There is nothing special here. This doesn't bring anything new to the genre, nor does it do the old thing exceptionally well or with great character. I cleared the first stage on my first go without issue, and almost gave up because the boss fight was just boring. It's a slow moving hit point sponge with one super telegraphed, easy to avoid move. This is made worse by the fact that half way through the fight it glitched at spent a while untouchable. For my efforts, I got half the total achievements in the game. In one 20 minute run. If you're really itching for another Bullet Heaven and want something free to play, this might be worth your time, but even then? I'd rather continue my slow quest to clear every map with every hero in VS.

This is the most stupid bulletheaven ever. You: main weapon fires straight ahead and can't be aimed. Secondary damage is about 150 at level 30. End boss: 150000 hp, can't damage you and has no adds. Evenetually boss starts flying and you can't damage him. Chip away at end boss for an hour or so ot quit the game. Easy choice. Quit. Cheap it might be in price. Still too expensive for what it is.
In a vacuum, I'd say: try this game, absolutely. It's free with no microtransactions or hidden costs whatsoever, it's generally fairly competent of a bullet heaven, and with 5 stages and a decent selection of weapons it's definitely got a lot of games in the genre beat, considering there's literally hundreds of them by now of very, very varying quality. But to be frank, Rune Break doesn't really do anything new. Generic graphics, with some art that I have the distinct feeling of being AI-generated. A gameplay that seems content with just offering the usual selection of weapons against hordes of identical-behaving enemies, with no power-ups or anything so spice up each run. Levels then culminate in a boss fight that is currently pretty broken, as due to some faulty hit detection on trees and other obstacles said boss starts flying off the visible airspace and below ground, only offering limited moments of viable attacks. The permanent upgrade progression is fine, but since all enemies behave the same way, the power fantasy isn't materializing all that much, and if you aren't leveled enough the stage becomes filled with hundreds of enemies that you just have to run away from, waiting for the timer to reach the boss instead of fighting. That's a balancing issue that many such titles fall victim too, but I'm confident it's one of the many things that can and will be solved in upcoming patches. The game is decent, but even among the free-to-play titles bullet heaven titles there's more unique and exciting ones to try, so unless you're a lunatic fan of this genre like me who needs to try everything, you can probably skip this one. It's not bad, but "not bad" doesn't quite cut it anymore when the competition is this fierce. Bullet Heaven Fandom review #59.
-Pretty bugged -Achievements tied to meta progress and multiple are bugged -Unbalanced (some spells are must take while others are completely useless) Hopefully the dev continues because the base is solid, just needs a lot of fixing and balancing.
a free to play version of vampire survivors, not bad at all :)
