About
Sector Space is a cozy top-down single player space sandbox with retro graphics. The game takes place in a procedurally generated world with a seamless travel system. Each world represents a single galaxy in the void with hundreds of star systems and points of interest for the player to visit.
Characters pilot their own ship and depending on the chosen character class (profession) may have up to 6 fleet ships. As the character levels up they may select various secondary skills to further specialize and improve their ship. Skills are automatically passed onto your fleet ships but at a reduction proportional to their level. The primary means of upgrading and progressing is through selection of gear and ships of increasing tier level. The game contains hundreds of items which may have modifiers applied enhancing their function.
The character's ship and fleet can be moved between world files allowing you to generate different "galaxies" to explore. Most resources are renewable so typically you only need to play on one world. Some locations are unique and present in all generated galaxy although their position may change.
A world (galaxy) is divided up into a grid with each cell being a "sector". Characters can move from sector to sector continuously or take advantage of jump drives, jump gates, and wormholes to move larger distances. A sector can be an entire asteroid field, star system, nebula etc. There are combat areas and anomalous regions with more challenging enemies and better item drops. The character may be visited by NPC or ambushed in a random encounter while they move through dangerous regions of space. Make use of NPC stations and resources to progress, additionally characters may deploy their own stations and fortify the area with drones to protect against hostile invaders.
The typical game loop consists of levelling and acquiring gear through combat or gathering resources and crafting items which will also grant experience towards levelling up. Players can mine asteroids, refining the ore into pure elements and then craft components which are used in the construction of items and ships. Additional resources may be extracted from planets and colonies. Item's can vary in price by region and fluctuate over time which can make trading between stations a viable source of credits.

I like it but beware it requires a time sink of you doing the mining first and then asking the question of how do I do this more efficient so I can build my armada and the best way is through mining and planet-side industrialization and then into how do I move these resource faster. I wish the barrier to combat was lower but I understand what the developer is going for and I applaud it. The game is more focused on building a small industrial complex that can fight off the pirates for profit and more and better loot. Progression is tied to your level with every 10 levels unlocking a new tier of items. I haven't figured out the trade system and it could probably use a slight rework to streamline it. I would also highly recommend the devs add a loadout system for your ships so you can swap out modules on the fly which you can do in space no problem. I really like this game and want to see what else the devs can add

This is a fun game with great potential but it needs either more explanations or bugfixes because I'm often left wondering whether something is one or the other. It's clearly being actively developed so I'd recommend keeping this on your short list. It will probably turn into a great game.
cool little game with very satisfying progression. small bugs and QOL improvements id like to see but overall the exploration, progression, mechanics, pixel art and soundtrack all come together really well clocked over 50h and only got a little bit past the midgame, still planning how i want to upgrade my fleet to tackle the void $5 well spent
Good fun already, heaps of potential
I've been looking for a game to play this year... so far i've done 25 purchases since the beginning of the year, 22 games and three expansions... This is one of the if not the cheapest purchase i've done, and it has so far taken the lion's share of my attention... Not sure why this game is so cheap, but i hope more people find this gem... If you like games like Avorion, the X series, Stellaris, Eve online... this is a "top down" 2D game that will capture your attention... Hope more people find this and support this dev!
Game is terrible. Your ship gets destroyed before you finish reading the in game introduction screen
An excellent 2D space sandbox for just $5. My only complaint is that the UI isn't that great. It needs some work.
GREAT GAME....HUGE WORLD, NO SLEEP, USE BRAIN
