Rogue Legacy 2 is what you'd get if you mashed Rogue Legacy and a sequel together. Every time you die, your children will succeed you, and each child is unique. Your daughter might be a Colourblind Archer, and your son could be a Pacifistic Chef. Either way, one of them is getting conscripted.

Love this game. It does a few things really well that I like: a) It respects your time. Every roguelike game today wants to be hades which means adding a bunch of stupid grind that you have to do to unlock content. In this game, new content is locked behind NG+ (new bosses, new biomes), and if you're good enough to clear the game at your skill level, the next NG+ gets you so much money that you can easily make up for dozens of runs from the previous difficulty so you can get your skill tree leveled. b) Movement is king in this game. Tons of movement tech, and you have to make use of all of it for boss fights and for traversing the zones, and each weapon in the game is designed around manipulating movement tech somehow. Some weapons ecourage dash-attacks by giving you crits. Some weapons require you to bounce around on enemies and objects through the air to do damage. Some weapons have you moving around at high speeds, some require you to stay perfectly still at the right moment to do the most damage. Think they put a lot of thought into them and they all add their own kind of spice to the game. c) The progression of the game feels just right. Every time you need to tackle a new boss or you unlock a new challenge, it usually feels like they amped up the difficulty just enough to keep it interesting. I think someone could get bored trying to see all of the new content as it requires you to beat the game 8 times to see it all, though I will say once you've beaten it one time I think beating it again goes pretty fast and you unlock a lot of tools along your way to help you out. Usually the gate in each NG+ is the new boss they give you which increases the difficulty of that boss by quite a lot.

Wonderful mixture of roguelike and platformer, easy to understand, but hard to master. sadly devs didn't make workshop for the game or mod support(maybe in far far future they'll come back?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 15 classes, 15 alt weapons, 5 biomes, many bosses(too lazy to count),challenges in between, secrets, gold farming. if you like venturing dungeons over and over for riches and upgrading castle, then this game is for you, each playthrough(weave) gets harder and gives more challenge to the player. if you liked first one, then second game is good too, if you hate hard platformers(even though you can do -% of damage taken or enemy hp) then think a little bit if you would like to buy it.
This game is cute and has some unique mechanics, but it's hampered by the absolute SLOG that is the progression. I understand that you're supposed to go through lots of characters, but on a lot of runs it feels like nothing gets done and that my time and currency were wasted. If the gameplay were better, this might be OK, but it's really just super basic metroidvania combat (jump, attack, airdash, pogo) and doesn't feel as smooth as something like Silksong or even OG Hollow Knight. I quickly stopped playing after I realized that the combat wasn't going to get much deeper. The Legacy system is a neat idea, but I was expecting something like Mewgenics that allowed you to nudge your characters into a niche or something, but nope! No alternate starting weapons, starting skills, or ways to increase the amount of variety. You just get 3 choices that give you slightly more gold when they have certain traits. Speaking of which, the balance is weird. Some of the traits are essentially nothingburgers, but some are completely crippling (Diva on the Ranger class, for example) and give you the same amount of bonus gold as the less impactful effects. IDK. I definitely feel like I wasted my money with this one but others might find the gameplay good enough to keep grinding.

This is Cellar Door's masterpiece. It takes everything that made Rogue Legacy fun and improves upon it in huge ways. The basic loop is the same, but there is so, so much variety here. I have never encountered another game that has so many classes to choose from, makes them all fun to play, and incentivizes the player to try them all out rather than specializing. There are so many upgrades that after taking ~30 hours to "beat" the game I feel like I barely scratched the surface. The whole thing has an incredible degree of polish, from the cartoony art style, to the animations, to the controls, all the way down to the sound effects. It doesn't hit the same narrative heights that Hades was able to, but that is faint criticism. This is an absolute standout of the genre and a must-play.
Fun platformer with crazy variety.
clunky controls
I loved the first game and this one is an improvement in almost every way. Classes are more interesting, more content in the castle, more story as well. Very well done, and one of my favorite games of all time.
