Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

Alright so first of all, I have been playing this game for about four? days straight? I played Slay the Princess first which is an amazing game don't get me wrong but Scarlet Hollow? Scarlet Hollow has me ENJOYING replaying. I have played this game going on 5 times now, 5!!! I am legitameltlly finding knew ♥♥♥♥ to explore and new things I want to try next time!!! And don't get me started on the story! I legitametlly am trying to play the same route with two builds slightly off because I want to try to get my cousin to like me. The Story is FANOMINALL and I've fallen more and more in love with this town and characters. Sadly I CANT save everyone which is just!! HORRIBLE AWEFULL IT HAS STAKES AND IM ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CRYING OVER WHICH TRAITS I PICK BC OTHERWISE I CANT SAVE PEOPLE :< Also 10/10 bc I litterlly was curious if I could just? play the game and only pick silence or if I had to speak trait only and I actually made it through the whole game?! and it feel like I was actually a person?!?! Frankly if you like Slay the princess, Scarlet Hollow is a little to the right but cranking up the meta layers by 100 and the investment by a thousand. Also? Pretty sure this is the only game I've EVER written a review on so take that as you will

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is such a great game with such an unique multi-faceted perspective on how the MC interacts with the various characters and world-building. I really enjoyed reading their blog post on how they approached the game's core trait-based role playing system as well as what they set out to achieve. Please translate this to other languages so more people can enjoy such a fantastic work. Looking forward to the end of early access.

The minds behind "Slay the Princess" do not miss. Scarlet Hollow is extremely good, extremely impact visual novel from start to (incomplete) finish. I currently have 4 different concurrent playthroughs going on in this game, there is that much to just see and do!
Loved it, as someone who doesn't love visual novels!
Scarlet Hollow is by far one of the best visual novels out there. The branching story is incredibly well made, you can clearly see the results of your actions. I also really appreciate how the characters perceive the player based on the traits and the dialogue options you choose (particularly Tabitha). From the soundtrack to the art, this game sets a really high bar when it comes to story driven game.
would like it more if it has a map and object interaction system not just AVG some UI UX design are not much polished despite all that minor flaws, the story which I just finished first round chapter 2 is truly fascinating might leave more comments when I have time to finish the whole game and if possible please consider adding a formal Chinese version
yes.
I'm somehow 23.4 hours into a, what, 8 hour game? And an unfinished one at that? And I'm 7 concurrent playthroughs in? As someone who has never been super into visual-novel style games, choice-heavy or not, it's really strange to find myself so addicted. Both the writing and the amount of unique art are really impressive, and most of all, the amount of variance in how things can play out is completely nuts. Not to oversell that aspect, each episode still has to start and end at mostly the same place; I've just never seen a story be able to shift so incredibly much within those boundaries - and have surprisingly small choices come back to haunt you in surprising ways much later on. Replaying the game is also very breezy and quick thanks to the well-functioning fast forward, so seeing all the choices you didn't make and dialogue you didn't see is really painless. Other than the fact that the amount of things you didn't see is so massive that it'll still take a while. This game is still in Early Access though, with two more episodes to come Sometime in the future. I really, really hope it sticks the landing, because this will be an unbelievably easy recommend to anyone who isn't incredibly against the concept of reading.
