Shattered Union

I REALLY like the theme of this game and enjoyed it a lot back in the day when I bought it on a used CD but it won't load on any system newer than XP so it is unplayable now. I wish someone would remake it but in it's current form it's a dead game.

good game to help pass the time when offline

This hex grid, turn based strategy game is one of my long time favorites. It is relatively simple, and allows for elements of strategic and tactical planning. In campaign mode, choose one of several factions on a quest to reunite the United States. If you succeed, a final battle against Russia to reclaim Alaska awaits. I love this game.

This is an old game, which is still fun to play. It is simple, but requires strategic thinking to win. I have returned to it a few times after I played it for the first time. Though there is only little strategic depth in this game and the game is not playable with the download alone, it still can be quite fun.

Get if you're a huge fan of strategic games (or if it's somehow on sale). It's similar to the game "Civilization" (and the virtual / board game "RISK" in a way) in terms of fighting. This game is quite old and does require some manual fixing to actually getting it working.
