What if we made Serious Sam, but for 11 year olds? And made it look like Fortnite? And it wasn't made by Croteam? Sam now has his own Duke Nukem Forever.
This is one of the worst games I've played in a long time. I've tried multiple times to give it a shot, but so many things just don't make sense from a design standpoint. Levels up upgrades are pointless and not exciting, with many of them being "heal your health", or "repair your armor". Weapons aren't very exciting, and so many of them have negative traits that make them not worth picking up. When you complete a challenge room, it scatters money ALL OVER THE MAP. Meaning you have to waste your time walking in circles to pick up every single coin around a huge map, instead of the game just... giving you the money. It's hilarious, like the game is saying oh yeah congratulations now waste your time picking up your reward. Gunplay is weak. Enemy A.I is basic, they just walk straight, get stuck, or sometimes don't move at all. Often times you spend a minute or two walking down halls, to enter a GIANT room, with 10 enemies. It's just a snoozefest all over. I've never played a serious sam game before, but as a Roguelite AND as a Multiplayer FPS, this game has failed in many fronts. EDIT: Everyone saying I gave it less than an hour, I was a playtester, should have been more clear. That's what I meant by "multiple times". I've got several hours across multiple runs.

Can't recommend this right now for the current price (17,99€). - Game is laggy when joining a lobby with others - I fell through the floor when interacting with a portal - Enemy animations feel sluggish and unfinished, hitboxes are weird - I didn't find a setting for voice activation - No way to adjust the resolution in window fullscreen
I was a big Serious Sam fan, but I really don’t like this game. It feels like someone copied ideas from Fortnite and Borderlands. It doesn’t feel like Serious Sam at all. and likes mobile game.... The old Serious Sam games had huge maps, long fights, exploration, lots of enemies, and then a big boss battle. Here, everything feels rushed. After about 10 minutes I was already fighting a boss, and I died very quickly. There is also no proper difficulty setting. Why? Difficulty has always been important in Serious Sam. Other things I don’t like: - No Map Editor. - Made in Unreal Engine, but still no editor tools for players. - Mouse movement feels too smooth and annoying. - Levels feel too fast and too small. - The classic Serious Sam feeling is missing. Serious Sam 1, 2, 3 and 4 felt much better to me. WE WANT A SERIOUS SAM 2 REMAKE! PLZ CROTEAM PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ PL ZPL ZPL ZPL ZP ZLPZZLPZLz
honestly. Idfk if you see this. but that feels more Alpha or Early access.. the Controls are too stiff and janky. There is no difficulty mode. Friendslop, but you can play solo (its getting hard for no f--king reason!!!) The graphics is meh, like literally not beautiful, playing with medium settings, 1440p res but 130fps with my attached Specs. 20€ for a unfinished game, nah dude, don't buy it and its really bad. (i know its's different devs, but That's not a f--king Serious Sam!!!!!)
Decided to post my review after unlocking all the characters, weapons, going through all the levels, difficulties and unlocking all the achievements except one (still have to die 100 times, fascinating challenge). This is a game clearly made by people who don't understand Serious Sam and have no respect for the series. That's the feeling I got after my first few minutes playing the game and it's been confirmed over and over during those hours I spent experiencing it on a deeper level. First of all, this is a buggy mess. Can't even list how many bugs I encountered in both solo and multiplayer games : people falling through the floor, keybinds not working, sound issues, people hard locked after a load on the mutator screen, doors and scripts simply not working, enemies stuck inside walls or not moving, it's just some of the first few things that come to mind and it's endless and frustrating. Gameplay is awful, you're at the mercy of rng to be allowed to play through the first few levels, game can simply decide to not give you a gun. Have fun going through kleer alley with a pistol and a smg. It's also a very grindy game. Finding trinkets, unlocking guns, unlocking upgrades, unlocking characters, it's all a pointless grind. Trinkets are one way to get a decent gun or two early on but that's fully up to rng if you find one or not. Visual and sound designs are the worst in the series by far and that's coming from a long time Serious Sam fan who enjoyed all the games even Serious Sam 2 and 3, two games that get unfairly criticized imo. The dialogues are unbearable to listen to, don't even want to think about them. Serious Sam fan or not : don't waste your money on this game. I highly doubt it's gonna get any decent fixes or content updates. Shame on those devs for releasing such an awful product instead of honoring this great series as best they could like the siberian mayhem devs did.
This isn't a good Serious Sam game or a good roguelike game. Weapons take way too long to unlock and they don't really matter. I've been playing for over 5 hours using the same basic set of weapons - pistol, single shotgun and tommygun. With slight stat variations. Serious Sam should have some weapon management at its core, but here it's totally fine if you just use the tommygun forever with infinite ammo. And the game extremely rarely gives you anything else, unless you grind for currency (which takes a very long time to get). Once you find a "good" weapon, there's no reason to use anything else than that ever. Gameplay is very samey and repetitive, it feels more like a cheaper version of modern Doom games with the health restocking melee kills. In most fights I'm just spamming double jump + dash in the air while circling enemy groups, and if I get low on health I just spam the melee finisher till I'm healed again. Doesn't matter what weapons I use or what enemies to prioritize. The roguelike elements are too boring like the talents. Most talents just give a slight percentage change to something, and some of them don't make any sense like the talent that gives you +25% less recoil if you STAND STILL. Standing still in a Serious Sam game doesn't make any sense whatsoever, goes against the design of the game. Same goes for the talent that makes you more accurate only while airborne. The only talent I actually liked was the one that makes a combo meter show up and makes you shoot faster if you kill fast enough, because it rewards playing well (instead of some arbitrary restriction, imagine that). Which brings me to the chest rewards which are also terrible. I'm frequently skipping all rewards the game gives me, because none of them are good, just slight +/- to stats and there's no real reason to pick up another shotgun that shoots 1% faster but has -1% less magazine. I think there's something wrong with the game design if the game tells me to pick up a reward, and most of the time I don't want to pick any, because all options are terrible. The game also isn't very well optimized. On my system (i9 13980HX, 32 GB RAM, Laptop 4090 RTX 16 GB) I have to run it at 70% resolution on High settings and I'm getting roughly 70 fps, but a lot of places drop it below 60 and overall it just doesn't feel smooth enough for how it looks. I've seen lots of much better looking games that are less demanding. I wish there was at least DLSS/FSR support. Also, for some reason trying to run the game on fullscreen always puts it on the wrong monitor for me, so borderless windowed is the only mode that works. Also, the dialog, while fine the first time you hear it, gets annoying after a while. There's just way too much chatter between the different Sams and the conversations are sometimes too long to even play out for the room you're in, and they frequently repeat the same lines. I don't think Sams should constantly say stuff for every room they're in, it should be more rare and I'd prefer if it was more reactionary instead of playing some scripted stuff. Overall pretty disappointed. There's a lot of potential to the idea of a roguelike Serious Sam but I don't think Shatterverse does it justice at all. I'd much rather be playing the older Sam games with roguelike elements added in instead of this, even.
Serious Sam made for "modern audience"
Behaviour you clearly misunderstood the assignment, keep focusing on DBD, your incompetence can't develop anything else. Instead of having their take at an actual Serious Sam game with a decent amount of levels, a story (whether good or bad, we're used to bad ones anyways), with cool weapons, enemies and music, we instead got this LGBT filled trash game. The developers literally don't know what Serious Sam is about and yet in the announcement they're talking as if they have. Have you ever tried taking a look at Serious Sam: Next Encounter ? An actual great Serious Sam Spin Off that sticks true to its roots ? And that was in 2004, now we're in 2026.
You got 5 characters.
Retro Sam - however the R in "Retro" stands for R-tard because that's exactly how he acts and speaks. Spews random one liners from past games in scenarios where they don't even fit. Fight any enemy in the game and randomly he'll say something for example like "I'm over here you stupid headless freaks" which is completely OUT OF CONTEXT and that's for almost every quote and dialogue he has. The other characters in the game are literally having conversations with him, ask him a proper question and he'll say something like "I eat resistance for breakfast" like what the actual ♥♥♥♥ ? If this is humor done on purpose then that's the worst I've ever heard. People were complaining about SS2's humour, well at least that is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ funny at times without even trying, this tries hard and fails miserably. Another thing I feel like is done on purpose is making Retro Sam an actual R-tard to make the new characters outshine/overlook him, feel better because they're "new". Broken Sam - What the ♥♥♥♥ are we actually doing ? Broken Sam ? Who the ♥♥♥♥ wants to play as a Fat Sam ? Do we forget why we love FPS games ? One ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ huge reason is the main character, we like the cool badass tall muscular hero that wields lots and huge weapons and kills anything that stands in his way. JUST LIKE WE DO IN HALO, DOOM, QUAKE, WOLFENSTEIN ETC. Why the hell would anyone care and want to play as a Fat Sam ? And lmao his name is Broken Sam so watch out guys, we got a depressed Sam (depressed people need to relate him now) Alien Sam - This one is the best looking one and although he's trying to sound like a highly intelligent creature from outer space he sounds like the biggest idiot. Cartoon Sam - Oh boy where do I even go with this.. by far the worst because instead of adding a Sam that's similar or just like Sam from Serious Sam 2, the DEFINITIVE Cartoonish Sam, they added a dumb ugly looking midget that sounds like an idiot. Orphan Sam - this is so stupid it's baffling - she is basically the multiplayer model of Serious Sammy (and she is called Serious Sammy, confirmed by the in game dialogue) and race swapped for no reason. Oh wait, it's woke trash so it MUST have a black character. Also she's called Orphan that's so funny like what, orphans need to relate to this - son I'm crying
Gameplay
I don't know how anyone from the team can look at every previous game and then at this and say with a straight face that this is what the current Serious Sam is holding up for us. The Roguelite aspect of the game is there to make the game less repetitive and be different with each run; level variations, different power ups, upgrades, weapons, abilities, trinkets etc etc and however, this game feels more repetitive than EVERY single game in this franchise. Yes, somehow this game that plays almost different each run, feels more REPETITIVE than every previous Sam game where the levels were exactly the same with the exact same enemy spawns that most of us got to learn after replaying the games so many times. If a game/franchise we all knew and loved, for YEARS it didn't need roguelite elements to help us play and replay the game over and over again, why do it now ? Why fix/change something that's not needed ? We had game modifiers, difficulties to choose from, custom maps, mods, a LOT of gamemodes and in all those decades it's what helped us keep these games alive and allowing us to replay them over and over again without ever thinking of needing something like this game.
Soundtrack
The music is absolutely uninteresting, there are only 2 good soundtracks and one is a remix of Dunes.
Dialogues
Absolutely cringe, terrible, woke, pathetic and stupid.
Thank you for making another terrible game in the franchise I unfortunately love the most, after more than 2 decades of Serious Sam and years of game development experience, in the grand 2020s we can't make a good game, almost as if it's Rocket Science.
