Jaw dropping and epic in scale, beautiful dynamic soundtrack that changes from epic combat music to relaxing music for just floating in space, fun combat and tons to explore. Don't let the low res graphics put you off, Rodina is absolutely worth every penny!
one of the best games ive had the pleasure of playing for many years. just started it again as im getting into drawing space stuff and this is perfection
someday, somebody will make a space game that feels as good to fly your ship in and that feels as honestly expansive as rodina. surely. it hasn't happened yet, though.

I first discovered this game around 2015 after NerdCubed did his video on it, and I've never really put it down since. It was the first game installed on my new gaming laptop, and because it takes up so little disc space I keep it installed all the time so I can boot it up whenever. Rodina is my favourite space game, and one of my favourite games ever. Despite it's tiny disc size, and small scope compared to most other space games (one solar system vs a whole galaxy like No Man's Sky), Rodina feels the biggest. You land on a planet at what looks like a reasonably close to to your location, and realise you've got a much longer walk ahead of you than you realised. The player character doesn't move slowly either! I think Rodina feels so much bigger because it excels at making you feel small. The planets are planet sized, and they orbit the star in real time. You can land and watch the sun set, then take off and fly around the world to watch it rise. Asteroids spin much faster and so you can see the night sky constantly rotating around you. I love leaving my ship flying away from a planet, walking into my observation bay (I always build one) and watching the planet get smaller and smaller until it's just another dot in the sky. There's no multiplayer, there are no NPCs aside from the Xenos who shoot on sight. It's just you, in your ship, and some people you won't meet for a very long time emailing you. But even that stops eventually. This game is unique in the space genre because it really focuses on themes of loneliness. It reminds me a little of The Martian, the feeling of being stuck on your own so far away from home. I know the plan is to add NPCs eventually, and I'm excited for that, but I *love* those moments where you're drifting in space and it's just you and the soundtrack, which is phenomenal btw. It captures the vibe of the game perfectly, it's mysterious and melancholic but there are notes that hint towards a more optimistic and adventurous side as well. Combat is really fun, I think the dev was inspired by older shooters. FPS combat feels a bit like the original Doom (your character's speed coming into play again) and it can be pretty challenging too. Space / low orbit combat is my favourite personally, I love the various secondary weapons you can pick up but the default rapid scattershot laser is brilliant. The green, misty trail the Xeno ships leave behind them is very War of the Worlds, and has lead to some genuinely tense moments on the surface of a planet. When that red dot gets close enough that you can see the vapour trail, you're in trouble. The last thing I want to touch on is the writing and world building. Despite never meeting another person face-to-face there are plenty of communications between characters and also pieces of literature from the game world that you can find scattered around the system. These are all genuinely brilliant. Each one gives insight into the culture that the player character is from, hints about your origin, stories you can piece together that will make you smile and break your heart. The fact it's all done by one person makes it all the more amazing. I would 100% recommend this game in 2026. It hasn't been updated in a long while but I don't believe it's abandoned, and if it is I would still 100% recommend it. Everything that made me fall in love with this game is there (I haven't even touched on the ship customisation) and while I'd love the story to continue, where it leaves off currently is a satisfying ending in my mind.
Да игра супер сырая, но ее можно легко модифицировать самому если иметь простые знания о коде, и это дает мне почву для Геймплея
An an absolute peak immersive, open world, minimalist, exploration, survival. Delicious ambient background soundtrack, wide open skies, depth and poise. A novel of game, deep and rich.
Please make VR mod
that's that kind of game that would be very cool to watch on a devlog youtube channel but terrible absolutely terrible to wait for feature creep updates over months/years still cool to play for a while from time to time, tho
