Shanghai Summer is an adventure game set in the millennium. Our protagonist, Baichuan, goes through a series of "anomalies" over the length of twelve days. In his pursuit of the truth, he found that his hopes and regrets from the past finally seem to converge. Will he be able to "fix" it for good?

Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Jul 25 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Shanghai Summer developed by FUTU Studio and published by Astrolabe Games is a reflective narrative adventure that places emotional introspection at the forefront of its design. Set in Shanghai in the early 2000s, the game follows Baichuan, a recent university graduate who begins experiencing strange temporal anomalies that blur the boundary between memory and present reality. What unfolds across twelve summer days is less a traditional plot-driven drama and more a contemplative exploration of regret, unfinished conversations, and the lingering weight of choices made in youth. The city itself becomes both backdrop and emotional canvas, shaping the tone of every interaction and recollection. The structure of the game revolves around exploration and dialogue rather than action. Players navigate everyday environments—classrooms, bookstores, residential neighborhoods, quiet cafés—interacting with objects and people that trigger conversations and unlock narrative threads. A system of “Topics” and “Clues” encourages careful attention to details, allowing players to connect fragments of information and deepen their understanding of Baichuan’s inner turmoil. Rather than presenting clear-cut objectives, the game invites players to immerse themselves in atmosphere and emotional nuance. Each day feels like a self-contained vignette, yet together they form a cohesive meditation on personal growth and reconciliation with the past. Character development is central to the experience. Baichuan’s encounters with individuals such as Fengyi, Xiaobo, and Jingxian provide layered perspectives on ambition, insecurity, family pressure, and youthful aspiration. Fengyi’s pursuit of artistic dreams contrasts with Baichuan’s uncertainty about his own path. Xiaobo’s confusion and rebellion reflect the turbulence of adolescence, while Jingxian’s sense of responsibility underscores the sacrifices demanded by familial obligation. These characters are not merely narrative devices; they serve as mirrors reflecting different facets of the protagonist’s internal struggle. Through dialogue and branching choices, players influence how these relationships unfold, shaping emotional outcomes that resonate beyond a single playthrough. Visually, the game employs a stylized 2D art direction that balances warmth and nostalgia. Character portraits are expressive without being overly detailed, while backgrounds evoke the texture of early-2000s Shanghai with subtle authenticity. The muted color palette and soft lighting create a dreamlike atmosphere, reinforcing the theme of revisiting memories. The soundtrack complements this aesthetic with understated compositions that gently underscore key emotional moments. Music swells subtly during pivotal scenes but often retreats into quiet ambience, allowing dialogue and reflection to take precedence. The pacing is deliberately measured. Shanghai Summer does not rely on dramatic twists or high-stakes conflict; instead, it builds emotional resonance through gradual revelation. Conversations linger, pauses matter, and silence often carries as much weight as spoken words. This restrained storytelling may not appeal to players seeking rapid progression or overt drama, but it rewards patience with a sense of intimacy and authenticity. The multiple endings encourage replayability, offering alternative interpretations and emotional resolutions depending on player choices. Thematically, the game explores universal concerns: the fear of missed opportunities, the desire to reconnect with one’s younger self, and the challenge of forgiving past mistakes. Baichuan’s journey through fragmented memories becomes a metaphor for confronting unresolved feelings and embracing acceptance. The anomalies that structure the narrative serve less as supernatural plot devices and more as symbolic mechanisms for introspection. By the conclusion, the emphasis is not on altering the past but on understanding it. Ultimately, Shanghai Summer stands as a thoughtful, character-driven experience that prioritizes emotional depth over spectacle. Its strength lies in its quiet sincerity and commitment to exploring the subtleties of human relationships. While its slow pace and understated mechanics may limit its appeal to those seeking action-oriented gameplay, it offers a meaningful journey for players drawn to narrative richness and reflective storytelling. Through its layered characters, atmospheric setting, and branching emotional outcomes, it captures the bittersweet essence of remembering who we were and coming to terms with who we have become.
Kinda confusing at the beginning but I liked the ending.
So this is a dimension-hopping adventure exploring alternate timelines. The way this is set-up is you find out something has happened and our protagonist is trapped in a false reality. To unravel this he has to explore his relationships and find points where he can realize things that are being kept for him to reach a "final inquiry" where he can untangle all of this. This includes jumping to a few alternate timelines. Overall though, this is a game about exploring relationships, how choices made in the past (he does not get to ondo that) can effect our present and future. I found this really neat.
