Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.29/day in the week to Jul 30 → 0.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Points off for the DotEmu port, which you can get looking and playing well, it just takes tinkering and it shouldn't. But to this port's credit there are leaderboards and achievements plus local and online co-op. The game itself is of course is quite good, kind of a Jim Belushi to Metal Slug's John.
In Shock Troopers, the Bloody Scorpions terrorists have kidnapped a scientist, whose background is not elaborated further, and his granddaughter. The terrorists want to force him to reveal everything he knows about the Alpha-301 drug, which transforms ordinary people into superhuman soldiers. Since plans for world domination are surely the reason the terrorists want to get their hands on the drug, we must stop the enemy. To do so, we take on the role of one of a total of eight different soldiers, who hail from various countries around the world and thus, of course, embody every cliché. Once we’ve chosen a hero, we’ll make our way through six medium-sized levels until we reach the final boss battle. It takes 45mins max to finish a path. We’re free to choose which of the three routes to take. For example, we can follow the path through the mountains, or just as easily make our way through the jungle or the valley to the enemy base. Visually, the six levels may seem varied, but in terms of content, they offer (almost) the same gameplay experience. The only differences are in the highlights: In the mountains, for example, we swing across a chasm on a rope, and in the jungle, we wreak havoc at a village restaurant. It doesn’t help that the paths can even be combined. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3759183119 The same goes for the characters. The characters generally don’t differ much from one another. Heavily armed musclemen may move slightly slower than slender women, but whether we’re setting half the jungle ablaze with sustained fire or killing enemies with knife attacks, the speed only changes when we pick up the corresponding power-up. This usually takes place from a bird’s-eye view, but some levels, like the aforementioned tightrope walk, also work from a side view, and even isometric sections are commonplace in Shock Troopers. But that sadly doesn’t change the gameplay. Enemies appear from all sides, firing at us. However, dozens of projectiles rarely fill the screen, so unlike its competitors in the genre, Shock Troopers is also geared toward beginners. It’s always possible to skillfully dodge the bullets and launch counterattacks. However, if you’re determined to secure the highest possible ranking on the online high-score list, you can’t avoid close-quarters combat / melee. For perfectionists and pros, the game becomes a whole lot trickier at this level. Rarely does a game like Shock Troopers succeed so well in appealing to two completely different types of players. The game is even more fun in co-op! If you’re looking for extra challenges, you can choose to play without any credits at all and try to complete the game in one go. It’s also possible to play not as a lone wolf, but with two other characters in tow. This is reminiscent of the beat'em-up series The King of Fighters, but it makes almost no sense in Shock Troopers. Instead of three attempts, you’ll only have three different characters to choose from, distinguished primarily by their secondary weapons. You can use grenades, boomerangs, arrows, poison gas, and more to give the Bloody Scorpions a hard time. The controls generally work flawlessly. Visually, the game features beautiful 16-bit character models that wreak havoc against high-quality backgrounds. The game’s soundtrack is also quite cool, but something you'll typically get in these type of arcade games.
Final Verdict
Shock Troopers is a fairly average shoot ’em up. Despite offering various routes and different characters, the game feels repetitive, but also doesn't overstay it's welcome too much. Above all, it could have stood out more with a variety of boss enemies instead of constantly reusing the same ones. On the other hand, the game is designed for both beginners and pros alike, something that’s far too rare in this genre. Those who’ve never played a shoot ’em up before will quickly see success in Shock Troopers, and those trying to master it will need strong nerves now and then, just like with other games in the genre, especially if you want to 100% it like I did. 7.5/10

>A Grandes Rasgos:

Shock Troopers always felt like the natural progression from games like Commando, Ikari Warriors and Mercs. My local arcade had the Neo Geo cabinet, and I spent plenty of time (and credits) trying to complete it. It had a stylish look for the time and a variety of playable characters and paths. It’s a tough game, but that difficulty is part of its charm. Playing it today on something like the Steam Deck means you can easily enjoy playing it on the go, and the gameplay still holds up really well. Shock Troopers was and still is one of the best in the genre and one of my favourite Neo Geo games of all time.
Somehow clunky controlls and very short, I finished the game in less than an hour. Way too expensive for that. If you still want the game, get it when on sale with 85% discount like I did.
