Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

highly recommend anyone who enjoyed Slay the Princess or fans of games like Disco Elysium (so many DE references in this game :D) give the free demo a shot. there is so much content here, the replay value is insane and the game isn't even fully released yet!! great art and writing, strong atmosphere (Episode 3 is creepy as ♥♥♥♥), vastly branching storylines + I love the traits system. I wish steam had a "choices seriously actually do matter for real" tag because there are so, so many different outcomes to explore based on all your compounding past choices. such an underrated gem imo. I can't wait for the final episodes (or really any other Black Tabby Games project for that matter) to release. Abby and Tony, you continue to fascinate and inspire. 9/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

5/5 just for my boi Dustin, my only hopes if for one day to get merch of Dustin.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrifying, especially the way every choice is between bad and worse. It will stay with me for a long time, and I will be playing it again. It has an ingenious new type of game design - this is a game where your choices actually matter and impact future events. The characters feel real, and the art is amazing as well. I might be biased because i've been a fan of Abby Howard's work for years, but I think a lot of horror fans would enjoy this game.
An true choices matter game! I played so many VN and read probabl around 2k books in my life so far, so I am a bit biased with writing and story, but let me tell you, if you are into mystery with an good amount of horror, get this game asap - many animations, handdrawn with a lot of effort - many choices to define your mc - great, deep world building - amazing NPC, which you can romance if you want
thank you developer for giving me monster lover 1 and 2 archivment
xD - choices rly matter, whatever you do, think about the consequences - wonderful backgrounds with everything it feels alive and complete atmospheric - sound and music top notch for atmosphere (for me important) - top tier writing I love this game, I have so much fun, its addicting and holy, I love Reese and Wayne, hopefully there i sthe posibility to have a good end with them haha 10/10
good story
Good
Fantastic VN with good comedy and a narrative that pulls you in as soon as the first major event happens. Everything leading up to it is still nice, don't get me wrong, but once It happens you'll get immediately sucked in. Having your protagonist be identified with 2 traits really helps with both replayability and enhancing the story. You can be a strong cousin that talks to animals, a mystical weirdo with keen senses for how people feel, a hot cousin that's surprisingly booksmart, or a street-wise cousin in combination with any of the above (along with mix/matching all the others as well). Once you replay it enough times you'll sort of get a feel for what "really" matters, but it's surprising how every interaction you have will color your future interactions with characters. I'm not surprised at how high the wordcounts posted by the devs are, it's a truly staggering amount of work to account for so much variation. I'm eagerly waiting for the next episode to arrive and have recommended it as much as I can to my friends.

games very depressing but a great and well written story so far. all the characters are loveable in some way (except a few). i got to the end of ep 5 recently and ive still been thinking about it for about a day. this is coming from a person who loved slay the princess so take it with a grain of salt.
