Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.43/day in the week to Sep 14 → 11/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,419 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

s&box as a developer tool sets high expectations, and disappoints. it's an experience hardly different than developing for unity or godot, rather than "gmod but for serious gamedev" that it seems to set itself up to. unless you have a team of developers behind you, you will need to use multiple addons in order to get even a base of a game going, which means conflicting systems and messy code you will have to fight to use. facepunch's own addons suffer from this use. level-making is as complicated as it is in other engines, and overall the documentation is spotty and at times highly outdated. the game, and the editor, are getting constant updates, so perhaps, hopefully, the experience will be better in the future, but right now you're better off with godot

I was very excited for S&box's arrival. However, things aren't looking so well for S&box. First of all, the massive amount of AI slop content and crappy games that there are in S&box. It was very disappointing to see the lack of creative games and content that I had hope for. Considering the AI slop takeover, its basically impossible for any developers or casual players to be engaged in the platform. As of this review, the game has very little player base to begin with. Likewise the majority of servers are empty. The games are extremely simple and basic. These games would take someone to make in just an hour. Most players would just quit immediately within a few minutes as it gets boring very quick. So far, there hasn't been a good game yet. But it is unlikely for a developer to spend their time making quality games in a platform like this, because of the lack of player base. Furthermore there isn't much resources to aid new developers to make games. On top of that, the documentation does very little to help. Optimization is terrible. Yes, Facepunch did improve the performance a little bit by adding FSR and other tweaks. But its still not enough. The majority of Steam users have 4 core CPUs and low end 30XX series graphics cards. Plus its unjustifiable for people to upgrade their hardware as computer parts are overpriced. (Thanks a lot AI.) Another downside is the need for internet connection. Like I said, most of the games are dead. It would make more sense to play the games offline just like how you can still play TTT or Murderer in Garry's mod in single player offline when you have no internet, or when no one is around. As far as I know there isn't anyway you can join/host via LAN either. Most people say that this is more of a Roblox clone than an actual Gmod successor and I agree. However I do not think it needs to be a Gmod successor. Honestly its not a bad thing if this were more like Roblox. But if it is going to be Roblox, at least be a better version of Roblox. For now the only thing that shines for S&box is its editor. Being a game engine, it is open source and would have more sucess for making it easier to make Source 2 games.
Okay, look, my review of s&box may be positive and I enjoy it, but make no mistake... in its current state it's nowhere near ready for primetime. Garry called S&box a Gmod spiritual successor during an interview and previously mentioned it on the store page of s&box as well. Many people then assumed that meant S&box would be Gmod 2 or some form of Gmod replacement, and while that Gmod 2 does exist within S&box (albeit in a rougher state more akin to Gmod 9) it is not the main point of the project and there's over 6 years worth of videos, news posts, and other documentation that's been available for over 6 years that explains that. I believe when Garry said "spiritual successor to Gmod" he meant in terms of the creativity the community would have with the game and the modding capabilities and that he wanted to greatly expand upon that so players could do more. As such, S&box is moreso meant to be a game engine and devkit where people can make their own games and then export them into separate executables and then sell them on Steam. If you are not a developer and are simply a player, you can then browse games and demos of games people have made with the engine in a Roblox-esque menu. Now, we can all agree that is a very ambitious thing and it would probably actually be amazing if Garry finally manages to smooth out the rough edges. Garry states he wants S&box to be a free alternative to Unity and Unreal where you don't even have to pay continuous fees to Valve or Facepunch or anything, and that is an indie dev's dream and can lead to equally great things for players too. But as the mixed rating, negative reviews, and even my own foreword will tell you, this is not quite as simple as it sounds... S&box has a lot of issues right now. Many of them are relatively standard growing pains, and while I believe Garry is passionate and dedicated to his vision and will fix these with time, they are very glaring issues now and have been since the pre-release builds as far back as 2021. On the dev side, the tools aren't quite up to snuff to what people want and even when they are, I hear the documentation leaves a lot to be desired too. On the player side, it's a lot like dumpster diving through random indie and early access games on Steam itself and trying to find hidden gems, which is something most people do not have the patience to do. I do have the patience to do this kind of dumpster diving and do it all the time when I look for new games to play, and my methods translate very well to browsing for good games on S&box if you can believe it, so I still have a decent success rate, hence why my review is positive in spite of the clearly flawed state of S&box. The performance is also very hit or miss on a good day and S&box is in desperate need of some optimization passes. Also, you may have noticed I mentioned this engine being free. You can get it on github and it's open source, but on Steam, S&box costs $20. Garry has continuously stated that he plans to make S&box free in 2 years time and the $20 tag is there to primarily build the play fund which will go to the people actually building good games on S&box. The microtansactions people complain about are also supposed to fund this Playfund as well. I believe Garry is being honest about this, but handled it poorly. In the current state S&box is in, it should absolutely be marked as Early Access and I have exactly 0 freaking clue why it isn't. Also, the presence of this PlayFund unfortunately leads to pump-and-dumpers building low effort content and AI content that many people complain about because they're trying to grab a piece of that giant pie. I don't think S&box is overtly terrible (I've also played much worse), I see the vision of where Garry wants to take it, and I want to see that vision come true as he has described it. I'm not gonna pretend it's that great thing yet, but I can recommend it, but you should go in understanding everything I have outlined in this review before you think about buying it. If this doesn't sound great to you, come back and check again later to see if it's improved.
This game is not too good, I was expecting it to be more like gmod and not more like roblox. I'm disappointed until there's more workshop addons.
"please play this game, we have made it so you can get drops, oh you wonder how you were getting drops, we need you to play 7 separate days in a row for 30 minute increments, please my family is going hungry and we need people to play this slop sequel..." edit: "we made an arcade racer in two weeks to show how easy it is, ha ha! look, please... we need to not actually lose money on the development for this one guys, we have to keep developing rust!"
I really didn't believe the critics and wanted to give it a try. Maybe the game will be fun eventually but even considering it's only been a month the lack of content is surprising. There really should be more than three or four decent games by now. I know it's early but I really didn't see the game being this sparse by now. Most categories don't have a single game and as others have said most of what is there is brain rot. Character customization is terrible. wtf is the workshop? I can see player created items and how they would look on my character if I was allowed to equip them but can't? It makes no sense they're already in the game. Also I have no idea why the game would even show me items I don't own when equipping items to my character. It's all so confusing because I was so hyped loading in just to find that one of the most fun aspects of this kind of game is implemented so poorly to a bizarre degree. Maybe wait for the game to mature a but but based on how little of a playerbase there is this soon after launch, and how little there is to do I don't really see the game recovering. I would love to be proven wrong I love the concept but I don't know if I see that happening.
game sucks
