I feel like this could have worked but it just doesnt seems to mesh well as a space shoot em up and rhythm game. Its not bad but it takes some getting used to.
I do not regret forgetting about this game for years.
I got this game, probably in a bundle, several years ago, and never played it... until I did. Duh. Anyway, it's a good concept with poor execution. The enemies are only hittable when button cues show up, so there's little wiggle room in each level. That said, the button cues move very slowly and distract from the moving of your ship. I died less because of missed notes and more because I ran into a wall due to the vertical scrolling mechanics. I've never been a fan of forced scrolling environments except when it made some sense, like when you're running away from something. In this game, you're just a ship cruising through space with little reason to do so. The lack of a decent reason why I'm continuously moving forward in a single direction makes me lose interest in continuing forward. A semi-decent supply of music included with the game, though the music does not fit the atmosphere of space, and I found it obnoxious. You don't get custom soundtrack support, so don't expect to be cruising through space to the tune of Lonely Island's "Space Olympics". Make note of the visuals. They are terrible. The collision also makes no sense. Your ship's wings do not collide with anything. You can squeeze through very tight spots even though the ship is a fat piece of junk. I also found that the level design is notably linear. Yes, it makes sense for a music-oriented game to have linear levels, but this game makes it kind of painful to sit through. You just don't care after the first few minutes. Controls are also very frustrating, though I only played with keyboard. It seems both sluggish and inconsistent. I found that I could mash the arrow keys and get the same points I did when I was playing seriously and hitting keys to the beat of the song. That ruined any aspect of challenge this game may have had for me. Once I found this out, I stopped playing. I cannot recommend this game at any price. Hell, I wouldn't recommend it if it was free.
