Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

wow
Very janky from the start. Got it on discount and wanted to try a spooky narrative game. It's extremely poorly designed UI. The UI is nearly impossible to navigate. The color choices and graphical design for what is supposed to be highlighted makes it so hard to see what's happening. I tried the accessibility options, and even that menu was awful. At the "character type" selection screen, it wouldn't go down to Select unless I was in the center of the screen. I couldn't even start playing the game because of such bad UI design. Awful. Uninstalled.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The writing of this game was done beautifully. I really like how important each decision you make is, and how even something you did that seems so trivial can come back and hit you multiple chapters down the road. I've been playing this game so much since I got it, and only have amazing things to say about it. I really want to see all of the possibilities, and I can't wait for the final chapters!!
Great story, accurate reponses from the character to your actions, and many branching paths
The first game that truly feels like there are so many unique paths and permutations in a single playthrough, with the most variables I have ever seen in a choices based narrative. BG3, DA:O and Our Life have nothing on Scarlet Hollow and it is insane. Usually those types of games have a lot of flavors but ultimately boils the variables down to 1 after a major plot point so they are fewer and fewer the further you go. This is not the case here, this is truly an insanely ambitious visual novel. Solid presentation and very good writing, likeable and multifaceted cast. Any nitpicks I may have is frankly cancelled by how insane this game is to exist in the first place. I think anyone into visual novels should play it, I think anyone into roleplaying games should play it. It truly is an experience on its own with how much you can do and how many sides there are. And do *at least* 2 playthroughs. I went into this thinking I would only do a single one, then wanted to do all my chocies opposite, only to discover this insane amount of variables that I don't think I can possibly achieve for a long time, and that is coming from someone who did Dragon Age Origins 10k hours of every single outcome of every single origin. I was surprised at how good every single character is, no matter if I liked them personally or not, they are consistent in their personal values and behaviors, making them believable people, this is the sign of great writing. Like to be super honest, I expect this type of game to be super white in tone as in, despite being presented the virtual choice to not be white or a certain gender, the writing itself is very biased. However, the way the game is presented, even if I was quite cynical, proved me wrong, and I felt a close kinship towards Avery and Kaneeka whom really felt fully fleshed out in flaws and qualities. Like Slay the Princess, the horror story itself, for those into horror, does not necessarily create new type of plots, but instead present them to you in a skillfully, meticulously crafted immersive manner. There is a part of me that would adore seeing this game at least partly voiced (like noises for characters speaking up or even more ambitiously fully voiced), but the sheer amount of paths feels like this would be an insane endeavor, on par with Disco Elysium, which despite its incredible amount of dialogue does not have as many paths that keep multiplying.
You get to stare at Abby Howard's awesome art for hours, while enjoying the best writing of all time!
There has never been a game where your choices matter as much as this. Currently, I have just finished my third one, and with research and my knowledge from the other two runs, I had a direct route planned from start to finish, creating the "perfect" run. But what ended up happening was I got my WORST run, many characters died, I failed to collect vital information, and a choice I was ready to make still failed simply because I got too close to another character, leading to death. The best part of it all? I still had fun, every single scene felt new just because of how much variety there was, I even met a character in my latest run that I didn't even know existed! To put it simply, Scarlet Hollow drags you into the town, and now it is your heart, every action you take no matter the size will either strengthen or weaken it, there is no right answer to your choices, and that makes it the perfect game to experience. 10/10
A game that sucks you in and gives you consequences of your actions! Very lovely very terrifying at times especially once I realize I have tendencies to pick the most... "interesting" and questionable companions to hangout with... wasn't the original goal but welp... and finding trouble is incredibly fun!
This game is soooooo good. Easily my favorite VN I've ever played. Great characters, great mystery. I absolutely love Tabitha and the progression of the story around the Scarlet family, and how much influence your choices have over the plot. It isn't all that scary, but enough to give some thrill. 10/10
