts and feelings. In my case, I have ego for my skillsets in playing turn-based RPGs. This game beat the living hell out of me at times. It pushed my face into dirt. But it was so satisfying to FINALLY give in to my inner RAGE and succumb to my thoughts of violence against certain SLIMES. The combat is top tier. The mechanics are so deep you will likely keep learning new things about them as you proceed. The battles are well-paced and mercilessly punish those lacking in skill. SLIMES is not for the faint-hearted, but there is a story mode for those who cannot handle the turn-based SLIME action. The story is quite novel like despite being on the shorter side of RPGs. Even though it takes place in one dungeon, the world is vast and explores many brutal themes such as rage, cruelty, religion, suicide, and self-hate. But it is also a journey about prevailing against the harsh nature of the world and learning to live life despite it all. A theme I quite like and explore myself. THIS IS A DAMN GOOD GAME, SO SHUT UP AND SPEND YOUR MONEY ON IT
Yeah, that was pretty damn good. Combat has this fun flow to it, and while the regular battles don't pose much of a threat once you get the hang of it, the bosses often had me against the ropes. Good stuff.
Really stunning game. Playing it in 2025, the underlying feeling of helplessness that motivates the characters' anger really hits home. The mechanics are wonderfully integrated with the story, so that the experience of fighting enemies and managing your party helps you understand the characters better. The visuals are incredibly effective, the use of music and sound effects along with visuals made me gasp in some places because of how stunning it is. In terms of difficulty, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to RPGs and this wasn't an easy game for me, but in a way it was a great learning experience. I feel like I understand how RPGs work a little better than I did before! You can also experience the story and set battles to easy mode if you don't want to deal with any of that. It's a very grim game, but not in a doomer way, which I really appreciate. There's an underlying belief that people are capable of being kind and creating a better world. I know it's easy to get into an escapist mentality in times like this, but engaging with the way society is going and how it puts us in danger is important, and this game does that very very well. Highly recommended for anyone with 4-6 hours of free time and an appreciation for good storytelling and hope in the face of overwhelming hatred.
