About

Promising the Sabotage touch in every system, Sea of Stars aims to modernize the classic RPG in terms of turn-based combat, storytelling, exploration and interactions with the environment, while still offering a hearty slice of nostalgia and good old, simple fun.

Pressing the action button in sync with the animations increases damage output while reducing incoming damage. Along with timed hits, combat features multi-character combo attacks, boosting, and a strategic "locks" system offering options to play with different damage types in order to hinder enemies while they are channeling powerful attacks or spells, all in an immersive take on the genre; no random encounters, no transitions to separate battlefields, and no grinding.

Swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges as you traverse seamlessly through the world with a navigation system based on platformer expertise that breaks free from the classic bound-to-the-grid tileset movement.

Our custom-made render pipeline allows the creation of a breathtaking world coming to life by pushing the limits of 2D pixel-art games.

Dozens of original characters and story arcs will take you on a captivating journey. Sometimes epic, sometimes silly, and other times emotional, Sea of Stars does its RPG duty of exploring classic themes of adventure and friendship, while also being chock-full of the unexpected twists and events you’d expect from a Sabotage production.

There are many ways to hang out in the world of Sea of Stars if you feel the need for a change of pace in your adventures. Sailing, cooking, fishing, stopping by a tavern to listen to a song or play the infamous tabletop game known as "Wheels".....every system has been designed to deliver an experience that pays respect to retro classics, while rethinking in some areas to offer a smooth and modernized experience.

Sea of Stars’ adventure is playable in its entirety by up to three players. Allies can drop in and out anytime to traverse the world together and master the Co-op Timed Hits combat mechanic. Also available via Steam Remote Play Together.

Some reviews will tell you the story sucks. Some will tell you the parry timing mechanics suck. Or that another aspect of this game sucks, but the rest (and ohhhh the art oohhhhhhh, it's so great ohhh) is good. It is actually much simpler. Only on a superficial level you find anything good about this game. The moment you THINK about anything happening in the game, you will notice how disgustingly bad it is. The most obvious point is the writing. The moment there is any interaction between the characters, you get filled up with 50% cringe and 50% disbelief. Why do the characters act the way they do? Why do the NPCs react the way they do? At every point I kind of understood where the writer tried to go, but through the amateurish execution it just put me off soooooo much. You could have removed 90% of the dialog and interactions and it would improve the game. But to me, the writing was not the worst offender. The combat is actually way worse. The main characters are some two chosen ones, and everyone says "WOW, they are WAYYYY better than the previous generation!". Yeah, really? Because I don't notice. Every other encounter, one person dies in combat. And I don't feel like I did any mistakes. The combat is build around you being group of weak little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Enemies constantly resist your attacks, and even if they don't, you usually do not deal enough damage to defeat them before their action. Why would you design the combat this way? More, your mana recources are extremly limited. This limits gameplay options, as you need mana-based special attacks to counter enemy special attacks. You will use your mana to heal your team alot, but then the enemies deal more damage because you don't counter them, so you heal again. But if you instead use your mana offensively, well, you do not deal enough damage, so you receive damage either way, but now your party members die and the combat gets longer. Either way you play it feels like you are loosing. It fundamentely is not fun to play. What is actually the gameplay here? Good games design: either my encounters test the players ability to manage resources, I give them some money, some mana, some abilites and there you go, reach the boss before you run out! Or I design it like a puzzle game, ressources are tight, but every encouner has a solution that costs your team (almost) nothing. Or, you make it a grindfest, where your struggle alot at the beginning, but as you progress through a dungeon, your numbers go up, trash encounter get easier, and that's how you eventually win. But this game decided to ... do neither of those. Your level ups are extremly powerful, but also extremly rare. Grinding feels bad in this game. The encounters are not designed in a way, that you can negate almost all damage enemies do. They always drain ressources. But at the same time, you do not really have any ressource management. I could write thousand more words about things that irk me in this game, like the suprise attack mechanic on the overworld, the "spellcasting without spellcasting" stuff that is never usefull, but I don't want to right now. I hate everything about the combat, and it felt actively bad to play. The last thing I want to comment on ist the music and the art. The tracks I heard in my short 5 horus of play time, were absolutely nothing special. The art .... yes the game looks good, but also extremely badly directed. There were so many thing moving and happening on the screen in any scene. I do not know what to focus on, everything on the screen is distracting. So no, I don't like the visuals in the game. The art IS goood, but due to the lack of direction I could not enjoy it. I will now start my 5th playthrough of Chrono Trigger, which this game is a homage to. There is jsut no comparision between this turd here, and an actuallly good game.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

really good game
I’m enjoying it thus far. Not my favorite turn based JRPG but not my least favorite either as it doesn’t really do anything different but it doesn’t really do anything poorly either. I wouldn’t go out of my way to play it as a newcomer but if you want a mostly decent turn based game then consider checking it out if you have nothing else that strikes you fancy on your backlog.
This game reminded me why I loved turn based combat, but also gives it a modern spin. The fact that you can power up your attacks, and also cut the damage received with the quick time events was a great idea. Also, puzzles where on the easy side but still very fun. For the price this is an absolute steal and the devs have also given a bunch of updates for free, and extra content. Highly recommended that you try this game if you like FF6 and Chrono Triger.
Juegazo
This game is very much a mixed bag. It looks great, the music is good and the battle system is okay, but the story is not great, the characters are not developed and the battle difficulty is all over the place. Also, the action commands are not very intuitive, especially when it comes to blocking certain attacks. Also, the Wheels minigame is awful.
A very pretty pixel art JRPG. Seriously, this game looks gorgeous. Gameplay-wise, it's pretty classic turn based combat with a few twists that mostly serve to spice it up - some quick time "perfect parry/hit" stuff. Movement in the maps is also a bit diversified with the ability to climb, move along ridges and jump gaps. None of which really changes the functionality much, but it keeps the interactions with the environment a bit more fresh. The story isn't hugely memorable but I have to say it did get more emotional and gripping later on. The dialogue is very basic stuff. The fights can be challenging, the game has overall few encounters but hard, even those with ordinary mooks. The bosses can require a bit of strategy but nothing major. Ultimately, it's a fun game if you like classic JRPGs. It probably won't blow your mind but it's still a good time.
This isn't a bad game per se, but boy oh boy is it oversold. - The things that are sold as being "like Chrono Trigger" either aren't, or are severely lacking in depth. Walkabout is a bit like CT, albeit slower. Multi-PC abilities do exist, though not very many of them. There are some area-based targeting abilities, though as far as I can tell the options are just one size of "circular AoE." The variety, the storytelling, and just the joy of CT are not present at all. - Writing is good. Characters are decent (although the central two are bland). Story is acceptable but unexciting. Storytelling isn't great, the game relies a lot of "lets cut and see what the villains are up to now while they narrate their plans for the player." Some theming choices are weird -- for example, there's a huge amount of overly goofy pirate dialogue. - Graphics and sound are solid, but nothing to write home about. - Combat is OK at first, and has some novelties, but loses steam and becomes repetitive. - Wildly linear / No exploration. Like not just a linear sequence of events or locations, but every area is a fixed sequence of linear hallways, platforms, whatever. There's almost no meaningful exploration whatsoever. - The puzzles are also basically all "do these exact things in this exact order." They are very intuitive, but you're basically just guided along on a string by wherever the hallway/narrow cliff/etc leads you. - Map design involves an absurd amount of tightrope walking and crawling along the side of a cliff for no reason whatsoever. It IS cool the first time but it then shows up 10 times in every area. Both confusing and annoying. - You do want to look for chests in out of the way spots, but after the first hour or two, they basically all contain the same collectable each time, which does nothing until very late in the game. There are a lot of things like this, where the reward is a let-down. - Equipment progression is both sparse and boring, with trivial upgrades or no choices when you do get the chance to do it. - Weird bugs with the play controls. Default keybinds aren't great, and some of them don't get remapped even when you change them in settings. You may have to reset your keybinds to dock the ship; etc. This could be worse, it's just irritating. Walking is slower than it needs to be. In conclusion, if you have a Chrono Trigger itch, go play Cosmic Star Heroine instead. Or Chained Echoes, even. And if you don't... well, there's a lot of RPGs out there, and this one's really in the middle of the pile.
The base game is fun. The story is pretty standard high magic fantasy. The two "Main" characters have just enough personality to not be silent protagonists, but don't really add anything to the story. Their mission is the driving force, but it doesn't really feel like it truly matters to them. The writing leans very heavily on the rest of the colorful cast to do the emotional heavy lifting. The gameplay is a mix of turn-based combat and timed button presses to make the most of your skills. The environments are nice, but nothing to write home about. All in all, I'd give the base game a solid 7.5 out of 10. The base game could use a little more polish, but it's still fun. Now to the thing that nearly everyone and their brother didn't like: the DLC. Long story short: not a fan. I got about 25ish minutes into it, and wasn't having any fun. So, I stopped and never went back. I'd recommend the base game and I'd tell most people to skip the DLC.
