Every photo flash-card you take will be unique to you. The idea behind this is to strengthen the relationship between a word and how you see its physical appearance. In the real world, you can then see such objects and make connections to the Japanese words you've already learned while playing Shashingo.

Your photo album is where you keep your collection of photo flash-cards. If you remember them well in Find Mode, they'll be separated into the 'mastered' tab and shown with a gold star sticker. However, if you're struggling to remember a word in Find Mode, they'll be marked with a purple exclamation mark sticker, so you know which words you need to practice more.
At the back of your photo album, there are also numerous pages of Japanese lessons designed for beginners that will teach you how to speak Japanese and use the vocabulary that you learn in Shashingo. Also included are some key words and important phrases that can help you in your future conversations.

Allow me to be clear. The concept's very cool, the music and visual style is pretty nice. I think, in the state the game is right now, I won't be ready to pay the requested amount, I'd mb pay 5 times less than that, hence requesting the refund. The reasons are: * The map is pretty small - I'd expect, for each area marked with stop sign - to have it actually extended and have it as an explorable area * The gameplay loop invests heavily in photography, yet I'm not sure that having a single way of interacting with this beautiful world is a good idea. Simply speaking - I made a photo, I'm not interested in making albums or decorating photos - I'd like to a) explore that world and b) interact in certain live ways
It's a really great game! You learn a lot of new words. Unfortunately, it's kinda a small city and I would love to go inside a store (or a house) to learn some words that you can not find outside. Is it worth 19 euros? Well, there are listening exercises and reading exercises. I can read hiragana and katakana, and if you are learning kanji (like me) then you can also enable only kanji in the settings. If you can't read hiragana or katakana, you can also enable Romanji if I remember it right. I would say if you are really interested in learning japanese then this would be a great game for u!

I kinda hate that I can't recommend this game. It's very charming with a fun premise. I loaded it up and started playing and then realized I had found the bulk of photographables within the first 30-40 minutes. The vocabulary set is extremely limited with some peculiar inclusions. There's only one small area to explore and then you can kind of aim off into the distance to snap a few more vocabulary. Not being able to get vocab for some useful things like stairs, ground/dirt, sidewalk, road, and others seemed not great too. I had to check if I had purchased an early access game because it feels like an unfinished project. The graphics are fine but lots of blocked off areas, open doors you can't enter, and just such a small area to look around holds this back. I am glad I bought this on sale, I would have been upset if I had paid full price for this. As a rating I would give it a 2/5, but as a premise for something bigger it's a 5/5 concept.
This is a good start but I feel like it has a long way to go. I think it needs some kind of conversational interaction. It would be nice to be able to go into the shops and speak with people. It would also be nice to be able to click and hear the pronunciation of the pop ups. Instead of just being able to take a picture of the sign and hear the game tell you how to say "sign". I would not have thought this game has already been live for 2 years. There's so much more that can be done here to really make this a solid learning experience.
Yes, you can pet the dog.
Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography
This is a great concept, but as many have pointed out, there isn’t enough content. I would be great if we could travel through the main gate and have a bit more words to learn.
This is nice. It has beautiful artstyle with relaxing music. It's a nice 'game' for learning japanese, there's a book with a bunch of lessons on some japanese basics, along with pages specific for teaching you all the hiragana and katakana I believe. Feels great to give a nice starting off point, obviously you should supplement your learning with more stuff as well. I could totally see how this game could be expanded, like with future updates adding new areas, insides of stores, more alleys, and so on. Heck even in DLC format I could totally see DLC expansing more of the city, or a DLC expanding the inside of specific stores or something. Overall, it's a nice game to give you a starting point of learning japanese, be sure to supplement your learning with more stuff though.
If you're too stupid for flashcards like me this game is an easily accessible alternative introduction to learning the language
Não espere que esse jogo vá te tornar fluente em japonês ou que vai conseguir aprender tudo só como ele. Shashingo é apenas uma ferramenta levemente divertida para poder para treinar o vocabulário básico. Se pretende pegar esse jogo com o intuito de aprender japonês unicamente por meio dele, não perca seu dinheiro e seu tempo, se quer praticar um pouco o vocabulário, ele pode ser útil e até mesmo divertido (e nem é a melhor ferramenta para isso).
