Secrets of Rætikon is one of the most visually striking games I've played — its geometric, origami-like art style and haunting ambient soundtrack create a genuinely magical atmosphere as you soar through an alpine wilderness. The flying controls take some getting used to but eventually click into a satisfying flow, and watching the wildlife interact organically around you makes the world feel alive in a way that's hard to describe. Unfortunately, the core gameplay loop devolves into a repetitive fetch quest where you haul shards back and forth to a central hub with no map, while enemy animals constantly swipe your hard-won items from your grasp, and the backtracking through the same screens grows genuinely exhausting. Worst of all, the ending undercuts everything the game seemed to be building toward — it's jarring, cruel in a way that feels unearned, and left me feeling tricked rather than moved. It's a gorgeous shell around a frustrating experience with a conclusion that poisons the whole journey retroactively, so despite the real beauty here, I can't recommend it.

The game took me around 3 hours to play while streaming for friends. The gameplay and art style are fantastic. The controls felt great on a PS$ controller (Switch pro controller did not work) on Windows 11. I would have preferred the runes translate themselves as you collect them. All in all, great game except one thing, the ending. I was left more confused than anything. It felt like the actions you make in the ending could have been very impactful. It was... odd. Below goes more into details with spoilers. [spoiler] Killing the creatures could have made more sense had the reason for the machine being given after to activated it. The dark ending could have worked had you not known its purpose only for it to be revealed later. Maybe collecting the souls of the forest for some thing and the machine was a tool for this? Also the Pong game. It made no sense whatsoever, a fade to black would have made more sense and left me way less confused. [spoiler] I would love to see something more from this game. Re-release with an added ending and some controller issues fixed. I'd give the gameplay an 8/10 and story/ending a 4/10.

controls are kinda obtuse. wasd being function keys instead of movement feels really odd. not a bad game from what I've seen so far, just very steep learning curve due to an entirely artificial limitation.

Hi, I got stuck with last shard as the openign to the owl cave didnt open, the machine is shining but not opening. Not a great playing experience overall.

I know I didn't give Secrets of Rætikon a 'proper' go, but I just found the mechanics and gameplay so uninteresting and forgettable. I played for a short-while, put it down, tried to come back to it a couple days later and completely forgot everything. The idea of restarting to refresh felt like a total slog I wasn't willing to do. After getting stuck in a wall, I decided Secrets of Rætikon is just not going to be for me...
