Fantastic story, wonderful worldbuilding, gritty retro graphics, beautifully creative character design, and great voice-acting. It's a bloody shame that one can't utilize Steam's F12 feature to take screenshots, because every single frame of this game looks gorgeous! Despite the great time that I had with the demo, I was always hesitant to purchase the game at full price due to the mixed reviews it has received on and off since its release. Critics and players seemed so split on the brutal difficulty and the niche mechanics that it made me second-guess myself. I finally had the opportunity to purchase the game on sale, and I am not disappointed in the experience. Rather, I am disappointed that I didn't just go with my gut and purchase the game sooner, because it's an absolute gem that deserves way more love than the mixed reception implies. A magnificent marriage between early 90s cassette futurism and biopunk, Slave Zero X is a difficult yet rewarding combo-centric 2.5D hack-n-slash that grabs you by the throat from the opening menu and doesn't let go. The atmosphere is thick with grime, neon, and bio-mechanical horror, delivering a world that feels incredibly distinct. If you are on the fence because of the reviews, don't make the same mistake I did. If you love deep fighting-game style mechanics, a retro-futurist aesthetic, head-banging soundtrack and a genuine challenge, just buy it. especially now that it's on sale!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I actually really enjoyed this game. Slave Zero X is not perfect by far, but it's not impossible. Yes, most of the time you'll be in fatal sync, and yes, most of the bosses are super annoying and you're going to die, a LOT. But overall, I still loved this game to the max. I personally wish it had better air combat. An air dash, maybe a way to turn around mid air, but other than that, I didn't completely hate it. I love the story, the artstyle is completely amazing, and the voice acting (in my opinion) is top tier. I'd love to see a sequel that upgrades on what this game is lacking.
Arthiritis simulator not even joking your hand will be bleeding in pain after playing this game, not to mention its insane difficulty. As a fan of hack and slash games the combat is great, but it is held back in later levels by ridiculous difficulty and terrible enemy encounter designs that make you want to scream. I think the game overall is a solid 7 or 8 though despite this.
the combat does not feel good in this game and getting stun locked constantly aint adding any fun to the game. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Great story, Great gameplay, Great aesthetics, I'm sad I didn't find this game sooner, this is like the perfect beat em up. Aside from the slightly wonky scoring system, I couldn't ask for more, this really hooked me as a fighting game fan
amazing game somehow balances fun combat with borderline sexual abuse would recommend
This game RULES. The package on offer is very solid & if you're a fan of beat'em ups and anime fighters this should be right up your alley. The artstyle is amazing, the biopunk aesthetic is on full display & the artwork is highly detailed and unique, very striking presentation. The spritework is immaculate, reminiscent of ArcSys fighters (specifically BlazBlue), and the mix between 2D sprites & 3D backgrounds lends to very memorable setpieces and level aesthetics. This is, in fact, a gamer's game. Shou controls amazingly & does exactly what you tell him to. His moveset is great, there's tons of potential for sick combos when mixing in EX moves, ordnances and Supers. The core of the gameplay revolves around the Golden Circle: Gold Burst maxes out your meter > pop Fatal Sync to get free EX moves, lifesteal & increased burst regen > pop Gold Burst once it's done > repeat This NEEDS to be incorporated in your gameplay otherwise you will NOT have a good time. This game will not hesitate to ragdoll, mixup & combo your ass like you're on the receiving end of a MvC infinite. The key is to not let the enemy play, because they will not afford you that courtesy. Shou only has 2 defensive options: An invincible dash/backdash and a 3rd Strike parry. The dash is the most useful one of the 2 but the parry can come in clutch in certain situations (namely boss fights). Positioning is paramount to your survival because you do not want to get caught in between enemies, because the only 2 moves you have that hit both sides are EX 2H & 222H, both of which cost meter. Your dash lets you go through mobs so it's fairly simple to reposition in a way that lets you keep yourself safe and catch multiple enemies in one juggle. High tier enemies will have super armor you'll need to break before being able to launch them, and some of them can take quite a beating. It gets really rough, almost to an unfair degree, in the later stages but nothing is insurmountable. The bosses range from mediocre to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Idk what they were smoking when they were designing Atavaka but jesus is he good. He will not hesitate to just combo the soul out of you mercilessly, you HAVE to respect him because of his super armor and the ♥♥♥♥ he pulls off is just so cool, it felt like I was fighting a high level GG player. I have 2 issues with this game. The first one being the big giant 3D bosses. There's not enough hit feedback when you strike one of their damageable body parts, so half the time you have no idea if you can even hit them, it's weird and poorly communicated in my opinion, I feel like it could've been better conveyed but it's not a big of a deal since there are only 2 in the game. The 2nd is the ranking system this game uses. Slave Zero X HEAVILY skews your encounter rank AND end-of-level rank towards Damage Taken. The less damage you take the better your rank will be, which is par for the course for most character action games. The issue shows up when you realize the other metrics (style and time) pretty much mean nothing. You could be pulling off the sickest double bounce jump cancel combos in existence & it wouldn't matter cuz if you get hit a couple times say bye to your rank. It's unfortunate, especially considering there's a cheevo that requires you to get S on every level, because it's going to pigeonhole you into a very safe, defensive, lame playstyle when the game just BEGS to be played in a stylish manner. Great game, has a bit of a learning curve and some issues but worth the asking price. Can't wait to sweat Crimson Citadel.
